@danceofthedruids I'd like to see a demo of it working with the ZX-81 interface, mine didn't even come with it's flight case (as you can see).
My pads seem to be fine but from performing repairs on my MPC I know the pads are held in place with thick rubber washers that act as a shock reducer, I can imagine these might perish in extreme temperatures and that could be the source of your loose pads. This should be an easy mechanical fix if you can gently take the unit to pieces and replace them.
@snolan1990 I would love to do a demo with the ZX-81 interface but for now I think I will need to catch up on your video and get calibrated on the basics. Mine did come with the flight case as well. Seller sent me a Simmons module as well that I managed to mess up the headphone output. We're going through some political chaos here at the moment. Very cool demo!
@danceofthedruids I am subscribed to you so I will get notified if/when you put up a Demo to put this demo to shame :P. It sounds like your Music Percussion Computer might have spent some time in America if it came with a Timex Sinclair. Should be a cool setup if you get it all working.
@snolan1990 Ditto and thanks! Hopefully will find this beast ... it may be buried in with my 300 + guitars. House is in a bit of a turmoil and a possible move.
@fuckingharpsichord Wow you must really like the sound if you want to trade it for a Monopoly.
The Kick is huge, the Toms, Cymbal and Hats are way more versatile than 808. I quite like the clap but it's obviously a different kinf of thing to Roland hand clap. My snare needs fixing, I think it's a broken pot but I'm not 100% on that. The Din slave i also broken on mine. I'd love to figure out how to triger sounds using the stage pad input and bypass the sequencer, that can be my summer project.
I have had to build a new case for my unit so my MPC probably won't weigh the same as yours when you get it but they are not that heavy despite the fact that they are quite physicaly large.
In the user manual it says that the unit weighs 11.3 kg although I'm pretty sure that my unit doesn't weigh that much. I would weigh my unit and tell you but I am at Uni now and I have left the MPC at home.
Thanks for the feedback. I just got my MPC1 and my clap sounds quieter than the other sounds. Also the tone to noise on some of my toms are not working..If you have a copy of the manual please can I get a copy from you?? You will be top of my Xmas list!!
I got this unit in rough shape with no flight case for about £90 on eBay UK in 2010. I have probably seen about 3 or 4 other units come up on eBay since then and they sold for £100 - £250. They seem to be quite a rare unit but more important to remember is that there seem to be very few fully functional models left. If you were to get one you would probably want to bypass the internal sequencer, I built a trigger box for mine.
The cymbal to clap button should be the simplest fix, Try placing the head of a screwdriver between the contacts on the board for the switch and see if this changes from cymbal to clap. If it does its just a dry joint or dead PTM switch
I'm thinking of getting a ZX81 to use with my MPC but from the pictures it looks like I need some kind of adapter that I guess would be imposible to find.
this reminds me of the movement drum computer. great sound and buzz to the tones!

Cool video ... I have one that I bought a few years ago including the Sinclair ZX-81 and all the cables. Are your pads coming loose?

@snolan1990 I stand corrected ... I have the Timex Sinclair 1000. The whole unit is somewhere in the studio warehouse ... somewhere.

You say the track at the end is cheesey - that early 80s soul sound is actually super trendy ; )
Nice machine

I have one of these but it has a couple of problems too.
Your clap sounds much better than mine, so that means there must be some potentiometers somewhere inside I can adjust.
Also the clap/cymbal select button is broken but I can access the clap sound with my ZX81.
Do you know what eprom version you have?
Interested in a friendly sharing of troubleshooting information?

I'll see if I can find the Eprom version.
Does your snare sound different to mine?
I'll PM you ;-)

That "cheesy" demo sounds pretty dope to me.
I hear a lot of potential in this machine. You crazy.
