  • Boy that's a good looking mushroom.

  • I want to be friends with hickok45!

  • The best Glock upgrade is a Sig...

  • so you got this at gander mt in ky, i live in ky and i never buy ammo there, everything is marked up 20 percent at least. a box of 000 buck fer my 410 was 15 bucks at sherwoods guns, gm had em fer $19.50. nice tests, helps alot.

  • 1911 colt is better

  • Excellent Test........

  • Could you test a Glock in .45 GAP. Interested in seeing the performance .

  • So...it would kill me right?

  • OUTSTANDING RESULTS. I AM SWITCHING TO GOLD.DOT. SPEER. I AM A US SOLDIER STATIONED IN FORT HOOD TX. AND HOPEFULLY I CAN FIND THIS AMMO.. THANKS ALOT MY FRIEND.. P.S. ONE OF MY DREAMS IF TO HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO GO VISIT, AND SHOOT WITH THE MAN OF YOUTUBE " HICKOK45.. IF HE WOULD EVER ALLOW A US VET. THAT GREAT OPPORTUNITY. I AM A GLOCK MAN. AND HICKOK45 HAS DONE SO MUCH AS FAR AS PUTTING GLOCK ON THE MAP.. GREAT VIDEO SIR. AND KEEP THEM COMING. YOU MAY BE THE NEXT HICKOK45.. US SOLDIER OUT!!!!

  • HEY SIR YOU ARE LUCKY TO KNOW MY MR. HICKOK45, I AM A REAL GOOD FAN OF HIS.. YOUR VIDEO IS WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I OWNED THE GLOCK 21 SF 45.CAL, AND I HAVE SEVERAL TYPES OF SELF DEFENSE AMMO. FEDERAL PREMIUM HYDRA-SHOCK, GOLDEN SABER, & CRITICAL DEFENSE BY HORNADY. I NEVER LIKE THE WAY THE GOLD DOT BULLETS LOOKED, THEY HAD A CHEAP LOOKING APPEARANCE, COMPARED TO OTHER TYPES OF AMMO. BUT THATS WHEN I WAS NOT DOING MY RESEARCH. SO THANKS TO YOU SIR. I WILL BE SWITCHING TO THE GOLD.DOT!!

  • @ABorell12 I packed a 45 for many years and shot lots of different bullets. I prefer 230 grainers, they tend to be more consistent and accurate. My favorite load was the Winchester SXT Ranger load + P, followed by the 230 gr Hydra-shock. The 185 grainers were impressive in muzzle flash and blast but they weren't so accurate. 200 grainers were also good, they tended to be better than the 185 grainers. Use what cycles well in your gun, and what you feel confident with.

  • Great video, just found your channel and sub'd. I shot low & left with my new XDm .45ACP right off 1st mag, changed grip to thumbs forward and my shooting went spot on.

  • @tnoutdoors9 What is your opinion on putting a 230gr FMJ in the chamber, and then filling the mag with these, or Hydra Shoks or similar. Some people say it's best to do that in case you're forced to take your first shot through a car door or something? They reason that the FMJ has a better chance of getting through that in decent condition than a JHP.

  • tnoutdoors,

I really enjoy your testing videos, and thank you for taking the time do do them and share them here. Have you ever considered testing the ASYM 185 grain JHP +P bullets? I've heard that they are outstanding in every way, and work wonderfully in short-barreled pistols, too, like my Colt OMLW. I know they are somewhat expensive, but I'd appreciate you testing them, if you have any inclination to do so. Keep up the good work, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,

    Doc

  • Nothing beats gold dots... fact...

  • i wish u shot fmj at same time one right after each other ....good vid and thank u

  • Nice. This is one of my combos (G30 + SGD 230gr) & it looks like it's got quite a bite :)

  • I don't get why it peels back. Can anyone explain it to me?

  • @Froggdude000

The momentum is still at the back end of the bullet, so when the pressure builds out, the bullet begins to mushroom and "peel back" because the rear of the bullet is still pushing forward as the serrated sections are dragged behind the pressure.

  • um not knocking your test i enjoy the videos u do and others simliar like yours my question why denium, heres my point 1 this is not the 80s people whereing denium jackets 2 why not 1 layer of t shirt or hoodie that bad guys like to where inless u are tring to shoot someone in the leg denium makes nosesene i shoot for center mass most bad guys from watching videos and u tube are usally whering a t shirt or hoodie,in my opinion that would make for more realistic test but still great videos.

  • @hurley242584 It's because if you wear a layer of denim, the tissue can clog the hollow space in the bullet. That doesn't happen with regular shirts and hoodies.

