  • DANG THAT GAME IS STIFFER THAN OMGOODNESS I WILL NEVER PLAY THAT AGAIN

  • Bullshit. That is not the Sega Master system

  • Comment removed

  • @mshafer1021 It's an emulator port.

  • lol characters got same graphic quality and animation than s-nes.

  • im glad people who couldnt get their hands on a 16 bit system could play this awesome game as it really was at the time.

  • Wow the graphics look good for 8 bit

  • in my opinion the master system is the best 8 bit system ever made, looks this graphics!

  • @ranmatravolta pc engine?

  • trash trash trash trash trash trash ....

  • SOS UNA WASCA CON LAS FATALITIES

  • Holy shit... the Master System was one hell of a powerhouse in it's day!

  • I like vintage. I like this port

  • This was my first fighting game!!!And I loved every single moment of it!!!And I simply loved the first time I ever perfomed a fatality. It was with Sub-Zero, my favourite character ;).Peace :)

  • How do I suppose to play that with only two fucking buttons! I had this game like 18 years ago.

  • hahaha NES PORT SUCKS! THIS PORT MUCH BETTER!

  • @LoveBackmasking the NES Port was made by unlicensed pirate company, no wonder its crap.

  • I had a Master System when I was like 5. I had this game on Genesis when I was roughly 12. They MADE an MKII port for Master System? WTF for??

  • Like to see the Nes do this.

  • HAHAHA...

even SubZero and Scorpion managed to keep their respective 'idle' stances, something missing from the original MK on the MegaDrive!! Impressive...

  • i like mortal kombat trilogy on ps 1 thats funny

  • Doesn't look TERRIBLE for the Master System.

  • suck because

    Movemnets are slow

    no voice clarity

    bad music this port sucks

  • @luigiblox Still, with all this flaw, I still like this port.

  • @luigiblox You realize the Master System came out before the genesis, right? It was a competitor with the NES. Of course it won't be as good as other versions but at least people who only had a master system got to play MK2.

  • @thebrainsquid i know that but what i ment to say this is not as good

  • @luigiblox Have you ever played a Sega Master System? oO

There was no way that MK2 could be better than this.

  • pretty cool

  • @Punj4biUK The main problem with the SEGA is that doing the Sega CD and the Sega 32X caused the SNES to easily outsold them because of people complaining about game being just enchaned with cd music and not gameplay improvement

  • wow what a piece of garbage

  • @felphero I personnaly think that this port is great and its one of the better game for the sega master system (I do respect your opinion thought). Did you ever played this game or the Game Gear version?

  • @SuperDave341 man you know what, after seeing the game boy version i think this is gold LOL

  • @felphero Lollololo

  • Man the Sega Master System was so much better hardware-wise than the Nintendo. It's amazing that Nintendo won that battle, and that history continued as it did. Imagine what today would be like if Sega won that war?!

  • I paid £35 for this when it came out!

  • They're either using lots of hardware sprites to build the fighters or doing something AMAZING with the tile map. This is AWESOME, well beyond what we normally think of as the maximum capability of an 8-bit 3rd-generation game system.

  • They actually made Mortal Kombats for the Master System? Wherever the master system was popular it must of had a long lifespan, because where I grew up everyone had Genesis of Super Nintendo LONG before the original Mortal Kombat existed.

  • @PopcornCoolie Well not for the Super Nintendo, that was made in 1991 in US. Mortal Kombat was ported in 1993 on both system. I do agree with the Sega Genesis however, which came out in 1989

  • @SuperDave341 I guess I meant to say long before we knew it existed. It wasn't in our arcades until about 1992. And back then a year seemed like a long to us.

  • @PopcornCoolie There was this lame period after the Genesis came out where the SMS didn't die, it just became like a poor person's Genesis. Most of the new titles consisted of scaled down ports of Genesis games. Altered Beast, lots of stuff like that. They were pretty technologically ambitious, but sucked the soul out of the SMS.

  • I was stunned how impressive MK1 was on SMS. Sadly this sequel should have been a lot better.

  • @stufaman I think the opposite of what you say. I think the first mortal kombat should have been better, but the second one is really what a 8-bit mortal kombat should look like, Excellent control, easy gameplay, great music and some voice sample

  • @SuperDave341 I know many agree with you. But for me it was always the shock of how close MK1 was on SMS. The game gear version was great too. But the SMS conversion was a little slower and had massive borders. Mind you, UK (where I live) SMS games lost a fair bit of speed from the US counterpart.

