Hey man, can you tell me exactly which version this song is? I have the Milan version 2005 and its different? If you say "the Vertigo" I still cant find it exactly. Thanks
I just listened to Milan an it's not that much different at all. Same order of verses and chorus etc. Even notes are almost the same. He changes it up a little, but it's essentially the same.
just for giggles I have been trying to get the same EXACT tone over here with my gear. The closest I can come is the AC4 10" with my LP, Alnico pups, and a Keeley Baked TS9, yet I am still lacking in saturation somehow. Then I jsut tried it with an OCD on LP, gain around 12:30 and I think I nailed it! One things for sure, you NAILED it on your AXE. The tube Drive, is the a TS808, TS9, or tube driver model? Do you know?
I would love to see a tutorial on amp adjustment, minus the effects, to help us dial in the basic AC30 settings Edge uses. Since every amp is different, it would be great to have some instruction or high quality clean audio to use as a reference tone. I love when you post videos that include the fine tuning of the effects as well prior to getting into the song. Unfortunately we don't all have Axe FX's that we can download patches to.
I used a modulated delay, as usual. Details to come. I did not try to model the analog delay like he used in the old days. I'm not sure he uses the old analog delay for the newer live versions. Won't make much difference with the drive. It's more noticeable on songs without drive/distortion.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! This is such a simple song and the first I learned to play by ear, but I have never quite mastered it over the years. Edge's unconventional chord shapes are sometimes hard to reverse engineer. Other videos give bits and pieces of clues but you showed everything in clear HD detail. When I watched the IMGL movie, I found myself trying to look over Edge's shoulder as he showed Page and White how to play it. Argh! They never showed the detail. LOL! Thanks for showing it!
It's in the description. Seth Lovers. They are a similar version of what's in Edge's explorer. I don't think they are potted with wax and they are not too hot. It's a modern version of the vintage pup. But I think any alnico humbucker that is not too hot should work fine.
Yeah, I know what you mean Michael, you can't define it....
Whenever I hear this particular song, it always reminds me of the time I was free and independent, no obligations whatsoever, in my late teens. I think we're about the same age..
I have a BOSS DD3 delay pedal, if I purchase another one would this be good enough to get an edge sound, like still havent found or all I want is you?

I love a lot of music, mostly selected songs from various artists. Don Henley is very talented and both his original version and this one are two of my favorite songs of all time. It's like Streets - it give you this rush with incredible melody and feel. Just can't explain it in words. I think it's Don's best ever.

Yes, the II is better than the Ultra. The II does a better job with clean tones for songs like ISHFWILF, Bad, Pride, etc. The amp models are a serious upgrade.
This channel has been an oasis in the desert for me. Truly an amazing source for people trying to learn U2 songs or learning guitar in general. Your videos inspired me to pick up the guitar and learn for myself. Been playing for almost a year now. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to make these amazing videos. -David
Please Film your axe fx and do the settings for a strat as well if possible it would be really helpful.

Thx! In the Axe it's just called "Tube Drive." There is an 808 model but it's different (more mids and not as sharp).

I really don't want to troll, but being a die hard Eagles fan, that intro really bugs me.

@EaglesStir I have to agree, U2 tutorial videos should have a U2 intro. Nothing against the Eagles but just makes more sense. Still, great videos.

@wbesack Yeah, I just hate this version. But of course, the videos are what it's all about!

@U2GuitarTutorials I'm glad the file sizes seem to apparantly be much smaller now on the .flv.
Before, files in the region of 350MB were frankly getting ridiculous.

Other tutorials for this song usually take 4 minutes. Leave it to Michael to extract 12 10-minute videos to explain this song! GO MICHAEL!!

Are you happier with your tones in the Axe II vs. the Ultra? Is the II really that much better and worth the upgrade?
