is it not obvious that if we're taking about a revenue neutral tax change, that the same amount of money gets drawn out of the economy for government purposes? The difference is that the tax base gets spread to include the underground economy, tourists, illegal immigrants and others. As I sit here digging through paperwork to start trying to prepare for tax preparation, I resent the hell out of the current system and those who deny us an opportunity to scrap it completely.

Because bad things happen to SOME people we must all be stuck with a crappy tax system that steals from us instead of one that lets us voluntarily make a choice to pay based on our purchasing habits? I must have 25 or 30% taken out first and then buy stuff (including RENT) instead of paying a sales tax on products and services at point of sale? Government units might have to pay taxes?!! WHy do you think Fairtax has hid this? Hid the biggest source of revenue? Why do you think they didn't mention it on page one, or 1,000, or one million? Why mention it in the fine print, where they knew no one would read it.

@ItchMyFoot I have read the bill and spoken about the Fairtax publicly and on radio for around 5 years. And I can put up a web site that says whatever I want or highlights whatever negatives about any subject I desire just like anyone else. I am not gong to let "perfect" be the enemy of "better". A massive hidden tax on city and state government would make it a farce. Did you know that this massive tax exists? Did you know why it's hidden?

What kind of plan has a trillion dollar revenue stream HIDDEN in once sentence? What kind of plan hides it's main source of revenue?

There is nothing voluntary about it. You gotta be kidding. Cancer patients must pay 100K in sales tax on their average battle with breast cancer, for example. How is that voluntary?

Oh, you mean cause you can buy used stuff? Ever hear of used rent?

I'm all in favor of the FairTax. The transition might be rough, though. We might have 5 percent inflation, but the increase in take home pay will more than make up for it. After a couple years, everyone will be better off with the FairTax. We'll wonder why it took us so long.