  • @hurley242584 Denim can clog the hollow point, while softer clothes won't. It's just to experiment with variables, denim is used in many tests.

  • could someone tell me what a bonded bullet is?

  • interesting i wonder if you could shoot these types of 45 acp out of a thompson m1a1.

  • @mexiluvsw me too

  • Is this one the "flying ashtray?"

  • Lol as soon as i saw the talon grip i was like "hmm, maybe he borrowed it from hickock45."

  • wanna see this round go through the denium then bone and see how it looks b.c this one looked damn good!

  • 2:42 to watch the bullet roll off the table :-)

  • @Babuschka1991 in my state to go through the academy you need a .40 or .45. a person with small hands can get cleared to use a 9mm.

  • @Babuschka1991 I think a lot of police here in the US are carrying .40 S&W (correct me if I'm wrong everyone)

  • that's some nasty round

  • Can you do this again with that new ballistic gel?

  • If these are designed for short barreled pistols would it make a difference to fire them out of full sized guns like a hipoint?

  • looks like there out for blood

  • The human body is only 8 to 12 inches thick, front to back. This round finally expanded after 16 inches of wet pack. So what have we proved here? Since we want the bullet to stay INSIDE the attacker's body for maximum knock-down power, what the test seems to have shown is that we can't afford to trust our lives to this ammo!

  • @frogrfb Water and milk jugs are a little different from a human body. A more accurate test would be to shoot a pig, or a side of beef.

  • @DarkSeraph351 Well, I think I'll try a box of these after what I encountered at the range last week. I have a Glock 23 and a Sig 229 that both shoot .40S&W. I was trying out a box of .40 Cor-Bon's, which come highly recommended for personal/police defense. My Sig ate 'em up with no problems in rapid fire mode but my Glock had 2 jams in a clip of 10! In a fire fight with my Glock full of Cor Bons I'd be dead meat! If the Glock 19 loves Speer Gold Dots, maybe my Glock 23 will too!

  • lol u got it from hickok, no wonder the sandpaper on the handle looks so familiar.

  • 200 yard accuracy with a glock 30? why would you want to shoot over 25 meters with it anyway? its a self defense gun, not a precision shooter

  • Beautiful....I carry these in my Para LTC .45.

  • I love the GDHP for a carry round. Currently my round of choice for 9mm, 40cal, and 45ACP. I had been having trouble finding the 230gr GDHP, all my online sources and local shops were out, but today I found them at Walmart for $24.97 a box.

  • Glad I went with the 230gr GDHP and not the PDX1 I only use 230gr and this looks like a winner. I would like to see the Federal 230gr HST +P I think it would do well. Also would you consider selling some expanded bullets or if I mail you some ammo will you expand it for me It might sound weird but I like to collect different ammo and it would be cool to add some expanded ammo to it.

  • is that Hickok45's Glock 30?!

  • Great to hear you on Hickok45's Radio Show #5!

    Keep on keepin' on TN!

  • I'm glad you did these Gold Dot tests. This is my favorite defense round in my 1911s.

  • I had a feeling that was Hickok's Glock :)

  • I'm curious about the approximate weight of each jug and it's contents as I'm trying to determine which route to take in a choice of ammo. Also, thanks for taking the time and expense of documenting the various types of ammunition.

  • Good review! A fine upload.

  • @ABorell12

Even though I don't currently own a .45, I would probably be a traditional 230 grain guy. The HST, Ranger, or Gold Dot would be in the top tier, along with Golden Saber.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Same here just purchased some of these 230gr Gold Dots $21.99 for a box of 20.

  • i think wold be awesome i fyou do a .500 Magnum :D

  • We're up to 18 'thumbs up' on the photo montage I suggested earlier!! Keep it up and TN will hook us up!!

  • @AKMoffat

The ballistic screensaver nerds have spoken! This is a good project for when the weather gets crappy and I'm limited on outdoor opportunities. In fact, a realistic target might be December 2010, which would give us approx. 18 months of ammo tests. I'll be getting the musc soundtrack from YouTube's AudioSwap, so yours (and my) preferences for Kansas, Aerosmith, Boston, Extreme, No Doubt, Finger Eleven, etc. won't happen. But I think it needs to be FAST PACED.

  • nice expansion. definitely an asshole's worst nightmare. i'll definitely pick up a box this week for my 1911. great reviews man!

  • How do they feed in a 1911?

  • 23966 is the lot#

  • can you test .45 gold dot 200gr +P?

  • nice flower

  • Are you going to do a test with the 200gr +p 45acp gold dot?