  • @stufaman Mortal Kombat is a EU only game for the sms, so I personnaly think that since its an EU Game, the speed is probaly the same on all sega master

  • @SuperDave341 Oh right. It just some of the MK2 vids seem to run faster. Mind you SMS actually trounced NES sales over here. A shame it didn't make a bigger impact elsewhere.

  • @stufaman 60hz modding the console fixes this, and is very simple on the SMS1 as the contacts that control the frequency are attached to solder pads (SMS2 requires soldering to a pin on the graphics chip)

  • @TiWolfFilms Cheers for that sir. Mind you I'm happy with what my SMS does and still does now. A great machine.

  • i think mortal kombat one is better than mortal kombat two for the sms

  • @19061986 Both are nice but I personnaly think that MK2 SMS is easier to play than the original because projectile and fatality are much easier to do on MK2.

  • if that was posible, why fuckin nes was not doing that!

  • master system rules NES sucks!

  • no way this is master system!!

  • @SOUTHWESTENZ Of course it is! If you dont beleive me, I can show you picture of my TV and Sega Master system running Mortal KOmbat II

  • @SuperDave341 preety freaking nice for 8 bit, alot better than street fighter on master system

  • @SuperDave341 I think he's referring to the quality of the game itself.

  • the funny thing on this version that the music is cooler than in the genesis version

  • @nooblet911 8-Bits Music will always triumph over 16 bits music

  • I ment that genesis music was off too much. some music in genesis version sound nothing like the arcade.

  • the game gear and sega master system is the only game i dont like out of mortal kombat

  • I'm impressed they could get it on the master system. I'm even more impressed with the look of Scorpion's fatality! It looks awesome!

  • How the fuck does one play Mortal Kombat with an SMS controller?

that thing only had 2 buttons!

  • @Theriot6592 Its like the game boy and amiga version, button are simplified. High/Low Kick and High/Low Punch do not exist anymore, It is simply Kick and Punch for button 1 and 2. To block, you need to hold back and 1 at the same time. Its seems unplayable but this is not that case here

  • mk doesn't need more than 3 buttons tbh

  • Very impressive, I didn't know they could add voices in very impressive.

  • I hate those ports to older systems. The animation clearly misses frames. The game wasn't designed for a Master System.

The graphics are very good, though. Way better than all other Master System games I've played. The "fight" voice is nice too.

  • This looks great. I think it looks like 12-bit rather than 8 :)

  • bits don't really mean shit. it was just marketing for kids.

  • NES could never do this

  • Very good for an 8 bit system, although I see it is missing frames, but for 8 bit that is ok. Also how do you do half the moves or even block? There are only two buttons that I am aware of on the Master System controller. (Original controller anyway.)

  • Sega Master System was a better system then the NES. Mortal Kombat on the Sega Master System looks good for what a 8-bit system could do.

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom It is true that the Sega Master was stronger on many point but one thing. For me, the music and sound on the sega master is horrible compared to the NES

  • By the time this game was released, I was already on the 16bit systems.

So I would have had this game on the SNES.

I started with a master system, and liked it better than the NES.

But for the 16-bit, I moved to the SNES (I liked it better than the Genesis) and as a kid I never had enough cash to get a Neo-Geo :P

  • This does not look bad at all.

  • this isn't master system version! LIES! HA HA!

  • I have the Sega GameGear version of this.

  • The graphics are quite good for Master System. But it seems the animation lacks frames.

  • i own the Game Boy version of this game. It has exactly the same amount of content in it (except color and blood). Sometimes I just think: Is the Master System really THAT limited?

  • @smbmadman1 I personnaly think that if a NES Port of Mortal Kombat 2 would exist, It would look alot like the pirate MK game

  • @SuperDave341 Many people don't even know half the secrets this MK game for example the Babalities and many other secrets. Nice o see some one playing on a Master System I can hear the Master System controller buttons "clapping" !!!

  • @Mekanaizer This is a shame that the sega master system removed almost all the secret of MK2 except the three secret character and the toasty

  • back in the day i woulda bet my left nut that sms would pwn the nes, all because of games like this. i would love to see this on nes xD crazy stuff

  • @tyleratthegates try to compare the only official one and one fighting game like Street Fighter on the NES: TMNT Tournament Fighter. You check an video about this game on NESguide.com or on NESguide's channel here on youtube.

  • its missing baraka, raiden, kung lao, and johnny cage!!! i have mk1 on marster system and that ones missing kano......why even release it??? its your fav game in the arcade, you wait a whole year, pay hard earn cash just to be disappointed... i mean the game was probably $110 back then....how crushed would you be

  • @jokerman693 this port of mortal kombat must has been less sold than the other version

  • @SuperDave341 yeah but if you were 10 and saw ur favourite arcade game for sale on the home system, you'd buy it probably thinking it couldn't be that different to the arcade version.......probably not but i think more than enough people may of got suckerd in......i bought it at the pawn shop for $15 last year.....i was disappointed haha.....but maybe i'm just stupid hahaha

  • @jokerman693 the game was only $40 brand new back then.

