  • I'm always astounded by the amount of precision & coordination organists must display....Sometimes I half expect to see their heads explode. I wonder what a brain scan would show while they're playing....

  • Wonderful, but barking mad. :-) What a great entertainer. Thanks.

  • terrible !

  • Don't know what to say except Holy Crap! This guy is a real master on the king of instruments!!

  • this guy is a symphonic !!!

Freitas - PORTO ALEGRE - RS - BRASIL

  • Wow....this guy is like the Tom Brier of the organ world!

  • I just watched this again. Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

  • WOW, you are Awesome Cameron! excellent pedal work too ;-)

  • What the heck? An octopus couldn't play that! :)

  • @rdallen226

Indeed! Octopuses do not play church organs.

  • @kolobite TROLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. I didn't know that. Thanks for setting me straight!

  • Beautiful organist !! BEAUTIFUL !!

  • i saw him doing organ for a silent phantom of the opera, and I couldnt decide what was more impressive: his playing/talent or his crystal studded pants.

  • I love the way he plays the descant on the pedals then holds his hands up to play a pedal solo It pales into insignificance LOL He is Awesome !

  • type this in the you tube search bar -

"Cameron Carpenter Jingle Bells on toy Casio keyboards organ 720P"

    - now THAT'S skill.

  • I continue to be awed by the power of the human brain! I know drummers use both hands and feet, but this is ridiculous. He is even doing a separate little thing with his thumbs while his hands are occupied with the melody. Try just patting your head and rubbing your belly! And the guy didn't hardly even want to come out for a second bow. Wow!

  • It is a shame the audio is out of sync. So many youtube videos seem to be like this.

  • @marcel911 It's the speed of sound. The people clapping sound to themselves as if they are perfectly synchronized. By the time the sound of their claps reaches the mikes that are on stage there has been a time delay because sound only goes 1100 feet per second.

If the audience are 200 feet further from the mikes than the pipes are, that's 400 feet of delay, or 4/11 of a second, or 364 milliseconds. To avoid the effect you'd need to put the microphones in the audience (koff koff).

  • @amazing763 I've only played on a pipe organ once in my life, many years ago when I was very young. And I will never forget how disconcerting that time delay was! Though I suspect there might have been more too it than that. I'm not sure the compressors, or whatever, were up to pressure. The notes took a long time to build up to full volume.

  • @sbergman27 Right you are! I'd neglected to add in the delay for an electropneumatic organ action. With an electric or a tracker action the valve opens when the key is pressed, and the delay the organist hears is the pipe's time to speak plus the travel time for sound. For electropneumatic there is the additional time for the air in the pneumatic control tubes, which cannot be faster than the speed of sound in air. Genuine musicians (such as Cameron) know how to deal with it.

  • i think you are fantastic cameron . god gave you such talent. iam an aides advocate. thanks for caring. we are people too.god bless you . never stop beliving in yourself. come to i.up. someday you are welcome here.polywog690 indiana,pa. jimmy stewarts hometown

  • polywog 690

  • Wow what prodigious talent ! takes your mind of the occasional hiccup ! If he stays with it as long as Virgil he should be really interesting to listen to.

  • Such great artistry! Wow!

  • are those women's shoes? Hey, I'm just sayin'.

  • @xraytech2011 They are special organ shoes.Anything else he would not be able to play the pedals.Take care.

  • @starrgazer1000

I stand corrected. I was just teasing anyway. I suspect the sole of the shoe is thin leather to allow the feel of the pedals instead of like alot of players who play in their socks. it looks like the heel is contured forward so they dont " chatch" as the foot moves from one pedal to the next. Hey, I learned something new today- organ shoes !Its all good baby. relax, drink some wine, have some cheese...press replay and turn it up.

  • Congratulations on such wonderful playing. You have obviously worked very hard to attain such a high standard especially the pedal board which you surely negociate in the dark with practise. It was a highly polished performance and the Stars and Stripes arrangment of the work appeals to the patronage of the American people.Ignore negative remarks of some people. They cannot do better so crude, lewd and rude comments exude from their mouths.

I personally wish you the best of luck.

  • Wow! Fantastic!

  • The 21st century's answer to Virgil Fox!

  • I do hate electronic organs:

  • "GAAAAAA!" *jaw drops to floor----stays there for 3 minutes and 51 seconds*

    WOW

    peace

  • at 2:20 he presses the wrong preset button 3 times in a row. not a musical error. just the nature of the instrument. every organ you have to perform on is like learning a new instrument all over again for the first time. a violinist gets to live breath eat and sleep with the same with the identical instrument 24/7 his whole lifetime. an organist has to learn a whole new beast at every single concert. this is encore #3 after a long concert so it's understandable to forget where a preset was set

  • It's just a pity the audio and video don't always seem to be in sync... or is it just my slow computer?

