Typisch Deutsch!! Alle, die hier ihre Kommentare abgegeben haben, denken nur an das, was Dixie im Deutschen bedeutet! Und alle, die gegen die Südstaaten sind, sollen sich das Video verdammt nochmal nicht angucken!!!
Just to clear things up for US/UK people who may think the title "wants the song to die", "Die X" just means "The X" in German :)
Its not a racial song, its a song about loving "the southeast of the US"(Dixie-land) and being willing to die for that reason alone. It doesnt mention black ppl or slaves anywhere.
Since no other nation on Earth needed a war to get rid of slavery, we can safely dismiss this as a reason for the Civil War. The victory of the north probably inspired Bismarck to unite the German states under a strong federal government. Both Germany and the USA would have been better off with stronger states rights.
@grobo11 If only lincoln wasn't a blue belly tyrant, those men would have never had to die. Every state should have the right to claim it's independence without the fear of the yankees marching in.
Even the Union wasn't willing to ban slavery until after the war (read the Emancipation Proclaimation carefully- it treated slaves as property used in the commission of a crime). And whatever the reasons for the war (and slavery was ONE of them), the CSA was more pro-slavery than the Union. Not a likely scenario.
@93Archangel My question is where was this love in the 1860's we could have really used the help in keeping the Yankee mongrels back, Us winning the Civil war might have change ww1 as in Germany might have won, Germany would be stronger, Hitler would not have gained power, Russia would still be 100 years behind everyone and the world a better place.
@XGDRabidPanda In the 1860's the south had slaves at that time period most European countries had abolished slavery. It was one of the reasons the CSA was never recognized as an independent country by any other country in the world. If the South had abolished slavery before or during the war it is quite possible they would have received the the help they needed from some of those European countries like France or the Brits. The CSA seceded over slavery and died over it as well.
@686204 Anyone who honestly thinks that brave and just Southern Men died over slavery is either brain washed or a damn fool. 10% of Southerners owned slaves, the South only made up 30% of the US population yet the North imposed HARD trade agreements, and a Extremely unjust TAX. When it was all said and done the south was paying 80% of the US taxes. So which sounds better! "We won the war and freed the slaves" (the war didnt end it anyway) or "we forced em to pay it anyway" Fuck the North forever
@XGDRabidPanda "I am not ashamed of having fought on the side of slavery a soldier fights for his country right or wrong". I believe the south seceded to protect slavery but I fought for the south because I thought it was my patriotic duty". Both quotes came from John S. Mosby CSA officer and civil war hero. Most southern officers and men felt the same way it was their patriotic duty but that does not mean the war wasn't over slavery.
@XGDRabidPanda Just who was hit hardest by the so called unjust tax not the southern farmer scrapping out a living in the dirt it was the Southern aristocracy who needed slaves to maintain their life style. All you have to do is read the declaration of secession by the southern states to see what the war was about. Also read the cornerstone speech made by the CSA vice president. Just google "war is a racket" and see what most wars are about they are usually for the benefit of the wealthy.
@686204 And all you would have to do is look up quotes and writings by Union leaders and it is clear that the war was over slavery! All I want to know is why does nobody question history why is it everyone views history as "the good guys won!" which is complete bullshit ww1 is a clear example
@XGDRabidPanda The war from the Northern perspective was not about slavery it was about preservation of the Union. Abolishment of slavery was an after thought. When Lincoln took power he said he would not try and abolish slavery in the south however he was prepared to stop expansion of slavery to the territories. The Southern plantation owners took exception this claiming it was against their constituional rights because slaves were their property and they could take them anywhere in America.
@XGDRabidPanda "I didn't sign up to fight for no damn darkies" Fighting for slavery was a political move made by Lincoln to prevent European powers form siding with the confederacy, the European countries already abolished slavery and couldn't side with the south if the war was officially to end slavery.
The origins of the war were over preserving the union. That is straight from the horses mouth, Mr. Lincoln. Slavery was only a small facet of southern culture.
@alexcowart And somewhere that has been lost through out history. I still think it is 100% legal for any state to leave the union, and I think the Northern Government that is occupying my home land is violating my right to not be apart of the empire.
it was not a global war no it was a civil war the only europeans involved where the irish on both sides so the get needen papers ect. so they can rest in peace in the stinkhole u.s.a. so they can make patotoes again sicse there was lack of food back in ireland.
Besides that the dutch men hade black slaves longer than any country in the world so dont get cocky and act like you are smart ore something you're nothing more than a asswhipe
@HansNL14 The British and the French were tempted to help the south, several times they nearly joined in. Read up on your history before you try to smack talk.
@captain2ahab You can say that about anything. Murder is only a rare occurrence in western countries....not to the people who got murdered. Child labor was a small facet of northern economy back then....not for the children who suffered in the dangerous often fatal factories....Just because you personalize something doesn't change anything you are just sensationalizing it.
@alexcowart If a society is based on barbaric slavery there is something wrong in it's core. it is no democracy and it is a society without values and to be honest with no religion too. a society where some people are treated as goods that can be killed and raped is satanic. and by the way child labour was NOT a small facet of the northern economy.
@captain2ahab You do realize that the south used Christianity to support the institution of slavery? It clearly says in the bible that slavery is encouraged/allowed by god.
@alexcowart So true. Licoln didn't even try to end slavery, just the slaves in conquered Southern states. There were even slaves states in the Union throughout the war, the Emancipation Proclamation didn't do jack for them .
for me as a german dixieland is a symbol for independence of a central governement and freedom of action. the question of slaves was secundary i think. i think the war was mainly about fighting for independence of governemental paternalism. i know it sounds a little bit like "idealize something afterwards", but it is mere a symbol. whats wrong with it? ... and yes, as a european it IS part of my history cause the men and their forefathers fighting there were german, english, irish and french.
and i stand for everey movement fighting down governemental paternalism. there is no "Leitkultur" in germany, there are individuals who are free. thats it. so i like the smell of freedom and thus i like dixieland.
@sunzsu "for me as a german dixieland is a symbol for independence of a central governement and freedom of action."

