  • Kiesel obviously did a good job in the 'new germany' after the war. They're in a fucking site better condition than Britain now!

  • I had served in the US Marines back in the 1970s, so many moons ago. Remember seeing the movie at one of the on-post theaters overseas then & thought it classic. The movie does not show WWII (or any war) as glorification. I like this scene cause it's so emotional & touching, esp. when David Warner says that 'there are better people than me'. And of course both James Mason & James Coburn played sterling parts. I think that this movie should be shown on cable TV as it'd make people aware of war.

  • @MyShawn111 Great comment. Totally agree with it.

  • Since my first viewing of the film many moons ago, I've always managed to remember these particular words from one of Mason's lines in this scene: "In the new Germany, if such a thing is allowed to exist...". James nailed the Colonel Brandt character like no one else could, and his great work in Peckinpah's only war movie helps keep it from becoming a lost masterpiece of World War II cinema.

  • Agree, great scene. Need someone to guide them from the ruins.

  • second best scene of the movie

    second only to the ending
