ok most of the time that MM hunter wasnt using his rapid fire nor his aimed shot as much... he was spamming steady shot on purpose just so you can asy survival is better when it isnt.... survival hunters are good for snaring and pissing people off in pvp they od great damage but not as much direct damage as MM setting off Aimed shot then Chimera shot right after is a good rotation try it .....
@draggatron nice vid but u forget that u have careful aim on your talents and ur on a test dummy so u constantly have that buff so in essence taking it all into account survival tops mm
Hey Olympicuss, just wanted to say hi. I've been following you and appreciate your help. I'm Amethystry, troll hunter, Smolderthorn. I'm reluctant to switch to SV but can't seem to get my rotation to produce above 20-24k with MM .. so you may convert me soon.
i used to be pulling a ton of dps when SV was the best last year.. switched to MM and never tried SV again. After the initial burst phase I pull off 25k on the dummy, but 20k-22k sustained.
Is it standard prcoedure to Ex > Cobra > Ex > Arc > Ex > Arc > Arc during LnL? I dont know how you would do the last 2 arcanes without depleting your mana

@Verenidus, Yes u are correct, SV is topping MM, in my this video i was fine tuned for MM, now that im fined tuned for SV im seeing ALOT higher numbers. And that is the reason im SV every fight now in Dragon Soul. Happily that is, im burnt on MM.
@Draggtaron You're entitled to your own opinion but according to World of Logs and DPSBot Survival Hunters have a clear dps lead in every fight. Obviously if you're better at playing marksman, you should stay marksman, but a dps test on a firelands boss isn't enought to state Marksman is better than Survival when all the numbers say otherwise. You probaly already figured that out because you are playing survival more than marksman anyway ;)
Alright dude you're doing your LnL procs wrong. Your first 2 can be fired without delay, but your third one needs a spacer. So it woul dbe something like this.

The dummy means nothing on a dummy for the simple reason that the dummy will never drop below 90% health so you get the careful aim on all your steadied and aimed shots....

As SV you want as much mastery as you can get AS LONG AS you dont go below 1500 haste rating. As long as ur over 1500 then its fine. i've got a question, for sv hunters. Ain't mastery one of the most important thing to a sv hunter? Because it increase your magical damage (AS,ES,BA,SS etc). I was wondering, why u didn't reforged to mastery, and reforged to haste?

According to blizzard post it was fixed and you no longer needed to spam ANY spell inbetween Explosive Shot on LnL procs. In doing so IF you tested it would would see that u only get 6 to 8 ticks. Why ?? dunno just shows it itsnt fixed. So doing it the way I said Ex > Cobra > Ex > Arc > Ex > Arc > Arc gets you ALL 9 ticks AND does the most DMG. I may just post video showing it. @Draggatron If you do a video specifically about LnL, consider that the point was about the first 2 ES being able to be fired back to back, with an arcane shot then split second wait then the last ES (basically just not spamming ES after the AS). Try that and please report results. I've seen it explained in very explicit detail with timeline by a forum poster, can't remember where off the top of my head though.

Ok, IM playing SV pretty much every fight rolling with 4 set bonus 30k+ (often alot more) on every boss topping dps in my guild , MM is slightly behind for a fact if u can pull of your rotation PERFECT 100% of the time then maybe it will top but how often can u do that in marks? im doin about the same DPS on Ultraxion with both with the exeption that MM burst is like 40-50k+ so overall MM will win on that fight. So i dont think theres no disputing it SV is on top in raids at the moment.
MY ADD-ONS: X-Perl (for my player/target frames), Dominoes ( for my bars ), Recount ( for me dps ), Kg-Panels ( for my panels behind my bars/chat box ), NeedtoKnow ( keeps track of Internal Cooldowns ), AtlasLoot ( teh Loot for bosses ), Prat 3.0 ( for chat box ). That's all of them I believe. For arena I do use Gladius.

I think you missed my point, my point is that careful aim provides a significant increase in dps on a dummy. Self buffed you will have a 100% crit chance for both Aimed Shot and Steady shot on that dummy with Careful Aim. Compare that to a normal 45ish% self buffed it is a pretty significant increase. On a dummy you should always have higher dps as MM. I'm not trying to knock you but simply state that there IS a big difference. I do like the video and thanks for the time making it though.

Careful aim makes a pretty big difference. 60% crit fully raid buffed vs 100% crit on a dummy is pretty significant... Instead of a lot of 25k-30k hits you are getting 50-60k guaranteed crits all the time on the dummy... You might not think that's significant but it is.
Did you take into account the fact that in MM spec you benefeit from Careful Aim on a training dummy? (a increased chance of AI to crit is... well pretty op)

pt2. This is a conversation I just had with another hunter from Australia last week. He told me these were things he never even thought about ( everything I listed below ) So with this new way of thinking he raided this week and was happy to tell me he went from 4th in deeps to 1st. DPS is more than just gear, Think of it as the engine in a race care. So its important to have it reforged/glyphed/gemmed correctly. But all the decisions u make during a raid ( the driver in the car) is the rest. Are you maximizing ur trinket procs? Are you moving as little as possible? Are you preparing shots for when you DO have to move? I do, I have an addon that keeps tracks of my internal CD's so I know when there about to proc again. When they do I change my rotation for it.
ok so i tried both specs, and they still did half the dps you were doing. i know you were in heroic firelands gear, but my average item level is 382 with all 378+ gear and i still can't pull the right dps. so we basically almost have the same gear with the fact that you had the elixer and food buff on but that doesnt compensate for the 20k more dps you're doing then me. if you could, add me on real ID ndfan0806@aim.com i'd really apreciate your help if you can in your spare time

Good video, but I think Survival is going to top Marksman DPS in Dragon Soul specific fights, just because of the increased haste, nature of the fights(like you already mentioned). You should make another vid using Dragon Soul encounters so people can see the difference in the content they should be doing.

