Probably the same reason they use aluminum connecting rods. The aluminum rods distort and are ruined by the end of one run. In comparison, steel rods don't distort, they just instantly snap from the force of the nitro. The slight bit of play in the belt saves it from destruction.
not so, steel rods r toughest, u build an engine just strong enough, too strong and u wasted weight, a race engine should just expire at the end of the race.
@tpvalley That depends on your exact definition of "strength". For the nitro application, aluminum has the durability thanks to its flex that they need, plus it saves rotating mass, crucial when you have a 500 inch V8 running at 10,000 rpm.
strength being ability to resist shock loading, tension and compression and resist bending forces. to be honest Ive never come across aluminium rods before, race rods r usually forged steel, aluminium is very weak in comparison.
some belts are actually stronger than chains, i saw a turbo busa-(highly modified) at santa pod with belt drive. i dont know why they went for belt instead of chain but hey.
geez like you welded that back shock up or something..tight, they are some snappy gear changes brother looks like that wastegate really dups the lag fast
cool.

Thumb shifter? Never seen that on a bike before. Looks like you did some spinning in 2nd n 3rd. nice.

sounds like it was about to melt a hole in a piston
choppersilver 1 year ago
@choppersilver
no, its banging because the thumb shifter cuts ignition when it shifts.
tpvalley 1 year ago
@tpvalley the three hard bangs at the end didnt sound like the shifter... can see the gear change though with the others now you mentioned it..

Why don't drag cars just use the steam operated launch like on a aircraft carrier?
Wouldn't it be quicker, and no bent rods?
A bent rod is a staff, as mentioned in the Bible.
seapeddler 1 year ago
@seapeddler there would be no point in racing then if they used a steam ram

@tpvalley You are right, it does seem rather counterintuitive. Still, I'll trust someone who can make a car with more power than the Enola Gay.

@tpvalley You have never seen aluminum rods???
You must not no very much about ULTRA hi performance engines...
Google it...

Wouldnt really have a turbo on a ducati since the engines are pretty delicate with them having belts.
