@AWonderingWarrior Ummm... obviously because they allowed Rare to use the Donkey Kong license? DK Country made Rare the company they were for a decade. If it had been an original game with different characters, it would have been great but would not a true classic. Sad but true.
Microsoft owns Rare stock, and see what they've done? Forced Rare to do Kinect stuff and not great adventure games. Nintendo helped Rare in every way they could.
Perfect Dark & Goldeneye outside the top 5. Hmm. Rare games should dominate the top 10 because Nintendo owe a lot to them for developing on that platform.

Argh!! CBFD had the best graphics and sounds mate, JFG had nothing compared to that game, it's album and cartridge are over $100 by a landslide.

I'll be honest, and this is just my opinion, but I'm not all that into Super Mario 64. I thought it was ok letting people know what the N64 was capable of but I don't see myself playing it anymore. Other games like Zelda (of course) Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye 007, Conker's BFD, and Paper Mario is what I'll always play. Super Mario 64 on the other hand kinda aged badly with me. And ever since I played Super Mario Galaxy I didn't need to play SM64 anymore. Please no hate just expressing my opinion.
So which games are you missing off the 64? my favorite still has to be Perfect Dark! the introduction of Bots and diversity of levels and weapons is stunning. The natural progression from Goldeneye which I believe has a cultural significance in minds of the youth of this generation! Zelda is a GREAT series, but I definitely like Metal Gear more, and of course Star Ocean. I'd have to say that my favorite series of this generation would have to be BioShock, which also has some of the best Collector's Editions. And Dead Space. Not the best Collector's but definitely an expanding universe that is worth taking a look at if you like sci-fi and/or horror.

i completely agree with the top 5 its spot on, however am i the only one that would add conkers bad fur day in at least 5 or 6? that game was hilarious. and no other game made me enjoy playing with friends more than this game. apart from golden eye.
Best N64 games in my opinion and still in my 10 favourite games of all time across the board are Zelda: OOT and Perfect Dark! truly great games and will always be remembered! Shame about what happened to the N64 though as it fizzled out in such a bad way. Nintendo just let the N64 get taken over by terrible 3rd party companies in the end which killed the console dead. Plus Dream cast, when that came out it stumbled N64. However, tell you the truth Dream Cast was the worst console in my opinion!
Good list, I would've added Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie, and I've always thought MM is better than OoT, it just has such an amazing dark atmosphere that I've never seen in another game to this day.
I agree with most, but I wouldnt have put F-Zero up there, its just not me, but hey I was very suprised to see JFG up there. Arguabley one of the best games of all time. They need to do a re-release on Xbox Live Arcade
@Madd3n117 OK I am going to be controversial here and something that angered me. I think Rare had a problem of messing up their games after about 2/3s the way into them. Why I say this is because to begin with I absolutely loved Jet Force Gemini but after about half way into the game you were forced back through all the levels again and made to collect every single thing in order to progress. That to me ruined the great experience. Rare did that a lot with their stuff! Like Diddy Kong Racing too
Well after going and watching your 25-11, I'd like to ask: What do you think of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, and Diddy Kong Racing? Two of the best N64 games, in my opinion!
@YummyBananaFish I never got into Goemon back in the day, so I don't have any kind of connection to it really.
Diddy Kong is great, but I do prefer more "pure" experiences, like Mario Kart. Diddy Kong has it all, and people love it for that, but to me it's a bit distracting.
I remember playing F-Zero X for the first time when I was about 8 years old and very soon after that I considered it my favorite racing game of all time. I love all the characters and level design and it really deserved to be on this list. I was really happy to see you put it on this list but especially I was surprised. :)

