Putting emulsion on your screen.

someone please help me... what type of emulsion is need for the coating? can i use the normal emulsion paint or there is a special type of emulsion... and also do i need to mix it some other chemical first?

Coating the back of the screen is NOT a neccesary step to take. I have done tons of screenprinting in art school, and never once did we coat both sides. Worked perfectly without this step. Weather or not these people use a different kind of emulsion I dont know.

So far no problems with the emulsion in normal light. We use Autosol 2000. The lights we use for exposing the screens are high powered halogen and fluorescent lights. Notice the lid is on the main container. There have been times that we have to toss the emulsion in the trough because students leave it sitting for a long time. Students working quickly create no problems when they pour it back in. Its a school and we have a limited budget to throw stuff away when it can be reused.

for a light sensitive emulsion . that lid was off for a long time and poring the emulsion back in ....does this not effect the emulsion

@boogski actually the name for the "trough" is a SCOOP COATER. you can buy them on the internet cheap.

I'd like to add:

A) Wear gloves when mixing and applying emulsion. It contains chemicals that can irritate skin.

B) For quality screens, ALWAYS apply emulsion in a UV safe environment. Even a short period of time in the light starts the cross-linking process in the emulsion.

C) Keep the screen in the screen room or an environment with filtered air and out of the shop when coating. The shop is a linty, dusty place. Pinhole city.
