No one can do this song better than Stevie, but I challenge anyone complaining about or criticizing George Michaels version to step up to the plate. Every singer is unique, therefore will never outperform the original artist on any song, and we should not expect them to.

Great tune. But GM is inferior to SW.

For example, breath control. He sings "I don't wanna bore", then has to take another breath straight away, in the middle of the phrase. Then he can't even hit the higher note on "you with it", so just stays on the same note. SW is very old now, and still takes vocal risks.

This is why GM is a legend in his own right, but doesn't have anything like the technique, the musicality, or the soul that SW has.

GM did many Stevie covers, and I think he outsang SW with "They Won't Go When I Go", and this was recorded in 1990 - when Gm was at his best, vocally.

I wouldn't say he sounds better than ever. I didn't see the DVD but saw him live last year. It was amazing. Still I'd say in 1974 SW was better ;P

GM has an entirely different singing style. He emphasis much on certain words and has heavy breathing. He's almost whispering on some songs, like Cowboys & Angels.

Yet he mixes it up with vibrato parts, which is amazing.

Come on - on sheer chart success and sales he is a phenomenon - with like 5 solo studio albums and 2 hits packages he has sales of over 100 million!! theres only a handful who have a 100 million sales - and even fewer with only such limited output! If he had 10 = albums like madonna he would probably have dwarfed her sales or equalled it at the least!!
