Why does no-one remember this! (Spoiler if you haven't already played the game)

Merlin is dead. His granddaughter, Merlina, is busy trying to undo what he has accidentally done - Merlin made Arthur go insane with power. Merlina summons Sonic from his time/dimension (the game is unclear about this exact point) and get him to go on stereotypical magical quest to save kingdom from evil king bent on world domination using evil demonic creatures to enforce his rule. Story follows.
