A truly beautiful and breathtaking collection. I love the lighting too. If only the walls were black I'd think I stepped back in time to the arcade I used to frequent when I was 10 years old.
Reminds me of "Time Out" at the old Roosevelt Field mall in New York where I spent tons of quarters on things like Bezerk, Star Wars and Dig Dug to name a few.
@TheOmi3333 - If you though Galaxian was in the room then my sound system is working great to give the Illusion. Galaxian is just a recording. My game room has two sound systems with recorded sounds from the actual games. I recorded sounds from a few hundred games. One sound system is for video games sounds and the other system for pinball. I wanted to re-create the sounds of a busy arcade from back in the day. So when you walk in my game room it sounds like an arcade.
@727PENGO yea nice retro atmosphere you created there for sure really nice memories such a shame the classic arcade died out, as a child on family holidays i was the weird 1 in dark and dingy arcades as the rest of the family was on the beach in the sunshine lol. Hope 1 day i can create a similar room :D
@stwicks77 - The game room has two sound systems to give the illusion that you walked into an real arcade. I recorded sounds from over a few hundred pinball and video games.
@NemeanLion -The game room is not in a basement. I had my own business to restore games for over 10 years. I have no more interest since it's hard to make a living in this business and I do not believe in these crazy high prices that people pay and sell today.
In 1980 I was 11 years old. I started before then. I lived in the arcades till I around 1994 when most around here were gone or going away. The 80's were the best arcade days. I remember most of them.
I could practically h4ear the jukebox playing Night Ranger songs and smell the pizza and nachos served at the snack bar! Great job, a real walk down memory lane!
Amazing, good for you! On average, how much did each arcade unit cost at auction, for example working ones vs non working ones? I've always wanted a collection like that, maybe it's time to start before it's too late!
Great collection! I was looking to see if you had a game I remember from when I was kid. I think it was the arcade version of Pit Fall. It had much better graphics than the Atari version of gators trying to swallow a Indiana Jones type character swinging on the vine. I haven't seen that arcade game since. :(

Well after hours of searching and no luck hope you can help me out with a game i use to play as a kid,can not think of it's name for the life of me....You started of with one small fighting ship, then had to dock on to a bigger ship that gave you 3 guns then after another level you landed on a bigger ship giving you 5 guns to fire.if you completed all the levels it went back to the beginning..would be thankful of any help with the name..Thanks.

Fantastic!!! I don't collect machines but spent many, MANY hours in those arcades growing up, in the awesome 80's, your collection and video is just so awesome, I loved watching it..
I am 35 years old, and I remember the games like yesterday, love the spy-hunter!!!
Would love to see a crystal castle that game with the ball and bear on the cubes, but would really love to see a BOMBJACK, that was another great 1, your collection looks amazing!, thanks so much for sharing....
Wow, just wow, I have watched this so many times and it hurts that I am not there; All the sounds of the true classics make me feel young again. I can only hope to ever acheive such a collection. 10 ouy of 10 for sure.
Very nice collection, tons of classic machines! I'm planning on opening a small arcade and cafe in my town in a few years (buying all the equipment now) but this goes waaay beyond anything I can do.
@ClassicGamer88 As long as he's paying the bills I don't think she's going to give him much grief. Or maybe she's into old games just as much. How awesome would that be.
This is the most impressive arcade collection I have seen in a long time. Being an old arcade business owner I must say "don't change a thing". Its nice to see a lot of these classics are safe. I have 15 cabs, pinball, jukebox, and dartboard myself and while I get a ton of compliments when people stop by, I got nothing on your setup. Be proud of what you have there. I envy few people, but you made my list. ;)

I would trade some of those out for Tail Gunner, Tutankham and a western quick draw game that I have not seen in 30 years. It was a movie screen you stood in front of and when the actor had a gleam in his eye you both drew and fired. Can you find these games? I've looked and never seen them :( Are you near Chicago or in the U.S.?

