@uHTPuGaHT because they need them. if it was just them then they probably wouldnt produce the albums as fast as they do. they just help with tuning and effects they dont write the music
What else sounds like this? No other band puts in the work to be this original or dynamic. A good song like this sounds good in any style. If you're a fan of Muse, please check out my funk-pop trumpet arrangement of this. It's some funky shit for real....
just because it is a bass doesn't mean it should sound like a bass. An instrument is only the tool used to achieve the sound. If it sounds good; it is good. Besides a synth keyboard will not sound like a bass with synth processing. Tradition is the enemy of progress, and though they might not be categorized in the genre Muse is a progressive rock band.
One thing i dont get it, why is an engineer setting up a tone for the musician. imo thats the problem problem with nowadays music, engineers are tought of what "sounds good" instead of letting the musicians make the music and decide how they want it to sound. Sound engineer is there to record not to create.
@VarykGerai Chris can decide for himself what he wants, but speaking from experience an engineer knows how to get the desired sounds much better than the musician. They may know what they want, but not how to get it
engineers are essential in a recording progress.. they are the ones who know what to do when recording the sound a musician has created for himself. recording is not simply pressing rec, it's about where to place what mic, what room and equipment to use, and mostly having a set of very good ears. muse have great sounding albums, and that's because they've worked with great personnel
@VarykGerai That was the producer ya dick and that's what the producer is there for. The creative part of making an album doesn't stop at the artist, anyone thats in a studio whist something is getting done can have an opinion on what something should sound like(the final choice resting with the producer) And since the engineer has the most knowledge about sound in that room why shouldn't he be the one making the sound.
sound engineer - one who engineers sound... ya idiot
@VarykGerai I never mentioned anything about the sound in that room, what I said was in a studio the engineer is the person with the most knowledge of sound. How is the sound in that room not relevant for a studio recording ? did I miss the part of studio recording where sound doesn't matter ?
@RYANWASON234 "And since the engineer has the most knowledge about sound in that room why shouldn't he be the one making the sound" thats what you said, you are indeed an idiot.
@VarykGerai i wasn't talking about the sound in that specific room, he is the person with the most knowledge of sound in that room.
if you lined up a bin man a sound engineer and a plumber, then the sound engineer would be the one with the most knowledge of sound... and lets not forgot who thinks bassets should be aloud near anything that adjusts tone ;) im not the one who is an idiot
As far as I've discovered, there's only one man with a beer in his hands more often than me, and that's Chris. Loves a beer, doesn't he? Every "casual" video you see of Muse, Chris has got a lager on the go. Big bloke as well. I bet he could drink 20 in the time I've had 8. Then stand up and own any musician on a bass. Whilst singing. ^_^
Lol, umm, I think so. It doesn't sound like Matt, Dom or Tom (Their video tech), so it's probably just some studio tech. The fact he's giving opinions (Like when he said "Think milky piano") only supports that he is in fact, a studio tech.
@HLGGanoth Yeah you're right - it's definitely not a band member, nor is it Rich Costey (the producer)'s voice. Maybe it's my voice, and my dreams finally came true but I don't remember because of the rift in timespace.
It's interesting listening to this because on the track I hear the bass and everything but I never thought it sounded like this. It's cool how their songs come together in the end.
I suggest its a slight chorus effect, +compression with long sustain, + a fuzz twin envelope filter pedal,+ Akai SB-1Deep Impact set on Preset number 6 with custom parameters, and maybe a slight distortion. Akai SB-1 preset 6 makes your tone sound like the sky is getting ripped apart. Use 1 Tube rig on clean linked to 1 solid state rig with effects. Blend levels to create a punchy death rattle that never sacrifices upper register tones.
which is exact the way nearly every song they have recorded with bass effects are reorded by muse. they have 2 layers of bass. a clean one and one with effects. its how they do it live aswell.
I WANT TO KILL THAT FUCKING CAT AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris can be proud of his wife. He should be very thankful to her for staying with him through his addiction to alcohol.
Things like that can ruin families. Very happy families.
I´m glad and happy for them that they made it!!!!
Applause for Chris that he made that finally. And successful.
Cheers!!!!!!

I can't understand why he has to drown the natural bass sound with effects all the time! He may as well ditch the bass and use a synth! Awful!

When you don't understand that, you don't understand the music they make! It's their style!

Please enlighten me!

for wider string spacing, nothing to do with tone, just ease of play ;)
