This Is The Only "COVER" Song That Gus Gossert Ever Played. I Sent Him A Copy Cause He Always Played The Original By Etta James & Harvey Fuqua Which Pales In Comparison. The Group Is Actually, The Knight Riders,Plus Friends,Bruce Bruno From The Orchards at that time, Pearce O'More from The Catalinas and several other sit ins, Butch Testa----btsmusic69---
Billy Vera & the Contrasts are the Knight-Riders aka the Blue-Eyed Soul. They had to use Contrasts because, the pre-Billy Knight-Riders were still under contract to United Artists. "My Heart Cries" was recorded in 1962.
Oh what a great one...much much better than the Etta and Harvey original, even...no big Billy Vera fan, I have to admit, but this is a fantastic track...thanks for posting
Yes thanks for taking the time to answer. The Youtube community is great; connects people in a way I never thought I'd see in our collective lifetimes!
would you know if this song was recorded before the night riders, and in what year ? I remember the guy above billy, in the photo, was the bass player.
What a find. I remember this 45 from the early 60's. I use to catch his group up in Hartsdale, and Port Chester, N.Y. Before he headed west. Any chance someone out there might have a copy of a early release by Billy titled ( The shadow of your love) . I'd love to have a listen. Thanks.
Played with Billy and his group the night riders -they played blue eyed soul my group played english rock at the Deercrest Inn in Banksville N.Y.-also went to high school with Billy Yes Yes My Hear Cries on the Rust label brings back great memories ----dezele

No, what sounds like a female is Bruce Bruno, who made a couple records himself.

Thanks for posting this great song. All the best. Do you think the female backing vocal might be Judy Clay?
