  • roofingwarehouse.co.uk - Firestone EPDM

  • Rubber bond only sale to fully trained installer other company will sale to any cowboy.I fit rubber for a living myself Hate it when these cowboys.mess up a nice Little job like that

  • Yes thanks for the i was first trained with rubber bond and yes it is a good system but its expensive compared to all the other epdm rubber roofing systems on the market.

The roofings that installed this EPDM were not trained in anything but the rodio.

Whats your opinion about laying EPDM rubber directly over mineral felt or even asphalt?

  • Thats a do it yourself job for sure. And done by a real idiot if you ask me. I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination but even I would have paid more attention to detail than the bloke who rolled that roof. LOL

  • either that,or condensation....

  • This will not be condensation as the due point will be much lower into the roof the age of the property means that Part L of the building regulations would have applied back around 1990 when this roof construction was build they were using around 50mm of insulation and forming warm roofs

  • @stevewater A roof vent might help dry it up. Sounds like your reroofed it already anyways, eh?

I hate when people just fly a new roof over the old one, right on top of the old soggy roof.

We've got a nigtmare of a roof on top of our apartment building, my landlord had me go up there and circle all the bad spots--I ran out of chalk before I could finish! No seem tape, just black glue. No termination bar either, a damn mess. All on top of an old asphalt roof. Screws poppin up everywhere.

  • whered the moisture come from? capillary action.... maybe? looks like a nice place for bats to live....

  • @Basard100 could be an over the top of tar and gravel and the leaks from the tar and gravel were never resolved (removing dampen roof and replaced with dry insulation and 2 ply torch patch) these s.o.b epdm roofs get hot and boy will that draw up the water quick

  • @Xeidasx ya dude, newb roofers... give em a journeyman license.... they have 10000 hours, why not, they are idiots.....

  • Yes the water could have been locked into the roof, recently I removed a 3 yer old roof and the roof insulation was completely saturated EPDM is gas permeable however the amount of gas that transfers through the single ply membrane is so small its irrelevant

  • ughhh everytime someone replies to my posts im forced to watch this and laugh my ass off!! warranty is good as long as it takes me to the bank to cash your cheque bud!! hahaha

  • I am a swiss roofer, unfortunately i would not belive that epdm would be found on my house... i belive for a flat roof there is only one way.and that would be torch on membrane bitumen or tar.double layer and have waterproof insulation foamed glass underneath and filled with liquid tar...thats called a flat roof ;) haha

  • The 1st pvc membrane roof I installed was 1979, it is still as good the months it took to carry out the work. and as for shabby work, pay the lads a decent wage, give them a target to work to, keep them off bonus, and also respect them.

  • Thanks for the Video I am learning all about Rubber Roofing my Mobile Home in Windsor Ontario. Bye.

  • Are you looking for quality concrete roofs? Look no further, just go to TILE-MOLDS . com and I promise that you simply won't

    regret!

  • EPDM roofs suck because any untrained roofer can buy it and throw it on. If you want it to last you better hire a very experienced roofer that knows what he is doing. That means BIG BUCKS for homeowners. Also, you can not have ponding water because the seams are held together buy a sticky adhesive. Its a fkn joke.

  • Well EPDM roofs will hold moisture I've been told. Its like a big plastic bag. The installer/roofer/builder needs to think about roof venting

  • is that how they do it in europe?

  • I have been installing rubber/epdm roofs for over 21 years now.The same with any product - if installed correctly will last the test of time. To the installer of competing product - good on ya!, you obviously know quality as opposed to "tyre-kickers".