I fully agree with what you said about F-Zero X - it's the best F-Zero and still a joy to play because of the smooth 60fps.
GX is a nice game, and I like it a lot, but it's very Daytona in feel, and I would have liked a proper Nintendo made sequel instead. Sega did good, but I think Nintendo could have done something more magical.
I really love the N64 - which I always played much more than the PS1. WaveRace was, and still is my favourite game for the system.
Good choice, however (for me) Jet Force Gemini wouldnt make #4. I do like the game,but It lacked the usual Rare polish (controls were abit awkward&clunky and the graphics framerate did spoil the fantasticaly large levels). The storyline was so-so, but some of the level design abit generic and often confusing.
For me, MDK started the genre (it was 2 years earlier than GFG), and did it alot better on the PC...
Spot on video, you clearly know your N64 gaming :) Good calls on Pilotwings and JFG - the musical score in that game is astonishing. The only game I would not include so highly is Majora's Mask - as wonderful as it is, it's still my least favorite 3D Zelda.
mm sm64 and even oot SUCK!!! come on guys! i got tired of sm64 and mm and oot are too boring at first to get to the actully kinda fun parts! if you thumb down this comment then that prooves your stupid for loving these games! i like sm64 but its not in my top 10! i hate mm and oot!
An excellent list. If I was to disagree with you then my main problem would be F-Zero X being so high, I do not rate it personally, I think the game cheats and the rubber banding effect of opponents and dodgy physics at inappropriate times spoilt the game a bit.
Still though, a fantastic top 25, I enjoyed watching it.
Including Yoshi's Story in the Top 25 I'm surprised you haven't included Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It rarely gets any mention in any of these lists despite being a great expansion on what Yoshi's Story had started :(
I think the Zelda series has to be the best game series...EVER. But idk if OoT is better than MM... I think they're both equally epic just with opposite atmospheres. MM was a lot harder for me, but that didn't affect the fun I had playing it!
@MercuryIsBurning True that, majoras mask was really hard compared to OoT, I remember dying on the damn water temple fish boss so many times lol. And the mask transformations were really creepy, nice atmosphere!

Mario Tennis!!! Even though that game got a little bit attention, I still think it was underrated.... It was just incredible... the controlls the graphics then sound was masterful on that game :) if u do not have,, buy it.

Yes, it is underrated. Ocarina invented a lot of the stuff so it gets credit for it, but especially MM's plot and overall melancholy tone are really unique. Not just in Zeldas, but in games generally.

Gotta say, i don't think Ocarina of Time aged very well, or at least not as good as A Link to the Past. Can't help but get annoyed with the "Nintendo fog" and the crude graphics. A Link to the Past looks and plays just as amazing now as it did back in the day. But OoT is still a great game, and mos def on my Top 10 N64 list too.

I remember playing F-Zero X for the first time when I was about 8 years old and very soon after that I considered it my favorite racing game of all time. I love all the characters and level design and it really deserved to be on this list. I was really happy to see you put it on this list but especially I was surprised. :)

f-zero is pretty cool but I really feel that extreme-G is one of the best racers of all time. Mainly the first one, the second was alright.
And talk about nostalgia. I used to own most every game on this and the 25-11 list. The n64 was a big part of my childhood imagination.

I had an n64 as a kid and want to get back into gaming on it. I want your suggestion on some games I should buy from eBay, preferably under $25. I fully agree with what you said about F-Zero X - it's the best F-Zero and still a joy to play because of the smooth 60fps.
GX is a nice game, and I like it a lot, but it's very Daytona in feel, and I would have liked a proper Nintendo made sequel instead. Sega did good, but I think Nintendo could have done something more magical.
I really love the N64 - which I always played much more than the PS1. WaveRace was, and still is my favourite game for the system.

Good choice, however (for me) Jet Force Gemini wouldnt make #4. I do like the game,but It lacked the usual Rare polish (controls were abit awkward&clunky and the graphics framerate did spoil the fantasticaly large levels). The storyline was so-so, but some of the level design abit generic and often confusing.
For me, MDK started the genre (it was 2 years earlier than GFG), and did it alot better on the PC...

Spot on video, you clearly know your N64 gaming :) Good calls on Pilotwings and JFG - the musical score in that game is astonishing. The only game I would not include so highly is Majora's Mask - as wonderful as it is, it's still my least favorite 3D Zelda.

An excellent list. If I was to disagree with you then my main problem would be F-Zero X being so high, I do not rate it personally, I think the game cheats and the rubber banding effect of opponents and dodgy physics at inappropriate times spoilt the game a bit.
Still though, a fantastic top 25, I enjoyed watching it.

Including Yoshi's Story in the Top 25 I'm surprised you haven't included Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. It rarely gets any mention in any of these lists despite being a great expansion on what Yoshi's Story had started :(

I think the Zelda series has to be the best game series...EVER. But idk if OoT is better than MM... I think they're both equally epic just with opposite atmospheres. MM was a lot harder for me, but that didn't affect the fun I had playing it!

Also the hiatus of 1080 Snowboarding is a definite miss but the fact that you mentioned Ogre Battle 64 on your list makes up to it. But like I said at the beginning, great list.

Yes, it is underrated. Ocarina invented a lot of the stuff so it gets credit for it, but especially MM's plot and overall melancholy tone are really unique. Not just in Zeldas, but in games generally.

Gotta say, i don't think Ocarina of Time aged very well, or at least not as good as A Link to the Past. Can't help but get annoyed with the "Nintendo fog" and the crude graphics. A Link to the Past looks and plays just as amazing now as it did back in the day. But OoT is still a great game, and mos def on my Top 10 N64 list too.
