@Egilkassin A very interesting video my friend. It's an apt reminder that scientific knowledge is never static and is constantly challenging that what we hold to be true. Thanks for taking the time to read my commentary and for making your contribution.
@LexNao Thank you. We are surrounded by pulsating energy in vast emptiness. Yet our minds have evolved to perceive this as a material world & label everything as good or bad. Yet material objects are only perceptions of mind, with no reality outside the mind. Since language has come from mind, all religions have struggled to explain something that exists beyond the mind. So all religions use metaphors to explain that which is beyond language. Meditation is the best way to see beyond the mind.
@natmanprime When you say that "gravity is a network of fate" is this implied as a fatalism? In other words, is everything predetermined. If so, this is the view espoused by Michael Hoffman's ego death theory and the central insight of eastern religion and philosophy. The realization that that free will is an illusion, and therefore the ego doesn't really choose, but only has the illusion of choice. This is what is meant by "akarma" or "there is no self." It's called "nondoership" in Hinduism.
@Hanahleia wow thanks for replying...you reminded me of that stuff i said...i'm learning all the time, so this is where i'm at the moment...
yes free will's an illusion, BUT...
...it's more real than any other reality.
So the reality is, you're free.
But Reality isn't the same as Truth, of course.
I'm not a fatalist.
Ego is important, but it's a force that must be used wisely, and only you can know when, like a flower opening and closing, so it is with the mind, everyone has their own frequency.
@PattyGilMo It was tact onto the end of a podcast I downloaded for free at iTunes. Alan Watts' son releases a free 10 minute podcast every week. Check it out.
@PattyGilMo This audio was a tiny snippet attached onto the end of a much longer podcast. What I've used here was the entire segment. I'm sorry I can't be more specific my friend, as I'm currently travelling in another country for the next few month and don't have access to all my digital resources. Namaste.
@mikevern69 It's only frightening because it's a Truth that has been concealed from us, all our lives. But this is how it has always been and everything has been reasonably fine up until now? So now we know the Truth, things can only get better. A good start is to come to the realisation that all separateness is an illusion. From this understanding can only come peace and world wide harmony.
@yinyangnature reasonable for whom......i for one am surrounded by self serving people and wonder at them because im not sure any know what they are doing, how do you tell older generations who have been indoctrinated into a system that isnt real life they would think you mad, a word used in my opinion to stop people thinking about anything else than what you are told....
@mikevern69 Unfortunately we are all surrounded by people who are fully indoctrinated into the illusion. Have you seen the Zeitgeist movie? Maybe you would like to join us and help create a critical mass movement for change. The more people we educate the more likely things will change for the better.
@patrickledford420 Indeed. We say the sky is blue, yet this is just the colour our eyes have assigned the that particular frequency of light. If we were blind the sky would have no colour at all. It's clear that all our experiences of life are merely the interpretation of our sensory inputs and it is highly arrogant of us to believe this very limited perception is fundamental reality.
@patrickledford420 As Watts alluded to in this clip "There are outside the eyes, quanta-electronic phenomena". Science knows this from its study of quantum physics, where all our everyday rules brake down. From this it seems we all live on a membrane of pulsating energy that is beyond our sensory awareness. Nevertheless there are survival benefits in seeing things as we do, yet this is not how things truly are. Watching the movie "The Matrix" may be helpful in expanding these concepts further.
@yinyangnature kinda the way that we evolved to see rocks as solid but they are really 99% empty space but seeing them as they really are would do us no good