  • Incredible!!

  • What kind of classical has traps?

  • @The2010SnowDay Ummmm... that one, obviously!! Love it!

  • Who cares what he's wearing? Listen to his performance. He's making that organ sing!

  • This guy's feet are godly!

  • There is nothing quite so unedifying as the sound of white people trying to clap in time to music!

    Fabulous playing - go Cameron!

  • @diva102693 Dat is right on man,De black people keep in time to de tune when played on de black notes.

    Middle Aged Honky

  • @steinwaygrande1 Gay actually has a duel meaning, one being homosexual and the other happy. That said, you have to admit he does look pretty fuggin' gay, maybe if he would wear a darker color and grew out his hair it would help.

  • Once in a while you will get thouse permofrmers that are a virtuoso on the intrument of choice, in this case the organ, and has so much class and shomanship that truly make the whole concert enjoyable! Congradulations!

  • My jaw just hit the floor, bouncing off and knocking my chair backwards. This is an incredible performance, the best on YouTube. Rock on!

  • This guy is great!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The boots aren't half as gay as his pants.

But amazing nonetheless. I wish I had an ounce of his talent.

  • A WELL DESERVED STANDING OVATION!

  • i feel as if the only place you can truly play a patriotic piece is at the ocean grove organ where you can pull out the flag stop!

  • amazing organist

  • my idol

  • My GOD..... You are amazing!!!! Now that is talent!! Keep moving forward!!!

  • pretty intense talent

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • That piccolo part was amazing, it wasn't overdone at all

  • Awesome! I'm breathless after watching this.

  • actually those shoes would make it less stress on your ankles and joints. I play with a wedge type myself which helps

  • This is absolutely spectacular!

  • Extraordinary interpretation. I suspect Horowitz would love it.

  • Gay? I'm not gay but I love this guys talent! Awesome!

  • what the hell, is this about being gay, or being great? IMO, it's fantastic!

  • AH-MA-ZIINNGG!!

  • The one and only... "one´s man Band" !

  • Are there any videos of Cameron playing a mighty wurlitzer?

  • @digikitty11 yes, watch video "Cameron (Taylor) Carpenter plays Theatre Organ"

  • Absolutely amazing! Incredibly difficult to play. I could hear every note when the piccolos are supposed to play their part. WOW!

  • so cool!

  • DAAAAAAANG!!!! freakn awesome!!!

  • There is so much about Cameron Carpenter which I seriously dislike (his overtly camp style, manner etc, plus just how flash and OTT his playing is) - but then I watch him actually playing like this, then I pick up the pieces of my jaw off the floor. I might think he needs a little moderating, but by God he's talented.

  • @EccentricRichard Why the hell should his pure talent be "moderated" and constrained in anyway? Everyone has their opinion, and in mine, that is absurd.

  • Brilliant,,, outstanding, amazing,, as one musician to another you are brilliant, if you ever fancy touring the UK I would pay to watch you play. Craig

  • Damn, he's good !!!

  • i wish this were available on blu ray

  • This guy is phenomenal. He strikes me as a Julliard classical pianist on a holiday break. He is really having too much fun out there I'm jealous

  • @eleni1968 vote up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @eleni1968 I think he actually got his Master's from Juliard.

  • This young man is one of the greatest organists of the 20th and now 21st century.

Could care less if he is or is not gay, his talent is what he took from HIM and made it Great. So for Lord's sake leave him alone and enjoy and support his music. Christians, and all others, practice the Golden Rule...Love thy Lord 1st and Love Thy Neighbor.

  • what kind of freak is this guy, wow just wow. Incredible, genius to the bone.

  • Absolutely amazing. The piccolo part in the feet is incredible to hear and to watch. Although I much prefer "standard" classical organ repertoire, I am thrilled to see Mr. Carpenter perform. I've read an interview in which a professor of organ from Juilliard (where C.C. studied) said that the organ teachers learned from C.C. some new techniques! Wow!

  • Absolutely amazing - especially the trio with the piccolo solo and the footwork on the pedals!

  • happy 4th everyone !!!!!

  • lol looks like a contortionist.

  • Let's go USA!

  • OYY! Phobes go hang to dry with the rest of the laundry, this guy is AWESOME!! Cameron, you rock!

  • THANK YOU!!!! That was terrific Look at those feet go! WOW!!!!!