  • ya test of time until a crow comes and picks at it. epdm roofs are useful in some applications exposed like this is asking for trouble besides, this type of epdm roof should be ballasted there are thicker woven fibre epdm products that will stand the test of being exposed to the uv rays. 12+ all types of roofing, journeyman installer

  • never had a problem with birds have heard that they get this problem down the cost, recently We did a new EPDM roof at Hampton Court Palace, the lead roof next to the one we laid had damage from squirrels eating it, lead has been around for years and so has the problems with animals eating roofing materials

  • im a journeyman installer of pvc.epdm.tpo,tng.3/4 ply, 2 ply sbs mop, and rubber waterproofing, im located in vancouver british columbia, the crows seem to enjoy picking away at the stuff while theyre eating whatever, its a good product but has its places on certain jobs ie: warehouses and other places leaks wouldnt do alot of damage, banks government buildings get the good ol 2 ply sbs mop n torch, i love epdm very quick and efficient

  • we have a company policy that we dont use heat on roofs, its the way the market is going. EPDM rubber and Kemper are the top two materials we now use Liquid Plastic is now to expensive Roofkrete is good but expensive

  • @Xeidasx I am a swiss roofer, unfortunately i would not belive that epdm would be found on my house... i belive for a flat roof there is only one way.and that would be torch on membrane bitumen or tar.double layer and have waterproof insulation foamed glass underneath and filled with liquid tar...thats called a flat roof ;) haha

  • @Xeidasx I have seen a lot of EPDM roofs fail simply because in the winter when its -20 degrees at night and gets up to 30 during the day you get a thing called thermal shock and the material contracts creating ripples. Also the seems pop. They fail all the time. I would never use the stuff. I dont feel that I could put my name on it.

  • @RoofSmart ya it belongs in some parts of the world and not others, it all comes down to what the owners/comtractors want to pay and we all know labour/time is the most expensive part of the job. A ballasted system lasts years here in vancouver b.c Ive seen all sorts of leaks in my time mostly human error but ive also seen 20 year epdm roofs still going strong except the seams wear down as the black glue and caulking days are of the past

  • Yes we would all like it to be laid by trained installers before EPDM gets a bogy name

  • I like the way you talk up a roofing system that can not and will not stand up to the test of time but if the public are willing then you kind of roofers are all way able

The speech was outstanding ! I've been laying mastic asphalt for 20years and only lead roof come in the same

Any way good luck with edmp.

  • just to let you know if a felt roof is sound epdm can be fully adheared to existing without a problem and will last 30 years +if laid correctly fleece back rubber and thier glue are no comparison to epdm as the glue soaks into fleece making it less cost effective and alot harder to work with also bridges at upstands and dosint take right to alot of substates as firestone glue for example will stick to anything and i mean anything also fleece back rubber has alot less elongation.

  • I agree with what you say I have one reservation with placing EPDM over old felt and asphalt, and that the transfer of heat, as they are completely black the roof must get hot and what hapens to the old roof under the EPDM?

  • lets hope your putting a seperation board between the two because epdm glue is not compatible with tar and will break down the two quickly and change the physical properties of the both of em.

  • rubber roofs are junk nothing like a all hot roofer

  • Just an update on the comments

We didn't lay this EPDM roof

I don't use this particular brand as its not fleece backed, its thinner and harder to lay.

EPDM that is fully bonded doesn't need any ballast or stones to hold it down

We don't relying on mastic to form the seals!

  • The EPDM rubber we are using has a fleece back and we use a water based glue, it goes down very easily with no creasing. The joints are vulcanised EPDM we we call them glued joints however this isn't quite true as we use a primer on un-curred EPDM and this vulcanises on contact.

  • i am trained in epdm and if you lay the rubber in cold temperatures it will always blister and crease.

i don't rate the epdm systems as you are relying on mastic to form the seal on the flat roof, sometimes called liquid rubber.

i much prefer the tor or kemper systems.

    or even tpo systems.

the epdm systems are designed for roofs that have ballast or slabs laid o them and was never designed for a freestanding product as they will always blister due to the gassing of the glues,

  • sorry but your wrong the gasses leave the glue if it is left to dry enough but not to long you need to know how to use contact adhisive properly i install epdm 6 days a week and never leave a roof with blisters or wrinkles

  • well spoken as long as the gasses flash there would be no creases and providing the installer is well skilled

  • dont tell me you install a competing product.

You should be ashamed of yourself
