well i guess 5000 polygons is a low poly model these days considering the fact that a character in Uncharted 2 is 80,000 polygons. And its a videogame, not an animated movie. Scary shit
Actually it's triangles, not actual polygons as we know them from regular modelling..
I just made a car to see how many polygons I could make a bugatti veyron to see if I could beat your result, I got around 7k on my veyron.. Without interior >:D Around 3500 on a muscle car/Z4.
Have you seen the poly characters for Crysis? I'm guessing they are around 300 polygons, but hell they know their textures.
@LasseLundster Crysis isn't using 300 poly's but much more.. though less as 5k, but uses baked in normall maps, which also takes up render time, so again.. you can say nothing about gameplay with just a poly count
Import the skeleton of a crysis character from zb/milk to maya or 3DS and you'll see for yourself. Just make sure you don't collapse the textures with the skeleton
@slay3r04 Crysis characters are 9k triangles in body, 6000 in first person (weapon) and 1500 triangles in third person view.. Their vehicles are around 20k triangles, in polygons you get around 60% of the same seeing many of the tris can't be converted without damaging the mesh. So these guys have like 3800 polygons per character, the most demanding in Crysis is the nature, actually, around 500-1500 tris each tree.
This game model needs a good engine to work in big numbers =)
@slay3r04 You are looking for post-triangulation not pre-triangulation so, 5k poly mesh in a game will triangulate and convert your count to 10k triangles. 10k triangles is the equivalent to a standard character model. Most next Gen engines have no problem handling this load however that's not considering the target audience's hardware. Consoles in particular are still lacking in terms of computational power to process and render several hundred thousand polygons on screen at once.
@LasseLundster 5k is really normall for a car that has a main spot in a scene.. Also it aren't just he poly's that make something heavy... So you better know what you are talking about, and if you dont (and you dont) then just shut up..
@happygamestvfun1 Hello, I just posted a reply to slay3r04s post so you can read that one, and no I do literally mean a game engine. 5K for a car isn't bad, especially for scenario based games as you can easily push like half a million tris in update bach fields, but say GTA style or a F1 game, with reflections and soft shadows on, this car would need a pretty good engine and I don't think unreals low engine would be sufficient but I'm not sure though.
for a low poly model it looks very awsome!

need to slow the rotation a lot! Makes it hard to see and will make people think you are trying to hide a lack of detail or mistakes.

5k polys is low poly? Good luck implenting 30 of them on a normal computer scene, I take it you have a kick ass engine for this game.

5000 is quite low, next gen engines suport polycount reaching hundreds of thousands or even millions of tirangles.
As for the crysis characters.... at least 10k

@abkleo well, you can pause at any time to see the details :)
He was saving rendering time, and wanted you to see all 360° of this model.
5 seconds of this vid could easily last 10-15 minutes of rendering time in vray