  • Good presentation, but the articulation is sloppy. He could have gone just a bit slower and created a much better performance. I have no objection to anything else, but without a clean performance, there not much else. It could also be the mikes....

Mark Herman is still not perfect, but closer to what I am expecting.

"Mark Herman at the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ"

  • @TuboEspectador He's trying to keep at Sousa's original tempo, march tempo which is almost impossible on an organ, yet he does so almost admiringly. It's truly incredible

  • The shoe's that Cameron uses are specially made just for playing AGO pedalboards (keyboards for the feet) on large console organs. I myself use a pair of low-heel OrganMasters which do look funny on me however they allow me to precisely play the pedals with fewer mistakes. Nearly all professional and even some hobby organist wear these specially made shoe's and though they look too narrow or uncomfortable, really they're not. Getting one's fat foot into them is a task but not uncomfortable.

  • he's a beast!!

  • Who the hell cares that he is gay?! What has that to do with anything?! We should be grateful that there is a talent like his that can be enjoyed by everyone, and that he shares it!

  • I am gay...BIG DEAL...he is an amazing musician...and that's NUFF SAID.

  • I am speachless...simply amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • Ok, ths performance is quite amazing, but it appears to me that he missed a piston right at about 2:20. Nevertheless, amazing footwork!

  • WOW!

  • That jst spells out foot cramp haha. Awesome.

  • This dude is amazing you should see his other video when he does Raiders of the Lost Ark theme from Indiana Jones.

  • Chic shoes

  • @80sArtStar Organists frequently wear tap shoes without the taps attached. They're flexible, supple and lightweight; they hug the feet (for greater control); and the heels are just the right height and width to be able to do heel-toe-heel-toe chromatic scales. Organ shoes for an organist aren't a fashion statement (except for the fact that he chose white). Organ shoes for an organist are as essential as dance shoes for a dancer.

  • @loydsheryl Thanks. I had no idea.

  • @loydsheryl Any aspiring organists looking for organ shoes - contact Organmaster shoe company in Massachusetts. These are not tap dance shoes w/o taps, but they do an excellent job for what the organist needs.

  • @chen0466 Obviously, I didn't know that there is an organ shoe company. Thanks!

  • @loydsheryl I hope it's helpful. My teacher recommended them when I started many years ago, and while I'm no Cameron Carpenter, I'm sure any organist will find this company good to deal with. It's been a while since I invested in a pair of shoes from them, so I hope they still exist.

  • Extremely talented, wonderful musician.

  • He's sexy, and his style is fresh -- very much appreciate what he's doing to breathe life into organ music. Can't wait until he tours in my part of the country.

  • Cameron Carpenter Live in Concert

    Princeton University Chapel

  • Amazing organist!!! WOW

  • That is the most fantastic performance of The Stars and Strips Forever!

You bring a whole new light to that piece with your awesome performance! You are amazing!

  • Oh my...it's like watching Data on the organ! And that was said with the upmost respect and admiration.

  • He's boots aren't gay, they are usefull for organs. 0:59

  • @kasplars

  • @MGordge okay, sorry?

  • whoooa, that footwork is amazing...

  • someone put out the fire. This kid is unreal!!!!

  • What an esthetic, musical, powerful yet graceful virtuoso. B R A V O !!!

  • They are not boots. Shoes made for an organist to use to work the pedals.

  • Diggin' the boots.

  • Thanks to Cameron's hard work and dedication to his craft which brings joy to so

many thousands across the world and internet.

  • i love this guy , but in the uk we'd call him more of a cimema organist , as he plays as lot ot transcriptions and popular pieces rather than the great original works for organ , he's a fine organist though !!!

  • He's got to be gay LOL no straight guy would have so much talent!

  • @Gillyyorkie Oh yes there are ! There are plenty of normal men and woman who have that sort of talent!

  • @Gillyyorkie What total and utter bullshit you homophobic cretin. In my lifettime I have come across many talented Pianist and Organists and none of them are is you put it GAY ! As a matter of grammatical correctness the Oxford Englsih Dictionay defines GAY as being HAPPY now Piss off and grow up

  • Amazing! I have "chillbumps". I thank Mr. Carpenter for bringing excitement to the organ and to all literature.

  • outstanding

  • The is a small cntinuation of my last remark. I was say that our band under the direction of Harry F. Clarke was a gem...we knew why we were marching as we were. "No show-offs", and so we kind of walked rather that high stepped . We were so proud of our band director. I took a few drum lessons from one of Sousa's drummers...Mr. Sauter....again learning how to play without any showmanship at all...just play it RIGHT! He's say. Oh what memories....I was so fortunate!