When you go into that last room I saw the space ace and dragon's lair posters and I thought I bet he wont have those but apparently I was wrong. Awesome!
Awesome arcade room you owned at home. It feels like you're in a hotel by finding the arcade room closer to the indoor swimming pool. Like and favorite it! (^_^)b
I wonder how much in total everything was. This is a magnificent arcade room and this is a dream of mine i want to attain in the foreseable future. Does it cost a ton to be running all the machines all at once?
You've got a great collection there--some of my favorites. I loved Sea Wolf, Tron, Robotron, Spy Hunter. Watching your video was like watching that episode "Kick the Can" in the original Twilight Zone. Holy Crap! I want to come over and play Dragon's Lair. Awesome job!!
great set up, i just started collecting arcade games recently. Junk yard pinball, street fighter 3 and Marvel super heroes is what i have im always looking for more but as always cost can be an issue. did it cost much to rebuild the machines???
PENGO dude: Did you have to run new electrical and add breakers to be able to have all machines running at once? What kind of changes are required? (I only own 10 machines)
The first thing I did was to find out the total of number of amps I needed. Video runs around 3 amps and pinball at 5 amps. I am using 20 amp breakers. So there is about 6 video games per breaker and 3 or 4 pinball per breaker. I did upgrade my electric box to add five 20 amp breakers plus other breakers for the lighting. This one room handles more amps than the whole house. I've never had a breaker blow yet of any overload.
@pickmylocks I'm in this hobby too and I hear your kind of comment a lot. Let me ask you: If you owned a few cars, because you liked fixing and restoring classic cars, would it make sense for people to tell you "Hey, you should be using them as taxi cabs and make your money back." ??
Unreal!!! Ive been collecting home consoles and have all ecept the 64dd. now I may have to start collecting the original versions like you did. Very humbling and impressive!!!! collection you have.! thanks for sharing!!
Are these your dream games that took you 19 years to get, or are they just a compilation of games you acquired over 19 years. I think you have some odd omissions, considering the time frame there, like Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, Pole Position, Joust, Mario Bros, Food Fight, Crossbow, Xevious, Burgertime, Asteroids, etc. Are you still looking to expand?
I turned a deep shade of envy green while watching this. Also may have peed a little with excitement at having seen all my favorite games from my childhood being cherished and taken care of, and displayed in the way they were intended. Thank you.
Wow, this is just simply awesome, and this brings me back to the good days of arcades, before they sadly pretty much died down many years ago. I sort of have my own arcade too, though I only have two machines, but have 95 games in total. It's just a shame that arcades will never be as popular, or good as they once were, and that collecting retro games is pretty much the only way to go in order to bring back the days when arcades ruled.
Oh my GOD! You've just transported me back to my 80's childhood, when arcades were KING! From Spy Hunter to Tron, your recreation is so reminiscent of these great times. I can almost smell the cigarettes and taste the pizza. Honestly, you've done yourself proud here, FANTASTIC JOB mate!
Watching that video made me drool! ;-D Tell me, now hard is itto maintain the Space Ace and Dragon's Lair games? I recall that laserdisc games such as those were tempramental even back in the day.
Back in 80's the orginal Pioneer PR-7820 laser player was the problem. Later the Pioneer LD-1000 player was used to solve most break down problems. I havent had much problems with the laser disk machines. The Space Ace is still running the Pioneer LD-V1000 laser player. The Dragons Lair had a broken Pioneer PR-7820 laser player when I bought it. I updated the machine to use a Sony laser player from the 90's. This made the game track very fast and play better than ever.
Doug you have a most Excellent Arcade! It is great seeing so many XY games up and running. I enjoyed seeing the Major Havoc with the correct controller. Mine uses the tempest style spinner. It was also nice seeing the older laser games up and running. You made a great representation of a 1980's arcade. The token machine on the wall is a hoot too! Take care.
I added an attached enclosed patio room, it's not a garage. I used to be in the game business for 15 years on the side so I am no longer interested in the business. I used to buy and sale games, make house call repairs and place games in bars and pizza places. Some of my collection games came from my locations. I worked a full time job for a company during the week. After work, or on weekends I operated my self employed businesses. I worked my laundry mat, games, and main job at once.
Sorry no games for sale. I work three jobs at the same time for 15 years to save the money. It took 19 years to collect this collection. I had collected most the games years before I even owned a home. Plus, I paid less than half the cost of each game. I bought most of them from auctions and alot of them didn't work. I fix my own games so I saved tons of money. If I had to buy this collection today there would be no way for me to afford these games since the prices today have gone up.
I havent seen a change in my electric bill since when I play I only play one game at a time. I only turn them all on when I have alot of people over which is not to often. I'am sure my electric bill would be high if all were on every day.
I did not want a wall switch because when I'am the only one playing I just play one game at a time. This was a problem for the video games since the power switch is usually in the back the game. I had to remount the switch inside the game near the coin box or test switch. I did not to drill any holes in the front of the cabinet. Bad part is I have to open the coin door to turn on the game.
You hear the magic I recreated using two sound systems and two Ipods. One for pinball sounds and the other for video game sounds. I recorded sounds from the real arcade games using mame and pin mame. I seperated the sounds to play certain games in the left speaker and certain games in the right speaker. Then I mixed the sounds together so you can hear two to five games playing in the left speaker and others in the right speaker. The speakers are hiding in the video game and pinball rows.
unreal! i come across this video every once in a while and it allways blows my mind.
can't believe you have a change machine and that many pinball machine's. if only you had more games from the 90's this would be my favorite room everrrrrrrrr
The holy grail of arcades. You did a bang up job and I applaud you! This truly brings back the nostalgia of a time and place long gone. So "Aladdins Castle" circa 83.
That is so nice! I would drop many quarters in your home arcade just to try and re-capture that ol magic feeling us original retro gamers got back then. When the man with the hi score was king! It really was a magic time that no one can understand who was not there.
Seeing your room brings a tear to my eye. Its a shame this era died so utterly and completely. I would love to bring back the retro arcade! I think some peeps would come back. Consoles just don't capture the excitement we had...
you have one of the most impressive home arcade rooms i have ever seen, actually it's probably the best. I spent a lot of quaters on some of those games back in the day lol.5/5

