hey, ive been checking out these headphones for a while and wuz planning on gettin the 700's (beacuse the 1000's are too much) but i cant find them anywhere since before christmas, not even the sony website have them. should i wait a little longer (some bestbuy dude said around 2 weeks) or just go with the 500's instead? what shud i dou?

@poeralGCkings if you want the 500's you wont be disappointed. i recently broke the 700's (party got a bit crazy and someone stepped on them) i took them to a sony store and because of my warrenty they replaced them. BUT they didn't have 700's in stock so i got the 500's again instead and i must say, there is a bit of a clarity difference (like 2/10 difference) I do like the 700's better. so I'd say personally, wait.

damn man, i heard that the 500s were actually better headphones, what do you think i should get if i like alternative like blink, boxcar and stuff. But i also love rap, dubstep and whatnot. Right now and don't shun me for this, i'm using skullcandy skullcrushers.. Lol and im not impressed with the bass/mids/treble/ and highs. I know these have outstanding bass, but is it overpowering? also, how dooes the treb, mid and highs sound?? that is VERY important to me considering i listento alternative.

I bought my XB500 for only 49 bucks! It's pretty cheap on amazon.com :) I saw one from bestbuy and its hella 80 bucks haha I realized I got a great catch for only 49bucks :) Best headphones for a cheap price. nice video dude! :) How I wish the XB500 will be modified and make the plastic attachments into metals. For durability :)

Is the frequency range between the XB500 and XB700's noticeable? Like you said the human ear can only hear between 20hz and 20,000Khz. Also do the headphones work good for all genres of music? I listen to all genres of music and I've heard in headphones like Skull Candies that they are only good for songs with a ton of bass and I'd like some good all around headphones.

@saleen737 A lot of people like the xb500 more, because they have a smaller driver. Same amount of power goes to both of them, and it takes more power to move a bigger drive. If you are listening off an ipod these are not the headphones for you, you need an equilizer such as audiosandbox, because out of the box they are over bassy, which muds up the mids and highs.

@saleen737 Hell yeah, good for music and movies. For gaming it depends on the type of game. For mmo's they are great, because they are comfortable and have good sound quality, same thing for racing. But for first person shooters, they would be ok, because they do isolate the sound, but they are not surround sound, like 5.1 or 7.1(which cost the same as these headphones). And you have to remember that they dont have a mic.

Hi! Great review, i have the xb700's and i will say that they are fantastic. All my friends say that they are massive and i do agree with them. The only reason why i didn't buy the 500's is cause they leak quite a bit and i don't want to disturb people sitting next to me.

@mrinvincible8 They are just a little "too" big. you do get a more clear sound, but the 500's are just more suited for the average listener. if you're a stay at home, love music to the fullest, then do the 700's pretty much it's a matter of your own opinion. they are both amazing.

@mrinvincible8 You sir are looking for the Sony MDR-XB500's They'll suit you nicely and won't be disappointed. After dealing with the 700's for a few weeks, I've found them to be a tad overkill BUT THIS IS NOT TO SAY THEY ARENT WORTH IT. :)

Fantastic, very informative review. You covered all the essential information well. I have the XB500 and i love these headphones. I find the the XB700 are overkill and just to big for me. The 500 are a niece midpoint headphone in this series with a fine balance of all features.
