Hi Dr. Shoskes, as far as I recall, you have only one video of a Bach piece, the capriccio (for the departure of a beloved brother) which is very, very nice. I'm currently using that video as a guide for preparing my own archlute version. Please, reconsider doing some more Bach !

@10stringGuitarist Thanks for the kind words. I have also done a Largo from a violin sonata on lute recently. As I mentioned before though, Bach on the lute is really not my first love. Too much Weiss, Reusner and Lauffensteiner to get through first!

Ok it might be for Lautenwerk but still it is a fantastic piece for lute especially in the hands of a Maestro as Kidneyukutter.

Those bass lines always give me chicken skin!

To be honest, I'm not that interested in playing Bach on the baroque lute. It's great music, but in reality written for the keyboard. Maybe after I've mastered all of Weiss (!!). In the meantime I'll leave the technical pyrotechnics to Richard.

I know that bwv 995 is the only suite that was originally written for lute and not for lautenwerk is it correct??

Dear Kidneykutter,

I think some of Bach's 'lute-works' are indeed for keyboard -eg 996, and in 998. However I think 995 clearly was intended for lute and the fact that its difficult simply gave rise to the somewhat free intabulation. 997 clearly attracted lutenists in the 18th century and 1006 works on lute. This is I think the main point - if it can be played on lute, why not? And this seems to be the 18th century lutenists' view as well. This propensity towards classifcation is so 20th C!

I only say this because, having viewed much of your excellent lute playing, I think you'd easily be capable of approaching some, if not all of the movements of 1006, which I think is probably the best 'my first Bach suite'!
