I love Spooks -it's quality stuff. One of the best shows on TV.

The whole rooftop scene between Harry and 'Lucas' breaks my heart, I just can't watch it through without getting teary-eyed. What a brilliant performance by Richard Armitage throughout Season 9...particularly in the last 2 episodes when things really come unstuck for Lucas/John. IMO he should have won a BAFTA for this work, or at least been nominated. I'll definitely be watching all his future work. ; )

Curiosity got the better of me as I searched for season nine clips and this piece came up, then I just had to share this information with the "guy'" stalker who made the last comment (only kidding, that's my sister, really). Anyway, those of us in the states are absolutely disillusioned about Lucas' possible demise. Okay, Armitage's Army, start your assault over there! Writer's beware...

What are the writers thinking? They must be the same writers that had Sir Guy kill Marion. How many times do we have to see Richard die? In the US we won't see season 9 for another year, we are just now getting ready for season 8. Knowing what they do to him I am not even looking forward to 9. Come to the US Sir Guy, we'll treat you right.

Series 9 was the worst one out of the lot IMO. Don't know who was in charge but they should of focused on something like N.Korea or China not just touch upon it and have nothing happen.

Hoping they make up for it in series 10!

Series 9 is probably the worst series bar series 6 in spooks history. The whole lucas gone bad arc was just too badly expanded. There was the fact that lucas/john was confused and wanted to get away from it, but it was poorly told out. Ah well, hope they can get a better series 10 comeback like what they did in series 7. BTW, 7777th viewer, so good luck on my wish!!!!!!!!

@42LightYears Yes, but then the cut on his forehead is 1/100th of the continuity FAIL of espec. the last 2 episodes, of what has Not been a stellar series 9. The actors are BEYOND AMAZING, espec. RA & NW, but I'm pretty ticked off that the writers were allowed to butcher characters, with idiotic plots, bad motivation, clunky dialogue & violated basic psychology. Lucas, bad? Okay. Then they took it one step too far, all for a Dramatic "Oh-Spooks!"-moment. No. This is no longer SPOOKS/MI-5.

@ExJetCityWoman Personally, I thought episodes 7 and 8 were brilliant. The consistant anilation of characters is extremely irritating; Tariq has nothing on Malcolm. But i think by killing Lucas they've widened the chance to bring back previous characters (Tom, Zoe etc). I adore the show and think Kudos have certainly upped their game since series 8. If, however, they were to kill Harry or Ruth next season, the programme would undoubtly loose momentum.

@42LightYears I have no problem with them killing Lucas off. But it was *how* they did it that I objected to. They went one step too far. They denigrated his character, and in such as stupid manner, and destroyed the character in an utterly nonsensical way PRIOR to killing him off. And, unfortuantely, I think it was all just for effect and ratings. That's what I object to. To me it's simply lazy writing and lousy storytelling. They even made me dislike Ruth & Harry! Yikes!

Personally I thought Lucas' death was brillaint; they haven't written a spook out through a jump suicide before. A shot to the head would be boring.

@42LightYears I thought Lucas's plotline was stupid and completely illogical, it made everyone looked like idiots and MI5 the laughing stock of the town, not to mention the plot-holes the size of the grand canyon! I didn't care that his death was a suicide, but how they got him there was idiotic. They took a great character and ruined his integrity and his loyalty.

As for Harry and Ruth, Ruth is still cool, but a part of me will never forgive Harry for not trying hard enough to save Lucas.

Go & talk to those lazy writers about betrayal! Harry has become such a sanctimonious prat that he needs to be punched in the nose. Frankly, if they were looking for ratings, they should just have had Lucas push HARRY off the roof! And they copped out, so not even Richard Armitage knows for sure if Lucas is dead or not.

No, I don't think Lucas went a little insane. I think the writers decided to create a whole new character. Based on nothing. Which made no sense. Except a desire for an "Ohhhh-SPOOKS!"-moment and ratings. For me?

Watching episode 8 was like watching Hamlet, the disintegration of a personality as he slides into complete mental breakdown.True drama. I suppose Elizabetha represented security and order, and maybe so had Maya back when he was very young. Vaughan's return had caused a resurgence of all that was past and he couldn't handle it. The guilt, the attempt to find redemption, the dream of paradise lost with Maya. Then exposure and desperation. All the ingredients of tragedy. Well done Spooks I say.

I think spooks deteriorated. Lucas was worse than his predecessor, and him better than the first. It's a pity also the way they "clean out" the cast (bar harry) all the time.
