Wow they sure did add a lot of lines that aren't in the book. I absolutely loved the but, I thought it was a masterpiece so it bugs me a little that they strayed from it but I'll still watch.
I am most shocked by this story. Was it true? If so, white americans are a poor excuse of human beings. How could you be so ignorant, so mean? Black people, as well as aboriginal people, as any race have been made the same in the eyes of God. If those white americans were so religious, they have certainly skipped some chapters of the bible. I am white and I want to offer my sincere sympathy for black people's cause. Racism should be punished harshly.
"The Help" was a great movie to me. I wasn't going to watch this movie at first, but I noticed it talked about life in Jackson Mississippi (particularly Jackson) during the civil rights era so I thought I will watch it. I first watched this movie on my way back from Paris on my Air France flight. I really enjoyed. Congratulations on its Screen Actors Guild Awards wins last night. It is truly deserving of an Oscar win next month.
I am from the United States, and I wish this was the trailer released, because it centers so much on the character of Aiblieen and Viola Davis's Oscar worthy performance.
@TheRandomNess77 I agree. I liked her performance, but I thought she was too pretty to be Skeeter. I always pictured Skeeter as plain, freckled and gangly.
This is a very good movie (I give 5 stars), very touching eye opening for some and very well made, if you are looking for a blockbuster or if you are sensitive to this subject this is not a movie for you. what i also enjoyed that they didnt rush the story I found the length appropriate.
The absolute BEST movie of the year!!!!! I just got done watching this & I'd watch it again in an instant! The characters are multifaceted, the story line will keep you drawn in...you'll laugh, you'll cry...it's just awesome!! Definitely going to add this one to my collection! Ten stars!!
I'm sorry, but I just don't believe Meryl Streep should win the Oscar. My first pick is Viola Davis. Viola was incredibly REAL as Aibileen, and that was a very special role for her to play. She managed to tug at the heartstrings of most people who saw "The Help." If she doesn't win, though, I want Michelle Williams to win for "My Week With Marilyn." She played a very believable Marilyn Monroe.
I have never seen a movie that has both enraged me and elated me at the same time like this one did. I've never laughed or cried so hard in the same movie. I've never seen such good people and evil people in the same movie. I've never felt such horror at what people are capable of believing, or had such hope for what people can ultimately accomplish. As a writer, Skeeter is the type of person I want to be.
This movie is a masterpiece, and it should be viewed by everyone.
if you have read the book, watching the trailer to this movie shows you exactly what Hollywood does to nearly every controvercial topic.... it sanitizes it and turns it into a "feel good", comedic flick with a happy ending and characters who all get along in the end.
If you want to watch a feel good-about-myself movie, watch this one... If you want to get a real sense of the feelings and emotions of this story, do yourself a favor and actually read the book.
Self aggrandizing, sanctimonious, emotional voyeurism of the worst possible kind. Cringeworthy and embarrassing for anyone who takes the time (or cares) to read between the lines. (I bet this comment is not published either - makes me wonder why you want to suppress the uncomfortable truth?)
@Iceminer24 it seems you are the only person on here who can put themselves in someone else's shoes. I find it quite shocking that some people are saying its, funny, the best movie etc, etc ... wow! - maybe they don't have any black friends, or they like to remember when they used to "be boss" over black people - no wonder racism will never go away. When my black friends watch this, they say it humiliates them and makes it harder for them to not to dislike white people they don't already know.
@thejaybee84 - the point is, this movie tells the truth of how white Americans treated black Americans at that time. Where I live, (not in USA) many people didn't know this was the situation for so many black women, and can hardly believe this was actually the way it was! - Of course parts of the movie are funny- black people do have a sense of humour and humour is often used as a coping mechanism in hard times. This movie is inspiring proof that racial discrimination is borne out of ignorance.
great movie.. thankfully, we've progressed ... in some ways. There are still plenty of people out there who still have feelings of superiority over blacks.. Hispanics, Asians,... etc.
I read the book but later learned read in a newspaper that the main servant on whom the story is based knew nothing about the book and is not at all happy.
it advertizeds like a comedy when its a move about raceizem and hate to black people in the 1940's its sad and it is all true but the director should have made the ad to fit in with the move when they fouces on all the happy parts about the move
@palsharpton..i don't know what movie you were watching but this movie is one of the best movie ever..you must not have a sense of humor or just don't have good taste in movies lol!...this movie is a must go watch :)

I love Emma Stone, I really do. I just had a totally different picture in my head of Skeeter when I read the book... I hope that won't spoil the movie for me...
It seems like a nice movie, its nice to see a movie that's based on true-to-life events, American ppl shouldnt be ashamed of this movie because its part of the ugly history we have! its time to face it, Racism is still ALIVE AND KICKING in the USA....come on.....majority (Republicans...rednecks) doesnt even like their "CURRENT PRESIDENT!" Wow...how patriotic are we? LOL HAHAHAHA!
i don't know what to say about this movie. i might just go back to the movie theater next week to watch it again. man, this must be one of those once-in-a-decade movies

@4EverBrunetteBeauty I haven't seen the movie but I read the book and it doesn't have any really strong scenes, the only thing that makes it a bit for older people is that it has such a strong message behind it :) Actually I would recommend younger people watched it too
@4EverBrunetteBeauty Yes it would be. Its nothing bad, its actually very inspiring. However there is one scene involving something disgusting. Though I think they would be mature enough to get through that part (even with some laughs.) So go see it!
I wonder to myself what the response would have been if a white character had made feces pie and served it to an unwitting, credulous Black character?
i weep for my ancestors everyday. but i feel blessed that i live in a world where blacks can be successful happy and comfortable with who they are :) LIFE IS GOOD!!!
Emma Stone did an AMAZING job on this movie. She played out Skeeter exactly how i saw her when i read the book. She is a brilliant actress and i bet she is going to go far in the movie making. I hope she wins some awards for this<3333333
Well Emma Stone isn't really the reason why I wanna see this. It looks like a good movie yeah, I like her as actress too. She's awesome, funny, amazing and really talented. But this movie looks like a good story. So fuckin' get over yourself.
This film was amazing!!
