  • Oh man, I melt every time.

  • She has a beautiful voice. Found her on XMRadio 40's music

  • I think the world is crying for more music like this.

  • Jo Stafford is my favorite from the war years and later. She has a beautiful voice and rangle. Every song she sings she puts her heart into it. I never get tired of hearing her. May God rest her sole Signed

    A WWII Vet.

  • if i find the person of my dreams i want this to be our song lol thanks

  • god she sings so well and she was just beautiful...why don't they make this music anymore??

  • first-class...

  • This is marvelous. As always.

Does anybody have Stafford singing "Everytime We Say Goodbye"? Charley Hayden used it on one of his discs as a starting point. Don't have that disc anymore, and can't seem to find Stafford singing that song.

  • Very nice version. I also love the Harptones' fabulous cover. Thanks very much.

  • "A Sunday Kind of Love" was co-written by Louis Prima ("Sing, Sing, Sing", "I'm Just a Gigolo", "Jump, Jive, and Wail"). Jo Stafford had one of the most memorable versions of the song.

  • one of the best versions of this tune...great singer

  • I like this version a lot! I like the cheery tone.

  • is she black or white?

  • @berlynn2 White with a soulful sultry voice.

  • I was simply searching for the song Long ago & far away and found Jo Stafford...got hung up too long & couldn't get enough. she was the voice i've been lookin for all this time... seems my soul belongs to the 20s through 50s.

  • may I park my shoes?

  • Etta did it way better. No offense but Jo lacks the soul for this song.

  • a wonderful selection of Jo Stafford's work--she had the voice and style that fueled nostalgia before it was even

in our memories. very good arrangements as well.

Makes me proud of what good taste we had to 'get' her

    when we were young.

    Ric in California

  • I love the double time feel in the horns, very sophisticated. The sidemen on this date are top notch, and the arranger is too. Jo is stellar as usual. Well, it is indeed a treasure, and thanks for posting it.

  • Does anyone know who is the arranger on this track?

  • I was listening to an interview with Billie

Holiday where she was asked who were some of her favorite singers; besides Louie Armstrong she mentioned Jo Stafford; im 24 and had never heard of her. I've spent the last hour listening to her recordinggs on utube: what a voice!

I now understand why Miss Holiday was a fan

  • ya estas mujeres no existen, solo christina aguilera una leyenda viva

  • wow!! i love her voice???

  • Nice song from 1947!!

  • I prefer the first recorded version, that by Fran Warren, with Claude Thornhill Orchestra in 1946, but this sure ain't bad (at all).

  • I have to agree with you on this one. I first fell in love with this song when I heard the Warren/Thornhill version.

  • It's all a matter of taste but I disagree, Etta James sings it ok in her own style but not as the song was written loosing some of the warmth and romantic melody that Jo Stafford' exhibits in her version very well. I just posted the song by Ella Fitzgerald on the original 78 record and her version is also very good, keeping the warm and romantic style this song was intended to have.

  • Difficult as it is to opt for a specific Jo Stafford favourite, this one come very near. I just love this one and I thank you for sharing this gem.

  • Pure magic. Delightful.

  • Great tune! Jo Stafford does a good job on it! Do you have the same version with Jane Froman singing it! She is as good

    as Jo! Thanks trooper7h!

  • When i was young,i would listen to my dads records and tapes.Prob for no other reason than not having many of my own.I have some really fond memories of "you belong to me" and other "oldies".Nice to hear it again, thanks for posting!

  • What a song by the great Jo Stafford. Su musica toca me corazon. Su voz viene de Cielo. En me casa Jo Stafford va a vivir para simpre.

  • is1531,

    Thank you for your comment.:)

    best wishes,

  • Thanks for this, trooper...Hers was, indeed, an exquisite, one-of-a-kind voice! You know it's her just after a few notes! :) I recall hearing her recording of "Manhattan Serenade" years ago, and was on Cloud 9! I haven't heard it in quite a long time...Do you happen to have her recording of that gem? She does such a GORGEOUS job with it (as she does with so very many others!) Thanks, and best wishes.

  • Astoriaguy23,

I have observed your interest in Jo's version of 'Manhattan Serenade' and have uploaded my version of it onto youtube.

You can check it out on my channel.

Thank you for your interest and your comment.:)

    best wishes,

  • I agree with all the comments of praise for Jo Stafford. One of a kind.

