The "Marines" shown are actors. The above film clip is from the movie Hamburger Hill. In Vietnam "fire supremacy was paramount. The objective was to suppress the enemy fire of an ambush to allow for maneuver. It should be noted that the .225 M-16 round could be deflected by vegetation. Bringing up the "pigs" M60s was much more effective although they became the target of choice for RPGs. I was in the U.S. Army and can attest that the U.S. Marines were never "lame." A Vietnam Vet.