Just simply amazing, brother. From a child of the 80's who spent countless hours in places like this, I thank you for keeping these classics alive!!!

PENGO dude: Did you have to run new electrical and add breakers to be able to have all machines running at once? What kind of changes are required? (I only own 10 machines)
rabidowski 1 year ago
@rabidowski

You could not say it any better.

wow.. a dedicated Major Havoc. I Have never seen one, only the converted Tempest cabinets.

It's just a shame that arcades will never be as popular, or good as they once were, and that collecting retro games is pretty much the only way to go in order to bring back the days when arcades ruled.
freakyfornash 1 year ago

I recall that laserdisc games such as those were tempramental even back in the day.
baarbear 1 year ago
Back in 80's the orginal Pioneer PR-7820 laser player was the problem. Later the Pioneer LD-1000 player was used to solve most break down problems. I havent had much problems with the laser disk machines. The Space Ace is still running the Pioneer LD-V1000 laser player. The Dragons Lair had a broken Pioneer PR-7820 laser player when I bought it. I updated the machine to use a Sony laser player from the 90's. This made the game track very fast and play better than ever.

Great collection!! If I had the room I would add a few arcades to my game room. Mine is more of a pub feel though. Love the pins you have!

Now THAT is what I call an impressive home gameroom! You obviously put a lot of time and effort into this. Well done!

How much you want for the Defender cab! You must be rich to have all those games
BrianPicchi 2 years ago
Sorry no games for sale. I work three jobs at the same time for 15 years to save the money. It took 19 years to collect this collection. I had collected most the games years before I even owned a home. Plus, I paid less than half the cost of each game. I bought most of them from auctions and alot of them didn't work. I fix my own games so I saved tons of money. If I had to buy this collection today there would be no way for me to afford these games since the prices today have gone up.

how much has your electric bill gone up since you have had the arcades?
lukem23 2 years ago
I havent seen a change in my electric bill since when I play I only play one game at a time. I only turn them all on when I have alot of people over which is not to often. I'am sure my electric bill would be high if all were on every day.
727PENGO 2 years ago
do you have to turn them all on 1 by 1? or do you have them all hooked to a wall switch?
lukem23 2 years ago
I did not want a wall switch because when I'am the only one playing I just play one game at a time. This was a problem for the video games since the power switch is usually in the back the game. I had to remount the switch inside the game near the coin box or test switch. I did not to drill any holes in the front of the cabinet. Bad part is I have to open the coin door to turn on the game.

I can hear Elevator Action in the video but I didn't see it anywhere...?
zerojayzero 2 years ago
You hear the magic I recreated using two sound systems and two Ipods. One for pinball sounds and the other for video game sounds. I recorded sounds from the real arcade games using mame and pin mame. I seperated the sounds to play certain games in the left speaker and certain games in the right speaker. Then I mixed the sounds together so you can hear two to five games playing in the left speaker and others in the right speaker. The speakers are hiding in the video game and pinball rows.

Oh snap,
The holy grail of arcades. You did a bang up job and I applaud you! This truly brings back the nostalgia of a time and place long gone. So "Aladdins Castle" circa 83.
I'm speechless...utterly speechless.

best home arcade i have ever seen
yoyoyoyoy8 2 years ago
That is so nice! I would drop many quarters in your home arcade just to try and re-capture that ol magic feeling us original retro gamers got back then. When the man with the hi score was king! It really was a magic time that no one can understand who was not there.
Seeing your room brings a tear to my eye. Its a shame this era died so utterly and completely. I would love to bring back the retro arcade! I think some peeps would come back. Consoles just don't capture the excitement we had...