Yes theskiesbelowme it was the 19th century hard to believe man's thinking when we look backwards, I'm sure future generations will sit in wonderment at things that are happening today. ;-D
@jonascord11 You're right of course. Nobody has the right to own another human being. Some people get caught up in the romanticism of the 'Lost Cause' and deny that slavery was even an issue. This is a dangerous lie. However I would say it was more of an economic issue than one of morality. Remember it was the 19th century.
I live in a border state and have ancestors that fought on both sides of the Conflict. My Southern ancestors had no slaves, my Northern ancestors did.
Seeing such support for the American South from all over the world makes me very proud to have Confederate veteran ancestors and to still live in Dixie. Deo Vindice
@crackerHero ;) we have the most fans in Germany. But its the same as Real Madrid or ManU : love the team or hate it ! When u the best u have many who are envious
I might be biased, being a Northerner, but I must say, as a national anthem, this song is ridiculous. Banjos? Really? I like the video itself, however.
I`m not german (austrian) but I also the CSA. There were great & honorable men who fought for their homes, for freedom. Slavery had nothing to do with with the war, Lincoln admitted this cause later when there was a danger that GB & FR could enter the war on the confederacys side.
@Grenadeout I am german and I was 27 when I first heard of this kind of music (and I am not a hillbillie), so I guess it can't be THAT popular here. ;) (I first learned about Dixieland from a 73-year-old man so maybe it's an "oldie" thing.)
@Smaragdwind Excuse you, all of us Americans from the South are not hillbillies. Sorry that I got rude, but seriously. It`s an insult. A stereotype. Vielen Dank, Herr Smaragdwind. No offense, just saying :)
you know there's no problem in having pride that you have ancestors from the Confederacy. I know they lost, but they put up a helluva fight. There really isnt any reason to make fun of them. I'm from New York myself and i say both sides were damn well brave for what they did. That was a terrible war and neither side deserves to be made fun of. We're just lucky that its over.
der süden hat seine unabhängigkei verdient da es in diesem krieg nicht um die skavenbefreiung ging sondern um die erhaltung der union also ist lincoln nichts weiter als ein tyrann ich bin nicht für sklaverei und hasse rassismus
Now now, when South Carolina and the others seceded, they were perfectly within their constitutional rights. It really was an unnecessary war. Anyway, great song, I love my Dixie brothers and sisters!
Oh geeze, Germans saying that the Confederacy was awesome or great is as moronic as Americans thinking that every single German was a full-blooded Nazi.....the confederacy was a failure and a mistake just as the Third Reich was. Both left behind a legacy of hardship and regret.
The Civil war left that legacy, not the Confederacy. Only the foolish and poorly read would state that either side of that conflict was entirely justified or not at all.

Die Südstaaten hätten auf dauer den krieg verloren, egal ob sie sich eingegraben hätten oder angegriffen hätten. Die ganze Industrie und die meisten Menschen lebten in den Nordstaaten.

Yes theskiesbelowme it was the 19th century hard to believe man's thinking when we look backwards, I'm sure future generations will sit in wonderment at things that are happening today. ;-D

Great old song, but what it represents has no place in a civilised world no human has the right to subjugate another.
jonascord11 1 year ago
@jonascord11 You're right of course. Nobody has the right to own another human being. Some people get caught up in the romanticism of the 'Lost Cause' and deny that slavery was even an issue. This is a dangerous lie. However I would say it was more of an economic issue than one of morality. Remember it was the 19th century.
I live in a border state and have ancestors that fought on both sides of the Conflict. My Southern ancestors had no slaves, my Northern ancestors did.

I might be biased, being a Northerner, but I must say, as a national anthem, this song is ridiculous. Banjos? Really? I like the video itself, however.

Grenadeout 1 year ago 21
@Grenadeout

Nice song.
Quote Pratchett: "... and all the other words that get trottet out to put a gloss on slaughter."
There are never images of 17 years old bleeding to death, or the field lazarettes with screaming men, or battlefield surgeries, anyone noticed?

Oh geeze, Germans saying that the Confederacy was awesome or great is as moronic as Americans thinking that every single German was a full-blooded Nazi.....the confederacy was a failure and a mistake just as the Third Reich was. Both left behind a legacy of hardship and regret.
irishryan7 2 years ago
The Civil war left that legacy, not the Confederacy. Only the foolish and poorly read would state that either side of that conflict was entirely justified or not at all.
