No, you don't. We had some good alt-rock music and live musicians, but we also had crap like Britney Spears, TRL, Eurdance, Europop, nu-metal, kiddie stars (Aaron Carter) and boybands. We were complaining about crap like that ruining music the same way people are complaining about Gaga or whoever's popular these days.
Plus, it was much more difficult to hear new music. We didn't have computers (at least I didn't until the middle of the decade), so we actually had to listen to the radio or watch TV to hear new music. Needless to say, most of the stuff on the radio was crap, as was most of the music on TV. So, unless you happened upon some good rock station, you were stuck with the most accessible crap. Also, in retrospect, 8-track and VHS tapes were no fun.

I was born in 1993 and i will be the first to admit that music of nowdays is crap. I wish i was a teen in the 90's.Thats where i belong. =P
