TY for this BEAUTIFUL rendition! I bought this album while in college when it first came out and proceeded to buy every one since. They are all vinyl but I cannot tell you how many times they have all been played. Stevie has brought so much joy and passion into my life. Amazing is the adjective I will use for now but of course words cannot adequately express his genius. Thanks once again, Bazza :)
Stevie......... No matter how much we appreciate him, it will unfortunately never be enough. It is a bar that we can never reach. So, the best that we can do is to love him, tell the uninformed, buy his music and hope that another Stevie will land on our planet. So far, only Stevie has arrived and no one has gotten close to his talent.
o talento dele superava o problema com a falta de visão,o cara é simplesmente um show.acompanho ele há muito tempo e me sinto uma pessoa felizarda por stevie wonder fazer parte da trilha sonora da minha vida.
@TheFreemanuk DONT SAY THAT! D: Let's hope thats not for a looooong time. And besides...he'll forever live in our hearts! ..ugh that sounded cheesy, but its true!
The man is almost 60. His voice is holding up extremely well, considering he has been singing professionally since the age of 10. God is preserving him well.
That sharp (or is it flat?) downbeat of the piano at 1:34 really sets the tone for the rest of this song. Loss, despair, frustration, betrayal, and the passing of what what once was, all culminated in that one note.
I Never thought I'd ever get to hear "Super Woman" live, ever. - all need now is "Please don't go" live. Then I'll be a content "Stevie" man. Peace x ...
For those wondering just saying in Dutch that I am looking forward to any next concerts by Stevie in Holland and that I think Stevie is a musical genius!
i love stevie but this is actually my first time hearing this! i know this song b/c donny hathaway (my other boo) did a live cover of this and tore it up. now i know where he got the inspiration
You might want to check out the entire "Music of My Mind" album. At the time it was recorded, synthesizers were just beginning to appear on the scene, and Stevie makes masterful use of them. Here in this clip, he is playing an acoustic solo piano accompaniment to his singing. On the original recording there are heartfelt synth lines, bass, drums, etc. adding to the mournful and soulful sound. The album is so full of soul that it jerks tears from your eyes and pangs from your heart.
I always thought this song was James Taylor-ish, and later learned Stevie actually did write and produce a song for James Taylor. Stevie is one of the most versatile artists I've ever heard. He's written songs for everyone from Michael Jackson to James Taylor to John Denver.
I'm thankful that the song is just a little too long to be run into the ground over & over again on the radio. One of my all-time favorite songs & one of his best albums.
Can you believe Stevie was like, 21 or 22 when he wrote this song? Compare that to what people 21 or 22 are making today and the difference is mind-boggling and sometimes insulting.
Not only that, he didn't change the key of the song to make it easier to sing!! I can't think of anyone thats been in the game as long as he has - shoot, even with 10 or so years - that doesn't have trouble hitting some of those higher notes they used to sing! He sounds basically the same, just more matured. The boy is BADDDD!
I got the year wrong--my bad. 1982's Ribbon in the Sky constituted a return to form, not this which he wrote in 1972 in the middle of his greatest display of genius.
His voice is still the amazing instrument it's always been even if he doesn't seem able to write songs like this anymore. Sadly, his writing output has tended toward the imminently forgettable for lo these many years. Even this song represented a kind of return to form after a decade of rather trite songwriting. Don't think I don't still consider him God, though--'cause I do.
..Stevie..wow,what can't i say 'bout cha?!! .there are no words i can express about your humanity, lyriscm and musicability!..you should be president..if not spokesperson for the the U.S!..what a great embassador you would be!..for people with less vision than you...i am humbled..Go Stevie!!
wooooooooooooooonderful, i love it, "where were u when i needed u" mmmmmmmmmm, i love it, i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stevie W, is soooooooooo good to good!!!!!!!!
Yes, last 30 secs is unbelevable well-performed. Fantastic singer! And weee, finally he comes to Norway (20. sept) :) . Every norwegian who likes this kind of music must come ! I can't wait!
I was not even born when Stevie Wonder first penned this incredible song but It has always been one of my favorites. This live rendition actually brought a tear to my eye and I don't even mind admitting it!
Stevie breaks your heart with this performance as he sings about something so personal as a relationship that didn't work out early in his life ...And with her passing, it just tore him up ... But he takes it to a wonderful place ....
I dont know what ya'll think about it, but through my own experiances this song means alot to me. This song is beautiful in every measure... it's my favorite!!!!
I agree... this should have been a song that should have been heard around the world. This song can touch many people who have gone or is going through the same experiance.
This version is from the BBC Abbey Road concert in 2005. Perhaps surprisingly, this tune was supposedly inspired by Syreeta, Stevie's first wife. Apparently she had 'tried to boss the bull around' in their marriage (Stevie's a Taurus). In the same show though, Stevie breaks down when singing 'You and I', also about Syreeta, who had recently died.
this is my favourite stevie's tune ... i've listened that 1000 times and this is still magic !! this guy is a sorcerer and this live interpretation demonstrates that he is great pianist too !!
This. Is. Incredible.

Looking at recent Stevie clips and stuff, his voice has changed in the last decade. It's after maturing but it still rocks.
Thing is though, he can still do his old stuff pretty well. For example, the start of this song. Sounds like younger Stevie!
I love this song :)
