  • Difficult to learn all those dialects it is best to learn standard japanese

  • Is Standard Japanese considered a dialect of its own, or is it another name for a dialect?

  • Thank you so much for the video. As i hear from some movies, some people use ookini instead of arigatou. Well, actually i have heard of that this is kyoto dialect. I think naturally some regions use different words and grammar than others. What i am curious about is can those different regions understand each other properly and do they know about both standard and regional japanese or they use only one of them?

    Thanks!

  • あなたの英語は上手やな~!私はいつも「もうかりまっか」を使うの(笑)でも、「なんしよん」が知らなかった。ありがと!

  • Ty 4 the lesson. I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS. Should I learn all those different dialects or should I pick the best one that I can pronounce ? ...also, does everyone in Japan understand ANY style of dialect that I may learn? & which one is the most common?...bottom line, which one should we REALLY practice?

  • Lovely Complex. Really wish I could edit my old post... Fat fingered "Send" on the iPad -_-

  • Only anime that I can think of where the main casts mostly (or entirely can't remember) in Kansai-Ben is @

  • sugoi desu

  • Lol Osakas "Moukari makka".. Just add -ra to the end of "makka" word and you get "hammer sausage" in finnish:D

  • Thanks a lot for this! ^_^ I'm going to memorise these now :D

  • Aaaaaaaaaa thx sooo much !!!

  • DIARECTS!

  • this is a really cool video - i especially like when you talk about why the dialect is different because of the ancient merchants....VERY INTERESTING...I LIKE!

  • wow

  • That was very interesting and informative. I am generally a pro-dialect person and also learning Japanese, so videos like this are gold to me.

Osaka-ben and Tohoku-ben are the two dialects that I enjoy to hear (and I don't even understand the Tohoku-ben :P). Sometimes I try to speak in Osaka-ben, using some characteristics of the dialect (like the -hen ending), but I am sure a mix of Standard, Tokyo and Osaka dialect sounds weird to natives, so I use it only when I am alone :D

  • I thought ogenki desuka would be keigo rather than hyoujyungo. would I be mistaken?

  • 鳥取県で関西弁を使ってる?

  • Hey, this was great to find! Thank you for sharing this information. ^^

  • Arigatoo. I will practice "choshi wa doo da".

  • Mou!

    No Kyusyu-ben, Ibaraki-ben, Okinawa-ben...?

  • ... damn I have a lot to learn. I 'm still learning standard Japanese... Does anyone know if they generally use Tokyo dialect in anime?

  • @MidnightEkaki Yes.. in most Japanese anime.. they use Tokyo dialect or "standard Japanese"..whatever you want to call it... very few characters speak Kansai ben. I don't watch alot of anime but I love Bleach :) Gin Ichimaru speaks with a Kyoto dialect and some of the vizards ( Hiyori, Lisa, etc) speak Osaka ben.

  • 面白かった!教えてありがとございます!

  • You know how it differs from district to disctrict, could you say ogenki desuka in all districts, and the other ones ares just native kind of slang terms?

  • The differences you showed us probably exist because of geo-political factors. I'm more curious about differences in pronunciation when it comes to the exact same words.

Next time, how about you choose some words that are the same in all, if not most of the dialects?

  • Thanks for teaching us

  • 方言は難しいですね。(´∀`)

    でも、練習の ありがとう :) あなたの英語はいいですよ。

    「ほなさいなら」が好き!:)

  • sugoi .. dialects ga suki (^,-)

  • i would like to learn Tokyo dialect because its used everywhere in Japan but is this dialect the same as standard japanese language? Like, does it have words that are different from the formal language?

  • yay thank you ! pls. tech us more ^_^ sensei hehe

Whenever I go to Japan I use as much Japanese as possible, but I'm still sort of bad, but if I ever moved there, I would study hard to learn it as good as possible :)