  • @operator81

Probably at some point. My .45 testing will be sporadic, since for the moment I need to borrow a gun. If all goes well, I hope to acquire a .45 within the next month or so.

  • Good test compared to the FBI ballistic test of this round you where pretty dead on. FBI had 13.2" penetration and .74" of expansion. Good job. this seems to be the second best round in.45 next to Federal hydrashoks. i wonder how well this shoots through a 1911.

  • @Gspsx can you buy the hydashocks and were for the .45 acp

  • @impleasen You can get them at your big box sporting good stores like gander mountain, sportsman warehouse, ect.. Your best bet would be to find them online. every one is out of the .45s just back order some and wait to get it. Cabelas took 2 weeks to send me mine.

  • Man that is one nasty JHP. I'm getting a 1911 for personal and home defense (soon as I get the money) and I was wondering what, in your experience, seems to be the optimum .45 self-defense ammunition. I'm looking for something that penetrates about a foot and mushrooms out kinda like the ammo you tested in this video. Thank you for your opinions and for your videos.

  • @trumpetdood

In that case you probably want something lighter, 200 grains, etc. Optimum has various meanings for everyone. Some want limited penetration for a slug that size, others expect 15-17" of penetration and .75 or greater in expansion. Much like the 9mm and .40 I've been testing for months, I'm certain we will develop an information repository over the next few months. .45 testing is new ground for me.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Thank you very much. I greatly appreciate it.

  • @trumpetdood Keep in mind the 1911 was designed for 230 gr. bullets. The smaller the grain, the less room for the bullet to grab the inside of the barrel. Some 1911s prefer some HPs over others, but as long as you stay in the 230gr. range it should be fine (assuming modern barrel design.)

  • wow what death grip on the 3 shot...is ur thumb locked in the trigger guard...nice vid has usual....this round may be a keeper

  • @phishst1cks

No, it's not locked in the trigger guard; camera angle illusion. But yes, I was gripped on the G30...it's a little short for me, more difficult to control.

  • Great video as usual!

  • You've done so many tests now, it would be really awesome to see a quick 'photo collage' of all the tests with text on what they were. Just a quick reference for folks....just an idea...

  • @AKMoffat

GOOD IDEA. How about a thumbs up on AKMoffat's suggestion if you agree? I could run a photo montage with specs and background music. Would make a great screensaver for ballistic nerds!

  • @AKMoffat great idea. tumbs up from me

  • What would you choose between Speer and Winchester PDX ? I have the PDX but it was like $20 for 20 rounds, just curious if Speer is supposed to be that much more better for the extra bones it costs..

  • @mixwell1983

Will give you some insight when I post the PDX1 230 gr test later this week!

  • @tnoutdoors9 - Can't wait !! THE PDX1 230g is currently what I'm running in mine and I would love to see the results although once I get my G22 that will replace my 1911 as a home defense weapon more than likely !!

  • Only type of HP I carry in my CC .45 and .40 amazing expansion!

  • that is one mean hollow point and perfect expAnsion, intruders BEWARE!!!

  • Outstanding! Kudos to you & Hickok45 for making this test a reality.

  • very nice

  • what exactly does the hollow point do?

  • @Mo7Vsta . exactly what you saw , the cavity fills with your target , and due to the sudden slowing of velocity and the impact , the pedals peel back and it makes for more surface area, causing more damage . a std bullet will only pancake to this extreme if it hits metal since people arent made of metal , this is just an inventive way to do more damage to the recipient .

  • @Mo7Vsta, I think that's what he just demonstrated. :-)

  • @2:45 it looks like those jugs were filled with sweet tea even though its not

  • lol in short this will blow a hole in shit

  • Testing .45s, YES!

    Thank you sir.

  • Now I see why the Gold Dot ammo is so popular. A bit expecive, but worth it with results like that.

  • toss it in a lake for a few weeks before returning the gun, hah

  • @lexmark136 I bet it would still work well knowing Glocks, lol.

  • With a Glock, maybe a guest shot with Hicock45.

  • It performed just like the Speer Gold Dot 124gr 9mm, but with the 9 you can carry more ammo:) These tests just confirm that the Glock 19 is the way to go.

    Thanks

  • Another great vid, thanks for making it.

  • my carry round is the winchester xtp bonded jhp how would you compare speer gold dot with it?

  • I doubt you would ever shoot poorly, tnoutdoors9...good one :)) Another excellent ballistics test. Thanks for the post!

  • I was going to say, I didn't realise you too were into those Talon grips. Nicely lent

  • good result, thanks for making

  • Excellent Video,Thank you

  • Very nice video