  • @BillyCauseyjr ok my bad......i found an old game for $80 so i figured...... but that was mega drive sooooo my bad.....but i live in australia and over here everything is more expensive (and censored) :(

  • @jokerman693 now because many are old and rare you can find megadrive games for up to $200. but that doesn't mean they casted that much when first launched.

  • @BillyCauseyjr ah cool thanks......see i'm not from that gen. but i got sega mastersystem 2 mega drive, atari, dreamcast, nes, snes, n64......i'm a big colecter and i'm only 14. yo its good for me to know this shit.

  • @jokerman693 technically I'm not from the 8-bit gen either, I'm only 20 so I started about halfway through the 16 bit gen, the Snes and Genesis were my first.

The ps1 was the first one I bought for myself so I'm kind of a ps1 fanboy.

  • @BillyCauseyjr same here......ps1 was my first console. got one when i was like 4.

  • @jokerman693 I said the ps1 was the first one I bought for myself, my dad got me an snes and a genesis before that. (I also went through all three versions of the ps1 becaue of discs coming off the tray during gameplay, shattering, and rendering the console useless.... mostly it was final fantasy VII that liked to do that, this is why I have three copies with different discs missing.)

  • @BillyCauseyjr hahaha kool

  • wow..... i miss this game, i think i played this when i was like 7, im 21 now...ooooo memories :D

  • @beautygurl2007 I was not even born when you played this at the time!

  • @SuperDave341 lol wow

  • hahaha i fucking love the 8 bit sound in this version of mk

  • Hahahaha and this shitty game actually have better music than the genesis port.

  • @nothinghappens1 tell me why you think this game is shitty

  • @SuperDave341 I love mortal kombat 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc... i am refering about the particular bad ports of sega in general. I mean, the sega versions are a kick in the balls for every die hard mortal kombat fan as me. Is only my opinion, no fight intended.

  • @nothinghappens1 I respect your opinion, I have no problem against semeone who hate something, I was just curious XD. Personnaly, both sega port are good game

  • @SuperDave341 Thanks man. Is just that i think that maybe preogrammers should made a better effort, and i say that based on other amazing games for the genesis, for example comix zone or sonic, great games for the time. Cheers.

  • At first i looked at this and was thinking "wow that's a terribad version of MKII, then i remembered that this came out on the system still at the time fighting head to head with the NES. If i could have had a game of this caliber on NES i'd have cried. I'd rate this MILES above battletoads or double dragon, the closest games i can think of on NES

  • That sayings "FIGHT" is so funny. LOL!

  • hey one of my sega cords is broke you think like gamestop would have one that i could buy?

  • @Hoopsboy2 I don't know, it really depend of where you live. In Québec, I didn't saw one single EBgame/GameStop carrying sega games (Sometime they have 2 or 3 SNES Sport game).

  • Is looks the same as the SegaGGear

  • @koffypr the sega master system version is actually a port of the game gear one, this is why they almost look the same

  • @SuperDave341 Thanks . I didn't even notice that you said it in the vid. Well I had a sega master. I never knew that ,they did a sega master vrs.

  • There was another version of this game with Goto's Lair and the Bridge with lions as the only two stages on the game. Graphics were identical though.

  • @letsgetthisoverwith you must probally think about the Original Mortal Kombat made on the Game Gear and the SMS in 1993. Those game feature the two background you mentioned.

  • its awful

  • This is pretty good for a 8-bit system.

  • This is actually a really good port, especially considering how BAD Street Fighter II is on Master System, and how botched the Genesis game is. Very playable.

  • how do you run, block, high punch/low punch, high kick/low kick, roundhouse, sweep, duck-kick high + low, duck punch high + low, etc., etc., freakin' etc. with ONLY 2 BUTTONS?!!?!?

All I know is I got MK3 on an NES emulator and it was awful cuz there's only 2 action buttons! (start + select did nothing but pause it, but SMS doesnt have those buttons anyways)

  • @chitownsuperfan there is only one punch , one kick, roundhouse is foward + kick, sweep is away + kick, no duck move .

    Punch

    Kick

    Sweep

    RoundHouse Kick

    Uppercut

    Throw

Special move of each character and Fatality

    That It

  • lol 1:26 : fatality fail

  • again.....bullshit!

  • Wow your cameras auto focus does not like this game hahaha. Neat vid, I didn't think this ever hit the master system . Then again it didn't last in the US.

