I do not believe Viennas music appeals to a certain age-groups, but more likely types of personality and temper. As far as I've read both 26-year olds, 59-year olds and 52-year olds love her. I do too, and I am only 14. I think that the greatest artists of all, is the ones who manages to make their music timeless. And that I think Vienna has done for certain!

Well, I'm 59 and a big Joni Mitchell, Janice Ian, Norah Jones, Annie Lennox, etc. fan and I love Vienna Teng's music. Just discovered her recently and I think she is a wonderful songwriter, singer and performer. A great, fresh talent. I missed her tours, but hope one day to get the chance to hear her live.

Her "percussion" (and the piano is a percussion instrument as well as a string instrument BTW) demonstrates yet another of her many talents as an extremely versatile musician and artist. The best ever that has ever lived IMO.

probably the music of vienna doesn't grab me cause' i'm fckg 53 ! and so i already "lived" the music and the times of oni mitchell,laura nyro ,ricki lee ones etc. wich they still sounds freshier and bettter that the teng's stuff.beside i'm not an old git and i'm always looking for new music i love anthiny and the jjohnosons, goldfrapp,au revoire simone,Mark Lanegan & Isobel Campbell etc..all of them are (for me) more original and stimulating than vienna ( not so famous after all)

I got to see this song live. XD She plays it with so much humor... she always impressed me on recordings, but it was live that she completely blew me away - she's so alive on stage, and her voice is epic. *__*

Pontello is of course entitled to his opinion. I would, however, recommend you listen to more of her music. This is not the version of her work than one usually hears. While she is wonderful live, she's said herself that she prefers studio work. There are plenty of other songs which may better express her vocal, instrumental, and lyrical talents. I hope you find you enjoy her work more, but if you don't, please try to remember that even on the Internet, kindness and politeness are virtues.

Please re-read what you initially wrote. While everybody is entitled to their opinion, it comes across very offensive, not to mention that "banging the fucking piano" is a viable addition to playing it the conventional way. Cellos or guitars, for instance, weren't initially meant for that, yet a lot of artists incorporate techniques that involve hitting the body of their instruments among the traditional forms of playing them.

Also, I do recommend listening to more than one piece of hers, which incidentally she herself says is "quite a silly song", before proclaiming she had no personality nor talent.

As it so happens, Vienna Teng is a gifted lyricist and musician. Her singing voice, while not the most amazing thing ever to sound from a human being, stands out from the mainstream and fits her songs nicely.

Flaming on about an artist that dares going against commercial norms in a skilled manner will trigger protest.

youtube is a free space so i felt free to express my opinion, i was surprised that , someone invest money (renting the glorious sun studios ) in an artist wich she's ....well , ok , but maybe not SO special and original...but , yes is just an opinion man!

this is quite ridicolous this woman behive like a great sensible artist....she bang the fucking piano instead of paly it properly , she explain her "art" etc..but then..no personality ,she's exactly like other 1000 singers around and /or like the great joni mitchell and laura nyro...(but she is really far from them!!)

When you "bang" on something, in the music industry, they call it drumming. >.>

She was drumming on the wood for extra rhythm and sounds - as she has quite frequently demonstrated, she actually plays the piano with a great deal of skill.

If you're looking for "something special" and a lot of personality, it's usually best not to judge by a silly song the singer wrote just for kicks. ^^'