William Blake ( a magnificent man, artist, poet and shaman) said
"If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thru chinks of his cavern. "
A TINY amount of the population awake before death. And with Each individual awakening, comes a different amount of awakening experienced.
BUT, what we become awakened to, either at death or for the FEW that happen upon it while alive is "Emotion" as a tangible, Needed, Extremely Valuable portion of reality.
I believe emotion is MUCH more real than the things that most humans consider "Real".
Love, is "of the MOST valuable portions" of reality!
The "MOVIE" (This life) that we experience is a VERY small and Minute experience of what reality "IS".
In the same way dogs hear a wider range of sound than humans, humans experience such a small portion of Reality (If you want to call it "Reality" at all.)
I believe that MOST of Reality is missing and that what we experience is a TINY fragment of reality,...now.
ONLY when we die, do we become ALIVE to knowing MORE than we do now.
I don't think Alan has it completely right. The brain itself is nothing more than a projection. Everything is a projection. You can't actually say phenomena are projections of other phenomena, because ultimately all phenomena, including even the brain, are projections. All of life is a movie, so where is the projector??? Not in the brain, because the brain is part of the movie as well. This can be a very difficult concept to understand. But, logically, it is correct.
Im sure Alan Watts would agree with you my friend, as do I. Nevertheless it is about introducing the idea very slowly, one level at a time. Its like how we were all introduced to the atom in chemistry as a miniature solar system; yet the chemistry teacher knew full well the atom wasnt anything like this. However, since quantum theory is beyond all description, to tell a student otherwise would only cause confusion.
I recall hearing; I think it is a Mahayana Buddhist sutra, that reality was a metaphorical jewel encrusted crystal palace. Yet each crystal palace was surrounded by thousands of other crystal palaces, each reflecting all the others. One could only imagine how blinding a sight such as this would be, especially in full sun light.
@stevnricke I've already made my point. If you read "yinyangnature" 2 follow-up posts to my comments, he does an excellent job of defending and expanding on Alan Watts' position, without trying to tear down the points I was making.
@TDP788 I agree. It does seem that the the brain is the tool or receiver that projects. But ultimately this is just an inference based on our observations. If we lived in a video game, and we could look at our video game brains, we might say "Oh, there's my brain. It's the projector of the world." But the real projector of the video game are Those who program the game. The characters in this video game world will never have comprehension of this, no matter how hard they try.
@rog944 He never said the "brain" wasn't a projection or a phenomena. In fact he never used the word "brain". What he means is that this illusion that we call physical existence is a product of the mind and our nervous system (including Brain) is simply a filter by which our physical bodies arrange and process the non physical information we (Our Minds) produce... Therefore we are the projector and the projected all at once.. :)
@rog944 hmm.. I am a bit confused on what you are saying.. it is the light that bounces off an object that our brain perceives.. our brains are projections? In what way? Sorry please clarify I am a bit confused.
@verifymyageful It's not an easy question to answer, unfortunately. But, I'll try. What I'm trying to say though, is that our brains have no more basis in reality, than anything else we know about it. EVERYTHING we know about is a projection. But, where is the brain projected? In the brain? It's an endless loop. There's a flaw in the reasoning. But, I'm not trying to discredit Alan Watts, though. He is a brilliant man, and this video does make you think about the nature of "reality"
@rog944 oh I understand your meaning, i just wasn't sure what you meant by projection, a sort of nothing exists independently sort of thing you mean? And nothing actually exists without us perceiving it and we don't exist without anything to perceive? I am sure those are truths but I am not sure if thats what you are trying to say.
@verifymyageful I basically agree with what you are saying. Sometimes philosophical ideas can be difficult to discuss in every day terms. I'm using the term "projection" here to refer to any sort of physical phenomena in the visual universe. I do agree that not only does the tree not make a sound in the forest if you are not there; there is no unperceived tree and there is no unperceived forrest, other than the ideas one has in his head about them.
Yes and a very Happy New Year to you on the other side of the world. One of the most important things for me in 2009 was happening upon your profile and your choice of videos.
2010 will be an interesting year for us all. As the chinese say "may you live in interesting times"
Perception is, on an individual level, reality. Each of us is within ourselves a separate reality, as no two perceptions can be exactly alike, and our understanding of one another, perforce, can never be perfect. =^[.]^=
Certainly my friend. Yet by understanding all distinctions have an illusionary aspect and becoming sensitive to the perceptions of others; mankind now has all the knowledge required to overcome all hostility and unite.
No doubt this is why Einstein was such a great advocate for world peace. It must have been so frustrating for him to see his own species so easily manipulated by selfish desire and fear.
I wonder if the practice of meditation offers us all the chance to view reality from the same clear perspective (free of desires and fears)?
.........................................
I think this knowledge you share with us must be combined with a genuine longing for peace before it becomes useful as a means for generating harmony.
Unfortunately many seek knowledge for personal advantage rather than the liberation of all beings. However the truly wise recognise peace can only be obtained if our entire species is free from unnecessary suffering.
Otherwise we will be like one of those powerful nations that wins every war but can never relax as it is constantly under attack. This is not a victory anyone would want for their children.
Therefore we need a mindset intent in winning peace, rather than winning conflicts.
I absolutely love your commentary on it. Especially describing Watts' analogy of the electirc fan, and your last paragraph about how we can use this information to generate positivity for all.

Firstly, thank you for the videos.
I am unsure if someone may already have asked this...
if reality is perception and for it to become "positive", the same would be needed to be projected > like equals like:
So my question, if this is, how then is there order in reality, or is this 'experience', lack thereof?
Is this why there are more than one Buddhist doctrine? For, I alone may make a difference, but in unison we change the universe?

ok, very nice all of it, the description and all, but:
time and light, space and solidity are not electromagnetic phenomena, but strong and weak nuclear forces respectively.
the perception and interpretation of all that into human information is electromagnetic force, brain activity, conception, nervous system.
gravity is the network of fate that caused the emergence of all this complexity in the first/last place.
Putting everyone in their place.

Love is Powerful, Love is blinding, Love is Sacred!
The Love that I am talking about is felt by ALL portions of the body and the inner being.
You feel it in your head. You feel it in your belly (The Dan Tien) and in your heart.
ALL emotions effect the body in a real positive or negative way, but Love is the Positive CORE of ALL other positive emotions.
Fear, on the other hand is the CORE of all other negative emotions.
Fear can be overcome by Love (Love for Human kind).
