@minxyzebra My Dad may have known your Dad he wasn't in this (he had left about two years prior) but if he had been in it earlier he would have probably known him then!) I think some family friends are in here though.
This is amazing!!! I was there with the US 25th Infantry Division Band. We all stayed at an Australian base with all the other bands. What scene that was! I played in jam sessions with some of these guys at the enlisted club after hours. This is priceless, thank you so much for posting it. It brings back a lot of great memories!
malkai said that this was a great performance from the NZ band ... he is a horn player for the Nanuku street brass band and they normally play twinkle twinkle little star for band tatoo hia in fiji ..... this was an eye opener for him and his band director Tusoba which they will try out somthing different this year tatoo in fiji they were thinking of playing something differ from last year this is an highlight tune call Brother Peter
excelente banda.yo soy director de una banda militar en BOGOTA ( COLOMBIA) y la verdad me interesaría poder ponerme en contacto con ustedes para participar en este tipo de eventos. agradezco cualquier respuesta.
Really great to see some old faces, better still listen to great sounds and marching. Well done the band members back then, enjoyed the show then and now. Taken in Melbourne? I note the band is still as great as ever.
The whites were NEVER uncomfortable! Much preferable to the reds and easier to iron!! The pants were also lighter too. This band is the combination of The NZ Army band based in ChCh NZ and the 1RNZIR band based in Singapore. The White uniform was the 1RNZIR uniform and was phased out after withdrawal from Sg in 1989...the whites were tailored in Sg to the best of my recollection...
The New Zealand Combined Army Band was invited as a guest of the Australian Military Tattoo of 1988.....celebrating 200 years of tradition.
This band, without a doubt, the knockout of the whole show. No other military band had ever tried something as irreverent and remained hard core at the same time.
This clip shows a whole new tradition back in 1988 that the New Zealand Army Band is now famous for.
Just enjoy you have seen the first attempts at a great idea.
@jmaxg This really makes people proud to be a kiwi and does show people that we are not "inside the box thinkers" Feels good now to be a kiwi even more.
I didn't know the NZ Army had these uniforms! Is the simplification of uniforms just a cost-cutting measure? It'd be great to get the whole range back---the Australian Army does just fine being informal Aussies while having the entire range of uniforms, including Patrol Blues and Generals frocks.
I think these were just the band uniforms at the time, they now wear red jackets. If you go to the NZ Army website and look up the band, you'll see - or check out some of their other performances here on youtube.
I have seen them. The most important thing is that they are good musicians, and they are great---good to see the music's not gone down with time!
IMO these white uniforms are "more authentically Kiwi" to me since at least it reflects the (modern) historical era of the band, rather than pretending to be historical with the red jacket thing. (But I fuss too much about minor details.)
The white uniform was for hotter climates. It was made of lighter material. The red uniforms were 100% wool to hot for Brisbane where this video was shot.
Whats the song on 5:41 ?