  • i remember i had this for game gear......it was bad ass

  • bullshit they stoped making sega 1 games in 89!

  • lol! yeah right! thats the game gear mortal kombat 2 bro!

  • actually looks ok!

  • GAME OF MY CHILDHOOD

  • this is a budget piece of shit made by Indonesian slaves lol

  • The A.I. on the MS and GG ports are a complete joke.

  • how do i do fatalitys, ranged attacks and friendships

  • this is an unholy, infernal, demonic diahrrea induced atrocity version of MK2 from ed boons asshole... >=(

  • No way. Its hard to believe that they actually made a master system version of this. If its the GG version or a MS version. It looks damn good.

  • isnt this sega genesis?

  • omfg what a shit load of fuck, where da hell is kung lao and johnny cage?!

  • How do you block with a two-button controller?

  • @evenmorebetter You need to hold both button 1 and 2 on the SMS controller (unlike the game gear , which you only need to hold the start button).

  • @SuperDave341 Another feature the SMS version has is a Pause feature, which is absent from the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of the game (pressing START will block - even with a 6-button controller).

  • @evenmorebetter You press back. Any attack(depending on your stance and the attack made) you will block it.

  • Better than street fighter 2, overrated shit.

  • looks like the game gear version

  • i totally missed which scorpion won in the scorpion vs. scorpion fight. hahaha

  • Comment removed

  • wasn't this on game gear too

  • yes it is the case, the sega master version is the port of the game gear one (that why both version are actually the same)

  • I gotta give this some respect it does a pretty good job on a 8bit system.

  • this looks better than the gg version

  • I do think that its the opposite. Because the sega master system version is the same as the GG but on a bigger screen, the graphic quality tend to be worst

  • Looks quite impressive for an 8-bit game.

  • I was disapointed in this version. I was really impressed with the first MK on SMS. It was a better conversion than many of it's earlier games. I hoped this version would have used a simelar engine but alas.

This could have been better even for the SMS.

  • Very impressive to be a first gen SEGA console version of a next gen game... Better still than MK1 on the SEGA-MS! Still 8-Bit pushing those CHIPS!

NES would never have been able to process shit like that....

  • its a bad version

  • depend on taste. Even thought its not the best port, its still a very good game for the system

  • this is not the master system

  • yes it is , I filmed this version playing on the sega master system. I admit this version and the SEGA GAME GEAR version are the same so you may think its the GG one

  • aa oki i see...

  • I never had a master system but i stil have my game gear with mk 1 and 2.

  • 1:52 Gotta love those mirror matches. I knew Scorpion was winning that fight LOL

  • lol you never lose your bet on mirror match

  • have to say for a master system the graphics and gameplay were pretty good. Can not believe they even thought about releasing the dire MK3 for it!

  • yes but unfortunatly , unlike the two other MK , MK3 was a rushed title. It still good but not as good as his precedecor

  • i love this game butt i cant beet it

  • I miss Sega...Those were the days

  • i never liked me sega i allways played snes

  • amazing graphics for 8 bit

  • true they are real good

  • i agree

  • digitized graphic really shine on 8-bits system

  • @SuperDave341

Why is the vid moving in and out like that? That's weird.

  • Its cos hes filmed it with a cam corder

  • @xenon6543

That's obvious, but I don't know of any camcorders that operate with a sea-sickness effect, lol.

  • my camera has some video problem and i do not have another one.

  • wow much better than any NES game if u ask me

  • sega master had better detailled graphic than the NES.

  • i don't like much the scrolling, but is still nice

  • TOASTY! Xd

  • How are such graphics possible on an 8-bit system? I never saw anything as impressive on the NES.

Also, I didn't even know that the Master System was still around in 1994 I thought it was phased out in 1990/91. Was this game even available in the us? I don't recall seeing any Master System carts/consoles sold in stores after 1991.

  • @Skull10

This is Europe only, but like he said Game Gear is the same game.

  • the master system was capable of much better graphics then the nes.

the only downfall was that the sega master system didn't have much third party developers for games like the nes did.

  • I owned a Master System for a relatively brief period (1988-1990). The few games I had for it, I probably enjoyed even more than Nintendo (Shinobi remains one of my all-time favorite games). But the want for money and lack of new titles made me decide to sell it.

I wish I still had it today. I would love to play Shinobi again.

  • thats great I loved shinobi too :D

have you tried an emulator? I know nothing beats the real thing, but you can still play it

  • Shinobi is a very good game that in my opinion is one of the SMS classic. There is also a NES version of this game but this can never be compared to the superior SMS.
