  • I love Maggie Chung!!!

  • Stunning! The sound is just as vivid as the amazing colors! Powerful emotions are expressed beautifully!!! It's a treat to listen and watch over and over!!!

  • the music is so beautiful.

  • ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • I like this extended version of this fight. This fight is like a dream.Very beautiful.Crouching tiger hidden dragon was also a very beautiful film in its own way,but i thought hero would have been even bigger then crouching tiger.I was wrong thou.

  • if you watch this with your eyes closed .... it sounds like someones having a baby ^^

  • people these days dont care about beautiful movies like this anymore

  • @tehpeasant ....she (Maggie Cheung) has almost other worldly beauty. The exotic look is unlike any actress ive seen in awhile. Eyes like obsidian...feline like features, and her performance of this is beautiful.

  • I can't remember ever seeing something which was so hopelessly ridiculous and beautiful at the same time.

  • This scene was so poetic... and Maggie Cheung was so beautiful in this movie.

  • @pspboy7 ..she's great, she was even better in Green Snake...she's aged quite well.

  • @SuperOmnicron

    She WAS green snake?????

  • hahah Ni xiao shénme that part I understand although I'm not chinese haha

    I'm Filipino haha

  • they are both so beautiful, this music is so much more than just music <3

  • minus this scene, ziyi's scenes in this movie were so pointless

  • Cinematically this scene is beautiful, but it's an extremely boring fight.

The whole movie suffered from this over-indulgent substitution of substance for style, as did House of Flying Daggers. Between the flowery, over-choreographed movements, the cheesy slo mo and the opulent scenery shots, the fights in Hero feel more like an art reel than anything else. Movie fights are supposed to feel dangerous.

  • @Sambucca You just said everything I felt about this movie. There were one or two good shots, especially the ending, but overall it was kinda horrible. I felt like it was made specifically tailored for a Western audience who didn't know jack about real martial arts movies.

  • @Link2Me It's a asian movie that tells a legend that happend in Asia..

Besides chinese people think differently then we do.

  • @laurenssius Dude, I am Chinese and I am telling you, it is not your typical chinese martial arts film. Trust me, I grew up on this stuff.

  • @Link2Me

Heard something about this whole movie is based on a dream. All of the fight scenes are more interpretive than literal. You're right that most martial arts films (Chinese or not) are not as illustrative as this... if you catch my use of term.

  • @MadBagOfHorses ... good point, it was also help to have a background on Asian history, and the legends on some of the stories which provide the background for heroic fables such as these.

  • One of the most beautiful scenes every created...

  • it's made me think to Alfred Hitchkock who directed many beautiful scenes.

  • I love Maggie Cheung

  • The dvd I bought in Australia has a shorter scene. Now that I' ve seen this one, I'm feeling a bit disappointed with my version as this extended version of this scene makes it even more beautiful and exhilirating. Was this in the US version or something?

  • mess with the best, end like the rest XD

  • @EternalRoller I believe it is...

mess with the best, die like the rest

    from the movie hackers

  • @EternalRoller Well, that's pretty ironic, because Moon actually survives this movie, and...........

  • anyone knows more music like that?

    its sooo .. :x

  • i need a very in depth description of the movie, who everyone is what they are doing and why they are fighting, please please help me, i dont understand this movie.

  • @smith4182 then watch it....thought that was obvious or wiki it, its not hard dude

  • This is why I like asian movies. They often tell stories using images and music, instead of showing events as they are supposed to be actually happening.

Some european movies do it too, but it's always depressing stuff about suffering and insanity. Or you end up with movies like Avatar, which have fancy images, but they are not representing anything.

  • @Yora21 Avatar was made and created by James Cameron. I just watched a lot of the special features on the dvd set.. and the only help he got was from New Zealand.. im pretty sure NZ isnt in Europe.

  • @Yora21

Avatar actually had a HUGE pro-preservation of the environment theme per its original composition. The intensity of the anti-human exploitation theme was toned WAY down before it made it to the screen though.

I think I remember hearing James Cameron say he sort of regretted the degree to which that theme was removed in some interview. Don't have a reference =[

  • @Yora21 I agree, avatar attempted way too hard to exist sheerly for allegory and it failed miserably. It symbolizes a dark part of our history that is unalterable.

  • @Yora21 Avatar is telling us to protect mother earth... Which is VERY relevant right now with globalwarming and polution, this might tell a story of a fancy full history in another time period BUT its just entertainment... Avatar actually does have a moral...

  • @Stalkable00 why are you raping the comment section with avatar this is about the movie hero which in my opinion is a much classier, touching, deeper and satisfying film than avatar, avatar wasnt bad but each to there own rather than purposely go through the comment section on here spamming everyone with avatar knowledge you should try watching perhaps one of the most beautiful clips on youtube which is right in front of you, now please stop with avatar this and that and just enjoy

  • @Yora21 Well said.

