I wouldn't exactly call this basic.

The style using one to two shadow tones with relatively clear edges as well as one highlight tone or so is commonly called cell shading, though.

In Japan they don't have a distinction between 'l' and 'r' sounds. It's a mixture of both. The way you pronounce it doesn't change if you were pronouncing it right to begin with. ^-^

With the dark green, how do you set the layers so that they completely cover the green.

I use a different program (SAI paint tool) and I don't know what to set my layers to to color my pictures like that...

heres how u make 2 LAYERS the u us the 2COND ON WITCH SHOD BE ON TOP to line it then us the second to color if u want nore layers STAY ON THE ON UR COLORING AND MAKE ANOTHER

The point of the green is that when you are putting in lighter colors for the base it helps to have a dark backround so that you fill in all the places.

the green was to make sure that you didn't leave anything out. Its very easy to miss something important with a white background.If you know how to use the gradient tool in certain ways then you can cg hair with an interesting effect. However I usually just make a base color and put the brush opacity down to 17% and go over it with shading and then highlights. Its easier that way and makes a gradient effect.

Try using a 10% blur. That should soften it a bit. It looks like a 10 to 20% blur.

They're using a default hard-edged brush with opacity and flow jitter on. Go under the Brushes palette in Photoshop to turn them on (under Window > Brushes or in the upper right-hand corner of the screen).
