It might be nice to see how you did the MC stuff - e.g. how did you invite people to the dance floor, how did you transition between events, etc. A good example is how did you transition from Oh What A Night to that polka? Did you get on the mic? Did you beatmix? Did yo do an event and then go back to dancing? I'm an accomplished beatmixer trying to become a better MC, so that stuff is really helpful.
all this can be aviod by communication, and planing.
there have been some cases where I have show up to places with out a clue what the place laid out. but I bring extra cords, etc. and time... but yeah when it comes to dj in hotel is pain in the rear end 99%
one more thing.. gig logs shouldnt be that long. 5 min max. right?
hey nice video i am starting up in the dj service and i seen all your tip videos and they helped me so much the one thing is what is best should i go all in and do weddings and parties and everything or should i do some parties first then get into weddings later because the last thing i want to do is mess up on a wedding gig?
@Essenc3 doesn't being digital make it so much easier for equipment. I do very small gigs bur I've seen other guys with full turntables hilarious watching them walk around
Being a crew guy for a while i had to drag essentially a whole band setup: speakers, lights, amps, kit, drums and everything in between up the narrowest staircase anywhere in the world. Worst thing was that the mic leads had to be across the steps because the interface was on the adjacent wall and so i had to vault the last step too. Did i mention this place was on te 5th floor? Lol i feel for you bro
Maybe you're just lazy... haha. Carry less equipment and learn how get rid of stuff that isn't absolutely necessary. If I go somewhere that already has a house speaker system I literally carry one flight case and a large bag for my laptop, harddrive, wires, etc, and have a friend help carry my monitors and monitor stands. super simple but I'm all digital.
How much was for this in the U.S.A.? This party seemed like it sucked ass big time. I love when people complain at not being good dancers and try to blame the DJ for that. I just laugh and tell them that weddings for me are not surprising at all when I find bad dancers. I should make a compilation of bad/ridiculous dancing at weddings.
In regards to carry shit up, what floor was this? I love working out, so I wouldn't mind getting the shit up.
@greeneyedboriqua - I arrive between 2.5 and 3 hours early usually, but when it takes over an hour to actually get your gear into the building, that eats into your setup time! Thanks for the comment, hopefully others will heed your advice.
damn man i feel for ya bro... been there, sucks!.. but being the pro that u are that's exactly why u ALWAYS arrive early.... I'd rather be really really early than even alitttle bit late..
I had the brilliant idea to put EVERYTHING in a SKB gig rig instead of 2 skb cases for faster set up.... the gig rig weighs 45lbs by itself!! I had 2 guys carry it up stairs for me one time because there was no elevator, and they couldn't believe I pack it in by myself! I'm going back to 2 cases soon
never thought of playing fleetwood mac for the wedding intro. great idea. i might have to try that one. new djs can learn a lot from how u mc a wedding. very comfortable, relaxed and professional on there. great video.

You should always arrive 1-2 hours early for things like this. Anything can happen. Better to be early than to be sorry.

I know how you feel, happen to me 2 to often i'm afraid.
So be on time you guys, if it's not the elevator, it's the traffic or parkinglots, the weather or something else.
But there are never a real xcuse to disapoint a customer, exept for childbirth, illness or your own death.
Sure shit happens but try to be prepared that's the edge you have twords the competition.
take care, and great video
