Totally peaceful, yes. They don't mind a few plants but its not essential as they stay right on the top of the tank and appreciate the free swimming space.
As people are saying hard to find. I am having trouble finding them here in Aus. I think the last time I saw them was a year ago, should have bought em' damn!
I love these but I can't find them for love nor money in the Manchester area! Well, tell a lie, a certain large chain have them but I am a little fussy about my supplier.
Don't LFS's like these fish or are there supply problems right now?
Definitley supply problems at present. We've had 20 on order from a customer and we can't get them anywhwere except through an importer that we use but at the moment, they cost as much as our selling price. There must be real supply problems if you can't get them in the manchester area as they are on of the main import sites in the UK.
Its been a while since we've had these fellas in but they're nice fish. Just remember to beep the top on your aquarium as they jump at the slightest disturbance.
Do you know if these Hatchetfish are good peaceful schooling fish? Wanted to know if they would do well in a semi-planted tank.

Most characin species will shimmy. It sometimes looks like they are being electrocuted.

Maybe the lighting is bad, but those look like silver hatchetfish.

They are very small and hadn't been in the tank for long so they didn't have much colour at the time of this video.
