Glad to see Omar progressing to compositions with a beat. His Father the great Mounir was a personal friend of mine, and I once lunched with Omar and his Mother Om Saad at my Aunts.
Greats such as Jamil and Mounir Bashir and their offshoot Omar, Nassir Shamma and others influenced by the school of Sherif Muhyiddine Haydar have exhausted Taqassim (improvisations)...time Arabs moved on to compositions and anything WITH A BEAT... way to go Omar
He is indeed atractive. But it is bizar to play just with one hand. Whad does he want? To show off or to play normal oud. Get a riq player and use your right hand for risha.
pfffff vraiment tbarkallah 3lik wa3er jab style dyalo surtout la teknik s3iba hit cerveau kaytkassam percusion avec la main droite et solo avec la main gauche ... tous sa sans faut baaaaaaaaaaaaaz m3allam
That man is very very great, I met him yesteday in the Internaion festival of Lute/Oud in Tetouan, and he played like and angel from heaven :D luv him
The technique is old and is called "basm" used in many qaflas in old style inprovization. i don't mean to take credit away from Naseer, but Mohammed Zinelabidine from Tunisia used it, and so did many others. Naseer gave it a name and even a political dimension, and added to it the plucking and pulling part on the strings.
I don't agree with Klanneljack, I don't think that Professor Mamouni has said that this technique belongs to him or is due to him. Anyway for me this clip shows that Driss Mamouni dominates the instrument, he is a master of Oud. Please don't write comments like that: try to do the same, you will see.

how do you pronounce oud?
MontgomerylandFunk 3 years ago
Well, the first arabic letter doesn t exist in the Latin alphabet,so they replace it with o.
the word oud is pronounced like you would pronouce the word oof.I hope my reply is helpful for you.
