I work on cars and it seems that my mustang is less reliable than my friends hondas. NOT all foreign cars. They dog the shit out of those old honda motors for a year before they throw a rod or blow a head. Yes, i do all the maintenance and run mobile 1. But, yes I was wrong to say junk.

I have a buddy who had an '02 wrx and he had the worst time with his motor, had the top end and the bottom end all serviced at separate times and he maintained it well with oil changes every 3000, etc. I guess it all depends. Another friend of mine has a v6 stang and has had no issues whatsoever with it in the 3 years he's owned it. It's the luck of the draw I suppose.

If you buy a car new and don't do any maintenance at all for the first 50k than its gonna mess up later even if you start doing the maintenance... I have a friend with a 92 chevy truck with the 5.7L and he keeps it up. its got 260,000 miles and running strong... He had rebuild the transmission though. But thats understandable...

All that said... nothing more than CAI, Ive done 9.41 on 1/8th mile. statistically this calculates to appx 14.4 on 1/4mile, not too shabby for a really nice grocery-getter, daily driver if I do say so myself.

We laugh at VTEC because the average ricer thinks it's some magic technology that turns their grocery getter into a race car.
In reality, VTEC allows Honda to inflate the HP rating of an engine by putting the aggressive cam far beyond what the average driver would rev to. Without VTEC, they'd have use bigger displacement and more aggressive cams throughout the entire rev band to stay competitive with other brands.
In short, VTEC hurts performance. That's why we laugh at ricers.

that 1.6 Si is trash, my 06 2.0 Si with just bolt ons, walks gti's. along with the new wrx. not the sti, just the wrx. everyone underestemates me. im pushing 230 to the wheels, no tune, no turbo. all motor.

@Hordasx9 well ford particularly is not doing bad in handling anymore. idk if youve seen but the mustang gt came within .09 seconds of the m3 in the test they did on a road course. and the boss models beat the audi r8 v8 on laguna seca

that vid shows a gti 1.8t vs 1.6n/a si civic.and that n/a 1.6l that has yet to be boosted ,stress free motor was keepn up with that gti.there is a video that has the si boosted and it spanked the gti really bad

@JDM417 honda just tries to get everything out of their motor that they can. vw has been using the same motor since the 80's. all they did with the 1.8 is add a small turbo. same with the 2.0. vw makes a better all around car.

We laugh at VTEC because the average ricer thinks it's some magic technology that turns their grocery getter into a race car.
In reality, VTEC allows Honda to inflate the HP rating of an engine by putting the aggressive cam far beyond what the average driver would rev to. Without VTEC, they'd have use bigger displacement and more aggressive cams throughout the entire rev band to stay competitive with other brands.
In short, VTEC hurts performance. That's why we laugh at ricers.
