Then Patrick Stewart character smiles and the screen goes blank for a split of a second like as if he was transported trhough his mind to 1950. I think there is a logo of DC United because its probably 2005.

ah come on, this is a long stretch from 'miracle on ice' that may have actually warranted a movie recreation. they called the 1-0 win over england 'miracle on grass'...great result, but a full feature length movie??? come on...

Whats more important is not the goal but the scoreless run of England.

England was never been defeated in UK by any team in nearly 100 years untill Hungary won 6-3 in 1953 (3 years after this match).

This is to the date the greatest game USA has ever done.

Back then they were among the best 10 teams every year for 80 years.

This one of those matches that very rarely happens even by teams like Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, etc.

But untill 1953 England had never been defeated by any team outside of the UK on homesoil.

I MENT IT IN 1949 IN FOOTBALL. Untill 1948 Ireland was a soverign state only in 1949 it's declaration of Republic came to an effect removing what was left of the power of the UK. The match happened only 7 months after.

Besides I ment Ireland was part of the UK IN THEIR STYLE OF PLAY.

Have you heard of Britain's Splendid Isolation policy from late XIX century? Untill the 1950 most of those countries rarely played outside other teams back in 1949 Ireland still played British football.
