Do they need to call it "The Last Airbender"? That was the FIRST show's name. It should be "Avatar: Legend of Korra". What, did they have to connect it with the movie or something?

I believe to avoid confusion with James Cameron, but I also think simply due to language translation issues. Something about the word Avatar or something not translating well. This series they just decided to stick with that naming convention for The Legend of Korra.

The modernisation of the settings is awesome, bending is still made of pure eye candy, and Korra's pet is OMG CUTE. There is one thing that disturbs me, though.
Korra is about 17, and 70 years passed since the original series ended. Aang died at the age of 65?! What the hell happened to him? Kyoshi lived for 230 years, and Aang is supposed to be a much more spiritual character than her.
And yes, he was actually 165 years old, but physically he was only 65.
@cseeter I guess we'll find out. Also, they mentioned that the world they're in is based on the 1920's and the Early Depression. So expect Cars and Bikes to be present. Also, expect that some settings will look more like New York, Malaysia and California.

I realize something sad about Aang statue, since most Avatar statue look like them at the end of there life, that would mean Aang pass away pretty young.
@gig0n5 it's not his official Avatar statue, from the looks of it. I think it's a statue of him when he had just freed the region from Fire Lord Ozai, and worked with Zuko to usher in the beginning of a new age.

This is the kind of action girl I've always wished as a character of an anime or cartoon even just a side character would do and finally that wish came true! A girl protagonist who smiles while fighting, strong, hot-blooded and is not a faux action girl! I can't waaiiiit!!!
@leaderofstarclan I'm not saying they have a monopoly on good animation. And of course not everything they do is high quality, but when it's supposed to be good, the result is amazing. (I'd prefer Ghibli over Disney any day, visually AND content-wise.) That being said, I know that many American shows get animated in Korea nowadays, and obviously both sides are influenced by each other. But I still think perfect animation remains an exception in "Western" art works.
@FarhanC99 I think the problem is name recognition. Hypothetically, some Cameron fan sees a show labeled Avatar, expecting it to be a show adapted from that movie. Said fan gets pissy when its not big-smurfy-cats and complains about it. One thing leads to another and we got Cameron's lawyers fighting with Nick's lawyers. Even though Nick's lawyers would probably win, the legal battle would be expensive regardless of that. I think Nick just wants to avoid the hassle by not using the name.

@cseeter I guess we'll find out. Also, they mentioned that the world they're in is based on the 1920's and the Early Depression. So expect Cars and Bikes to be present. Also, expect that some settings will look more like New York, Malaysia and California.

@gig0n5 it's not his official Avatar statue, from the looks of it. I think it's a statue of him when he had just freed the region from Fire Lord Ozai, and worked with Zuko to usher in the beginning of a new age.

That guy is Bolim, and he's voiced by P.J. Byrne, whereas Sokka was voiced by Jack DeSena.
I am betting though that he's gonna fulfill a similar role to sokka in the new Team Avatar.

@leaderofstarclan I'm not saying they have a monopoly on good animation. And of course not everything they do is high quality, but when it's supposed to be good, the result is amazing. (I'd prefer Ghibli over Disney any day, visually AND content-wise.) That being said, I know that many American shows get animated in Korea nowadays, and obviously both sides are influenced by each other. But I still think perfect animation remains an exception in "Western" art works.

@FarhanC99 I think the problem is name recognition. Hypothetically, some Cameron fan sees a show labeled Avatar, expecting it to be a show adapted from that movie. Said fan gets pissy when its not big-smurfy-cats and complains about it. One thing leads to another and we got Cameron's lawyers fighting with Nick's lawyers. Even though Nick's lawyers would probably win, the legal battle would be expensive regardless of that. I think Nick just wants to avoid the hassle by not using the name.

I have to stop coming back to this every day, at this rate 2012 is never going to come. :/ And yeah, for a western tv show the animation is absolutely top-notch, definitely has an anime feeling to it and what the exec producer said about them having the best animation team is totally warranted. Makes me look forward to what they're gonna unleash at those pro-bending matches. ... Btw, TOPH'S DAUGHTER! She'll be bamfing all over the place.

@aiblaq What do you mean "for a western tv show" ? The animation is absolutely top-notch for any tv show. Anime isn't some top standard that all cartoons need to conform to or else they are less than what they are.

This reminds me of sitting with my sister on the edge of our couch watching the trailers for new season 2 episodes all those years ago. Not daring to touch the remote lest we accidently flip the channel. Indeed, hardly daring to breath. Oh me! Such nostalgia. But I can’t wait to begin this new journey with Korra!
