The pricing of house isn't that big of a concern compared to the amount of deposit that has to be paid, monthly installments, and availability of houses imo.
HDB, nowadays is unaffordable. First time buyer must wait their house for 5 years???? Among that time, where they will live???? or they will rent a flat or room that also not cheap (1 common Room = at least $550/month at a rural area.
If they want to buy resale flat, the cash money must provide at least $100K for COV and DP (for 3 BR). So, This is a problem of all Singaporeans. Some of us (Rich man) will enjoying the rising price of flat, but for median to low class, Suffering !!!!
You see the floodgate open to FT, knowing the demand in housing but fail to built more in earlier years to curb the drastic increase in HDB prices only to come out later to say it was a SURPRISE!!!! Your policy had only benefit the group of FT. They come, buy HDB resale, save up on rental, after 10-15 yrs, they decide to return home, they sale away, they make handsome profit and retired in paradise back home.
I'm a owner, but I think what you MBT is saying is utter nonsense. I would rather you have forseen the problem earlier, set the price lower so that I would have money in my CPF when i reach 55. Now, I have to downgrade to get back my profit so that I can retired!!!!!!! But by then, would I be able make a profit after that!

8,000 limit when the flat cost 180k, 8,000 limit when the flat cost 400k now.

Solutions?
1. Down the price?
2. Raise the ceiling + raise the pay?
3. Keep the whole situation the same. Buy a home in JB.
Keep the value of home high, so everyone is protected:) is as good as saying everyone is as rich as each other, or as poor as each other.
