It's a good shot - you can't expect the deer to fall immediately at a shot in the lungs/heart. If the deer is stressed, it can run hundreds of meters, even with a perfect shot. The guy placed the shot well, and it didn't destroy too much meat, and the deer wasn't too stressed either. Well shot!

When was the last time that you so called experts saw a deer react like that after being shot in the gut? The shot may have been a bit further back than is ideal but it no doubt hit a vital organ for it to stagger and drop the way it did. Here in Scotland we have the advantage of managing large numbers of deer, red, sika and roe and often see that reaction when clipped in the lungs/heart. That animal was large, takes a bit of killing regardless of calibre unless shot in the neck or head.