Also, I don't know if you heard, but blizz changed mechanics on Explosive Shot. Rotation now is ES > ES > AS > (.5 sec delay) ES. I have tested this over and over, and with this rotation you will get all 9 ES ticks. Try it out for yourself, but you do have to slightly delay the last ES otherwise you only get 8 ticks.
Your comparison for which spec is better is apple to oranges. First you used all your cooldowns, and you probably had points in Careful Aim when you did your MM test. Thus MM dps on a target dummy will be dramatically distorted because a lot more crits with AiS and SS. All your comparison really shows is the approximate DPS each spec would do for the first 20 seconds of a fight, and of course MM will always win that battle.
I don't think you should pop CDS on dummy like you did. You popped rapid and racials if you want more accurate DMG you should do a regular rotation with no cds. Dummy is tricky because sometimes your trinkets wont pop at the same time too but its something.
Yes, Careful Aim DOES increase ur crit chance while boss ( or raid dummy ) is above 90%. I've already tried 2 points into Careful Aim as SV just to see if it raised my dps much on the dummy..and it didn't. With our crit being so high with trinkets and gear, this careful Aim doesn't help much at all. We crit ( or I do ) all the time anyway on trash/bosses/dummy.

Hey i been watching your video's and i have to say best i have seen on youtube. But if i may ask as a fellow hunter and fan of your video. If you can please make a video on Hunter add ons. And i use your rotation but i just don't seem to be hitting as high as you do. Is their any tip's you may have? I practice alot on the raid dummy but i just don't seem to burst as fast as you do. Please help. I want to be hc fl ready. I want to transmog the gear lol. but thanks if you can help. Forever a fan!

pt2. This is a conversation I just had with another hunter from Australia last week. He told me these were things he never even thought about ( everything I listed below ) So with this new way of thinking he raided this week and was happy to tell me he went from 4th in deeps to 1st. Also gaining an overall 12k more dps. So dont think its just the gear. It's a part of it sure, but so are all the other things I listed. GL your brother in arms...OLYMPICUSS

DPS is more than just gear, Think of it as the engine in a race care. So its important to have it reforged/glyphed/gemmed correctly. But all the decisions u make during a raid ( the driver in the car) is the rest. Are you maximizing ur trinket procs? Are you moving as little as possible? Are you preparing shots for when you DO have to move? I do, I have an addon that keeps tracks of my internal CD's so I know when there about to proc again. When they do I change my rotation for it.

ok so i tried both specs, and they still did half the dps you were doing. i know you were in heroic firelands gear, but my average item level is 382 with all 378+ gear and i still can't pull the right dps. so we basically almost have the same gear with the fact that you had the elixer and food buff on but that doesnt compensate for the 20k more dps you're doing then me. if you could, add me on real ID ndfan0806@aim.com i'd really apreciate your help if you can in your spare time

@Verenidus, I agree. Also keep in mind 4.3 has only been out now like 3 weeks, and in that 3 weeks were gearing up and now working on Heroic mode. So once things get to a farm status kinda, I can easily do different specs each week to show the DPS difference on each boss. But now? it's just still WAY to soon. Good video, but I think Survival is going to top Marksman DPS in Dragon Soul specific fights, just because of the increased haste, nature of the fights(like you already mentioned). You should make another vid using Dragon Soul encounters so people can see the difference in the content they should be doing.

@natev85 , No, careful aim doesnt make much difference, I've already explained this. We ( or I ) have high crit ANYWAY, with trinket procs and gear, I crit most of the time. As far as what u said about blizz changing the way explosive works and ur suggestion, I appreciate it and will ck into it immediatley, Thanks alot love the feedback. IF there is a change Ill let the hunter community know ASAP. @Uitestarn, yes i DO do 43k and 50k as MM on dummy self buffed. It's funny to me u even said that.

Also, I don't know if you heard, but blizz changed mechanics on Explosive Shot. Rotation now is ES > ES > AS > (.5 sec delay) ES. I have tested this over and over, and with this rotation you will get all 9 ES ticks. Try it out for yourself, but you do have to slightly delay the last ES otherwise you only get 8 ticks.

Your comparison for which spec is better is apple to oranges. First you used all your cooldowns, and you probably had points in Careful Aim when you did your MM test. Thus MM dps on a target dummy will be dramatically distorted because a lot more crits with AiS and SS. All your comparison really shows is the approximate DPS each spec would do for the first 20 seconds of a fight, and of course MM will always win that battle.

I don't think you should pop CDS on dummy like you did. You popped rapid and racials if you want more accurate DMG you should do a regular rotation with no cds. Dummy is tricky because sometimes your trinkets wont pop at the same time too but its something.

I believe you should change your damage meter or log that, cause there is noway that u peak 43 k with survival @ dummy without any raidbuffs.

Yes, Careful Aim DOES increase ur crit chance while boss ( or raid dummy ) is above 90%. I've already tried 2 points into Careful Aim as SV just to see if it raised my dps much on the dummy..and it didn't. With our crit being so high with trinkets and gear, this careful Aim doesn't help much at all. We crit ( or I do ) all the time anyway on trash/bosses/dummy.