  • How can anyone deduce that this man is gay? the pants? the shirt? the haircut?

    How? google?

all you homophobes can go suck it!

  • @CrypticWatcher He sits around and plays with "organs" all day. Of course he is gay. Who cares, he is still entertaining.

  • @mareckbamf So you think he is gay . Got any physical proof to substantiate your statement. I dont go on rumours or hearsay. When someone has physical proof then and then only will I accept he is gay. But thats not the point - how many of you people who malign him can produce the music he does ???

  • @steinwaygrande1 He is as gay as you are a dweeb. As I said, who cares, he produces good music. That was the point I was making. Read anything about the guy. He is gay. I don't care, why do you? Especially when judging his musicality.

  • @mareckbamf Ypur idiotic reply doesnt worth commenting on. I have two adult kids and four grandkids and no one in my family is gay and you have no physical evidence to prove that Mr Carpenter is gay or not. Grow up and get a life adn bother to reply as it will be deleted before I get to read it. Cant be bothered wiht troublemakers and childish imbeciles.

  • @mareckbamf agreed

  • Virgil Fox was gay and didn't give a damn who knew. He was one of the finest Organists in the world

  • Muss der in diesem Tuntenfummel auftreten?

  • To all those commenting on or speculating about Cameron's sexuality, he has repeatedly and very openly addressed this in dozens of interviews including in The New York Times, The Guardian, Classical TV, EDGE, and many other broadcasts, publications and blogs. Google "cameron carpenter sexuality" to see what I mean.

Having a discussion that's purely based on speculation is unnecessary in this case, whether you think it matters or not!

  • Stunningly talented! Amazing footwork! I can't even imagine being able to play like that!

I see that a number of people have made negative comments about his possible sexual orientation (which is nobody's business but his!). I don't know if he's gay or not, but if the straight population doesn't want him, I'd be proud to have him playing for my team!

  • wow...that is extremely impressive! Absolutely brilliant job! :D

  • This is brilliant, Mr. Sousa himself would think this was brilliant too.

  • This is brilliant, Mr. Sousa himself would think this was brilliant too

  • Tonight was the fifth time I have tuned it to this video. I'm a Sousa fan, particularly S&SF. Cameron does a brilliant job with it on the great church organ. Feet and fingers flying and doing a wonderful performance. I applaude him for trying, and succeeding. As for his aledged gayness, so what, I don't care, I like him for what he is and that he is using the talents and skills that God gave him to perform wonderfully and to inspire millions more. That's God's plan and command. Thanks! Godspeed

  • my god!!!!! there are so few geniuses who can play like this....so marvelous is he

  • Incredibly

  • Incredibly!!!

  • I hate it when people clap out of tempo

  • Thanks

  • very very very big !

i not want think how many hours did you have study =)

  • He look's like Darth Vader's secret apprentice

  • @seamonkeyfan90 wow yeah he does you're right

  • This guy is just so incredibly fast. In spite of a glitch at about 2:23, he caught it so fast most people probably didn't notice. I cannot imagine playing four+ keyboards at once. He must have at least four brains...

  • I like how everyone tried to clap and were all off tempo and just stopped.

  • @1WFE3 i thought about this the other day, it regularly occurs in pantomimes and such, i think it may be partially to do with the echo set up of the hall maybe there is a delay from when they hear the music till when they clap and then the camera records the claps, i dunno.

  • @hfdpayner Oh yeah, that's a good point too!

  • There is only one word: astounding.

  • Great touch and accuracy!

  • Fantastico!!!

  • If I had half his talent...well I wouldnt be in a dead end job in retail. I'd be anotgher "flammer" Youtube people could talk about.

  • this man is an amazing interpreter ! tks :)

  • So ein guter Organist habe ich noch nie gehört und gesehen. Seine Technik ist fantastisch und er bringt es sehr musikalisch rüber. Bravissimo!! Hut runter. The best Organist forever.

  • wonder where the sheet music is for this?

  • he simply hits the right keys, but there's no music in it.

  • His website does not contain a hyphen. Please rectify the middle part to:

    "cameroncarpenter" instead of "cameron-carpenter"

    Thanks!

  • fantastic...beautiful....SUPER

  • 50 justin bieber and tiwlight fans watched this video and missed the like button.

  • This is godly. Raging clue.

  • if I had words for this, then I would write ..... it I have NOT .... :O

  • The Franz Lizst of the Pipe Organ..!!

  • @MANN5X1 More like the Georges Cziffra ;)

  • The only other feet I've seen move like that are on a tap dancer!
