@BrokeStringGuitarist In the context of performance - doesn't matter, since quads are converted to tris in the game engine anyway. So model in quads (modeling in only tris would be hectic), but don't be afraid to use tris where it's effective to do so, or will result in a lower tricount.
please, take a look at my channel and rate my video. I made a face animation with blender. I modelled the character in a professional way. (Not out of a cube, like most people do.) Thanks! :)
p.s. don't hate on me for making advertise on other video's pages please.
@plyczkowski There's nothing unprofessional about any technique you use as long as it produces good results and is efficient. I used to make entire models out of nothing but cubes.
@Insideviewanimator I watched your video and i saw your model so i have 1 question. Is that what you call Professional? I didn't mean you are suck, but you should take more practises.
forgive me sir, if this comment hurt your feeling.
@KearoNasanam I first modeled the unclothed body, and then modeled clothes. But modeling clothes without a body, or with some basic body model, should be also ok.
well, thats definatly not low poly, ahaa our mod keeps the poly count 400-, but anyways very nice character. if you made those textures its very professional. good job.
@Ryscale I know your comment is nine months old but if you have access to photohsop gimp or corell painter, google how to make (insert texture you are looking for) and the name of the software and you can normally find some good tutorials on it. i did that all the way through my associates degree. Sand, fur, and different types of fabric really isnt that hard to make once you do it a couple of times.
@plyczkowski Totally right. In next gen terms, 'low res character' means that it uses 12k-16k polygons (8000 for body, 4000 for head). The 'hires character' is the version used to render normal maps and it usually has over 1 million polys.

If that's the sort of thing that can be done with low poly modeling in Blender, why bother with the super-detailed high poly models I see people doing? Also, is this only a hobby for you, or do you get paid to do this? If not, it's a shame. You've got talent.
This is really good Its looks really detailed but i think that the textures might need more work, the skin for example looks too soft like some kind of rubber but the clothes/armor looks amazing
People saying how is it low poly what people are missing is Its been z brushed so it hasn't gained polys it's just been sculpted and textured still good work tho
Wow, this gives me hope as an aspiring indie game artist. Beautiful work of art! :) I'm a MAX native personally. I found Blender's interface a bit intimidating, but was considering trying it again because it seems like such a fascinating (not to mention cost-effective! LOL) alternative! I noticed you mentioned preferring it over 3D Studio MAX in another comment...would you mind telling me why? I'm really curious about its strong-points over MAX :) Thanks! ^_^
If you want to start with Blender, wait about 30 days more - there is a 2.5 version coming our way with quite a rearrangement of interface and controls, also much better mesh editing.
The main strong point over max is that it is free. Also it is frequently updated.
An advantage for me is that it is hotkey oriented - speeds things up.
But to be honest, max is one of the best, and in many ways Blender can't compete.
Can you also model things like plants, trees, food(bottles, medicine bottles etc.) weapons and so on? Also texturing?
I'm making small mods in a game called Fallout 3, it use .nif files for models, and .dds for textures. I think it's possible to make them in blender too.
But since i'm awfull to modelling and texturing, i can only borrow models/textures from other people, maybe if you wan't it would be awesome if you could help me.
Thanks. The steps are: highpoly sculpt, retopo, normal mapping, ao baking, using nodes to create materials, using photoshop to create textures, gsls in the viewport.
mmm.... maybe you spoke chinese to me lol..... you sure that was made in Blender? lol cos i never heard of baking and gsls. and damn im not that good using photoshop
you're pretty good with different kinds of materials
