@Atisambi The Big Bang theory is a little unbelievable but I'm pretty agnostic about the origin of the universe. Evolution on the other hand, while also a theory, is the closest thing we have ever come to an answer concerning our origin as life-forms. After watching Kent, I have to say, I'm glad he's not my Biology teacher - he'd really annoy me...
@Atisambi But after watching it, a few things - Life only had to begin once. It was a miracle - not a divine miracle but a miracle in the sense that it was outside of the natural laws and it therefore can't be proven to have occured (atm). Macro-evolution hasn't been observed because no-one has been around long enough to observe it! We can however use DNA to map things out. I don't know all the ins and outs of the process but I do believe in results.

The textbooks we use say "it is believed that ...", probably because of religion. (then he would deserve death...)
So God decides the only way I can save my favorite creation is by coming down to earth... sinless as I am... being born as a human... living a totally righteous and holy life (which means he does not deserve death)... and then dying anyway... so now the fact that he died blameless gives Him the authority to allow us to put all of our sins on him (btw... God coming down as man was Jesus)...
so now when we sin if we allow Jesus to take our sins then the sins will be paid for and we will once again be holy... so whenever we sin now we can just ask Jesus to put that on his bill... you feel me!

I did not like that pat of her but I did love her for her devotion to me. And she died anyway by the hands of lousy doctor who did a lousy job, not an imaginary being. Pre-Rome crucifixions were used by Persians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Macedonians. @janaoo4 i.e. the prophet Isaiah who's ministry was around 700 BC predicted the coming of Christ, and the prophet Micah around 740 BC and Zechariah around 520 BC (All predicted pretty accurately the events of his life... down to the amount that would be paid for his death)...
Then quite a number of them decided to go and just to make it seem realistic decided to tell people about this guy no matter what happened... so basically they decided to go and suffer and die in the most gruelsome ways (i.e. Peter the apostle being crusified upside down...) , instead of living their perfectly normal lives!

If this is your argument for variability, then I guess people from other religions could claim the same thing. But The whole Joseph Smith and the Later Day Saints thing doesn't make sense... it is totally contrary to the words in the Bible, and doesn't make any sense what so ever when put in contrast with the words of prophets the disciples and even Jesus. The bible actually even warns of false prophets and tells people to always check what these people are saying and compare it to the words in the Bible (Well the Torah and the books of the prophets).
And besides, the disciples were preaching against slavery and against keeping women under oppression and they were promoting women's rights (if you really look into it) so they had nothing to gain from this... not even money! You are right in everything you said. Humans have made/invented tons of great stuff including planes and electricity. And for sure the world wasn't created 6,000 years ago, or in six days, it is ridiculous to believe that. But it would be equally ridiculous to believe the universe could be created from nothing. And two, if he was conceived by a divine being, Mary seems pretty surprised so... God raped her? In his Godly way of course. Even glancing over that than just nodding our heads... Evolution on the other hand, while also a theory, is the closest thing we have ever come to an answer concerning our origin as life-forms. After watching Kent, I have to say, I'm glad he's not my Biology teacher - he'd really annoy me...

@Atisambi But after watching it, a few things - Life only had to begin once. It was a miracle - not a divine miracle but a miracle in the sense that it was outside of the natural laws and it therefore can't be proven to have occured (atm). Macro-evolution hasn't been observed because no-one has been around long enough to observe it! We can however use DNA to map things out. I don't know all the ins and outs of the process but I do believe in results.

The textbooks we use say "it is believed that ...", probably because of religion. Sounds like your (the world's) imaginary being is a rather hateful one. For my girlfriend was one of those CHRISTIANS and a rather head up her ass one at that. I did not like that pat of her but I did love her for her devotion to me. And she died anyway by the hands of lousy doctor who did a lousy job, not an imaginary being. Actually if you do your homework you would know that while crucifixion was known to be practiced by the Romans, it did not originate with them. Pre-Rome crucifixions were used by Persians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Macedonians. In addition, John the Baptist did not start baptism, that was apart of Jewish tradition before him. What he started was immersion baptism in "living water" or eventually any moving body of water. That is why he baptized people in the river Jordan. One must remember that Baptism is not something that solely belongs to Christianity, but to other cultures as well, it's origin is Greek form the word baptismos ie) Ritual washing.

I understand where your coming from, and he did revolutionize the tradition, but history shows us that he didn't start it. Baptism is a ritual washing even in Greek, one must understand root words, just like many Muslims believe that Islam means peace because of the root word, however it actually means submit, the root word can also be translated to tanning leather.

Not a web page unfortunately, It's a book, you'll have to go to a library, and it won't even be the original. It's called the Egyptian Book of the Dead, Chapter 97. Horus was purified in the lake propitiation and of equipoise, he dives into the lakes from what I remember reading. As for the rest, I don't even really understand what you are saying, people made a prediction about a savior coming to free them, there have been many people claiming to be this savior. Peter said he wanted to be crucified upside down, because he didn't deserve to die in the same way Jesus did. If this is your argument for variability, then I guess people from other religions could claim the same thing. And do remember that the story of Jesus was written well over a decade after his supposed death, by one of his own, and then over a century later by the Romans, well after Christianity had made it's mark. I don't trust the accuracy of stories, and dialog that are delayed.

Again, other religions could state the same things could they not? Do you believe what Joseph Smith had to say? Are you a Mormon? They risked punishment, and even death for their religion, does that make it true? What about Muslims? If Muhammad was discovered to be a fraud wouldn't he have been killed? That's true! But The whole Joseph Smith and the Later Day Saints thing doesn't make sense... it is totally contrary to the words in the Bible, and doesn't make any sense what so ever when put in contrast with the words of prophets the disciples and even Jesus. The bible actually even warns of false prophets and tells people to always check what these people are saying and compare it to the words in the Bible (Well the Torah and the books of the prophets).

But even so, even if the Egyptian empire predates crucifixion as a common punishment for people, it doesn't change the fact that Horus was crucified on the equinox in versions of his story. One must remember that because the story of Horus is so old, there are multiple versions of it, there are even multiple versions of his birth, but they all predate Christianity, and that is the point. Thing is, Christianity is infamous for absorbing the stories and traditions of other religions.

What are you talking about, there are plenty of people driving cars, that have never opened up the hood. And it's possible to discover the car designer independently of discovering how the the car parts work.
You could successfully argue the line of shoehorning God into science, when you talk about any one particular religion, but as for God himself, creation is the proof of the existence of God, just as the car is the proof of a car designer.
