The settings in this video are on "insane", meaning forest growth, among others, is insanely fast. They are set as such so that they could specifically and decently showcase this mod in a video. Though you can set them to "insane" when you use this mod yourself, you can set it to the more desirable slower speeds if you wish. :)

The growth in the latest version of the mod (for beta 1.8.1.) is biome-based. Meaning forests won't grow beyond forest biomes, and wild grass won't populate just as much outside shrubland biomes, and so on. Seems fair enough.

And speaking of forests, the mushroom biome also has its own special feature with the mod. Huge mushrooms spread in the biome, so basically you can have mushroom "forests" provided that huge mushrooms have populated most of the biome. XD

@unowild I use both(Along with a few other mods) and they work great together. During the winter, it is nearly impossible for trees to spread. Luckily, spring gets a bonus in tree growth because the seasons mod automatically plants some samplings so that combined with this gives a boost during spring. The rest of the year is just nature overhaul after that

... but you can't hide the block/item icons, so you'll have to empty your hotbar if you don't want that showing up.

@WittyUsername816 Open up your minecraft file (or texture pack if you're using one) and navigate into the GUI folder. Find the parts you want to erase, extract them to your desktop (or folder of your choice) and erase what you want with a program like Gimp, or Photoshop

@Baleur That was a mod than basically added the snow effects and ice freezing that are in the game today. It has been removed from the mod now because it's already in the game.

I did some tests with everything on insane, here's what I got.

Pumpkins spread around just fine.

Flowers did nothing.

Saplings died almost instantly, and if they ever did turn into a tree, the tree dies without shooting saplings everywhere like in the video, so trees fail to spread.

Trees do not drop cocoa beans.

I've checked all the options more then once, and tried many biomes, even a flat map.

Any help?

@shortly1 It won't rain or snow all the time in snow biomes/other biomes, if you noticed in the video the rain and snow went off and on randomly, and in the description (On youtube), it said that the rain and snow was way more common than it will be in game, for testing purposes. You are going to have to either: Explore for miles to find it/be patient and wait for it in your biome. I believe some biomes rain more often than others.

@shortly1 If I know what you mean by wolf bugs, yes they were fixed. Wolves can now go through doors, their health is synched with servers now, meaning they won't whimper anymore unless at low health in servers, however the bug of if you have a single wolf, it will rarely turn into a wild wolf on log off has been added. The wiki says you can fix this by taming more than one wolf.