  • absolutely the most beautiful fight scene i ever seen in any movie.

  • Comment removed

  • this is literature and art fused together into motion.. there are no words to describe the extent of the beauty of this scene..

  • 5:29 onwards = <3<3<3<3<3<3 So beautiful

  • This was not a movie; this was poetry in motion.

  • the movie had thsi harmony between nature and people, they both looked so together.

  • The best chinese movie ever!! This legend shows how Chinese Culture can be Perfect. And those productions always has an Awesome Photography Direction. Congratulations to Zhang Yimou, for he's the genious behind this masterpiece.

  • holy shit epic sword!

  • Moon: laughs

    Flying Snow: Whats so funny?

    Moon; You are foolish!

    lmao

  • @laineycox Actually, moon says: I'm laughing because of your foolish actions last night. (Btw, this movie makes no sense if you understand chinese. which is weird)

  • One of the most beautiful movies i can think of. Each one of these shoots are like a painting.

  • agree

  • @TheTimothah I though the same, too bad not many can appreciate that beauty

  • love itt.. hohh...

  • this is so nice mivie.. relaxing and very intimate.. u can feel the emotions inside..

  • The most stunning cinematography in film.

  • beautiful

  • nice! long time great movie

  • Ah, here it is:

    /watch?v=Rn9ezbmql_M&feature=channel

Put youtube . com in front of it without the spaces.

  • This movie had four of the most talented stars. I especially loved Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung!

  • Brilliant

  • the best movie i ever saw in my entire life!

  • that was so beutiful........

  • That's why Chinese actors fly a lot in movies, but can't jump high at the Olympics... hehe

  • Where the hell do I get this version of the film? Damn Quentin Tarantino for tarnishing such a remarkable work of art.

  • Tarantino had nothing to do with the movie, they just used his name so the film can be shown on US

  • Of course he did. He was responsible for the 'americanization' of the film. Whether he used his own hand or not, he was the person behind the conversion.

  • no, all he did was help pay for the film!

  • Americanization invvolving...

  • All Tarantino did was "present" this film, which is a way of him going "I really like this movie you should watch it" he didn't touch this scean or any this movie.

  • You obviously have not seen the uncut version of this film. It was a poor translation also. Read it up in Wikipedia.

  • I don't mind that they changed it from "all under heaven" to "our land" it doesn't detract from the story in my opinon, the message about putting his people before vengence is still there. No translation can be 100% acturate, its the pitfalls of localistaion, unless you like reading it in broken english.

  • YOU may not mind the poor translation. But many Chinese people do. It is an insult to misrepresent such important words—few as they may be. There is no literary way that 'our land' can carry more significance than 'all under heaven'. Think more deeply about it and you may have to agree.

  • Well the director seems to think quite differently "If you ask me if 'Our land' is a good translation, I can't tell you. All translations are handicapped. Every word has different meanings in different cultures,"

  • The 'director', ergo translator, did not realize the distinction. Like you, it seems.

"Our land" expresses that we are all of this same country and should be unified for the greater good.

"All Under Heaven" is originally meant to signify the entire world. Everything beneath the sun and the moon.

"Our land" is limiting, whereas "All Under Heaven" is expansive.

  • No the director ergo Zhang Yimou thought it was a good translation. It conveyed that Broken sword wanted his people yo be united.

  • I disagree. Regardless of what the the director felt, if that is even true.

  • "our land" and "all under heaven" both have their merits.

  • Oh and seeing as you sugested me reading it I found this interesting quote from wikipedia: "The movie was finally released in American theaters on August 27, 2004 after intervention by Disney executives and Quentin Tarantino, who helped secure an UNCUT English-subtitled release. He also offered to lend his name to promotional material for the film in order to attract box office attention to it; his name was attached to the credits as "Quentin Tarantino Presents"."

  • There has not been an uncut version released in the States to date. That Wikipedia article is inaccurate— perhaps I should have not suggested it—but you should know that you can't fully trust a room of monkeys with typewriters. The original film is over 3 hours long.

  • The extended version is 107 mins i can't find any source that backs you up on the 3 hours claim. Are you confusing it with Ran or something?

  • My mistake. I was gonna say two actually. But I suppose it is even less than that.

Somewhere here on YouTube is a clip from the full length edition that show Moon attempting suicide. The scene above is also from that version.

I am part Chinese. My uncle stood up when we watched the film and said "that's wrong". I did watch the original and remembered that it was translated correctly originally. So why the change?

"This land is your land...this land is my land..."

  • Beautiful! Zhang Ziyi is awesome! <3

  • so awesome I feel so bad for moon though. :(