My favorite song she ever did is "Long Ago and Far Away," which you can find on Youtube if you haven't heard it.

  • irishman48,

'Long Ago and Far Away' is one of Jo's biggest hits...

However, I struggle to name just one particular favourite...Every time I hear one of Jo's Ballads - it becomes my favourite - until I hear another one.lol

I guess that I'm just in love with everything Jo has done.lol

    Thanks for your comment.:)

    Best wishes,

    trooper7h

  • @irishman48 Yes it is a great song, but my favorite is "I'll Walk Alone" same style, check it out. The original recording I think was Dinah Shore, but Jo's version is fantastic...

  • I came across Jo for the first time through the soundtrack of that unforgettable film "The Last Picture Show", where Jo's fabulous rendition of "You Belong to Me" was heard. Ever since she has been one of my very favourite singers. Her incomparable pitch and the assuredness and purity of her voice, not to mention her impeccably selected repertory, were matchless. What a lovely lady and artist! May she rest in peace, Thank you trooper7h.

  • eguirald,

I could not agree more with the sentiments you have expressed in your comment. Thank you for putting them so eloquently...

    My best wishes to you,

  • This lady is so beautiful in every way, and she is a favorite of mine. She is simply a perfeccionist & reaches the impossible with every song. I'm a young man and she takes to an era that I couldn't know, but still because of her, I love those years before my time. My parents fell in love with her songs in the 1950s in Cuba. Miss Stafford is a gem of a singer, a very precious one. Eternal repose to her soul. We really miss you!

  • Politeama,

Thank you for that very expressive comment.:)

It proves what my generation always maintain... that the music and the singers of our age can cross the age divide and find approval from today's generation..

    my best wishes to you.:)

  • trooper7h, You are very welcome and thank you for posting in YT this great interpretation, exposing a real value of our musical heritage of the highest caliber. It shows your exquisitie taste.

  • Politeama,

Thank you again for your appreciative comment.

I have over 200 recordings by Jo Stafford in my music library and so you can be sure that there will be more posted on YT - google permitting of course.:)

  • Thanks for a great posting ! Do you happen to know if Nat King Cole did this tune ? Which album ? Or was it done by Peggy Lee ?

    Much appreciated. CK

  • playtunes,

I have no copy of Nat 'King' Cole singing 'A Sunday Kind of Love' in my collection and do not know if he ever recorded it.

But thank you for your interest and your comment.:)

    my best wishes to you,

    trooper7h

  • Smooth as silk! This is a wonderful rendition, which I have always considered to be the definitive one.

Thank you for bringing such pleasure with your wonderful postings.

  • Thank you for listening - and your comments.:)

  • I love this, it is super cool, the kind of singing and music that can transport you out of the dullness of the grey and deliver you into a farscape of gentle, warm colours.....The only adjectives I could come up with on the spur of the moment :)

  • angerredfire,

LOL...I couldn't have put it any better myself.

    Thank you for your comment.:)

  • I've never heard this version before. This is the original version of "A Sunday Kind of Love" which was released in 1947 on the Capitol label. The Harptones later remade that song as a doo-wop classic which was six years later in 1953 on a small Bruce label. I have the 45 of the doo-wop version by the Harptones with Willy Winfield as lead vocal.

  • This Beautiful song by by Barbara Belle, Anita Leonard, Stan Rhodes, and Louis Prima, published in 1946.

has had many versions recorded. My own particular favourites are this one by Jo Stafford and a much later one (1988)by Reba McIntyre

    Thank you for your comment.:)

  • the woman is timeless ...... her voice will live on forever and be appreciated by music lovers

  • *****I compliment you on your taste and judgement in singers and music.

    Thank you for your comment.:)

  • Wow. Thank you so much for this video. Music can really make you feel better. My head cold seems so much better after listening to this great song!

  • Thank you for your comment. :)

Hasn't Jo got a wonderful voice? And her treatment of this lovely song is perfect.

I do hope that your head cold is cured now.

    My Best wishes to you.:)

  • They don't make singers like Jo anymore. What a pity for us all.

  • Thank you for your comment.

Sadly the number of great singers from that Era are decreasing as time passes.

However their talent and voices continue to give pleasure to music lovers all over the world.

  • One of the best songs of the early great era!

  • You won't get any argument from me about that...:)

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Thanks to youtube I have been able to re-discover the most wonderful music. I remember Jo Stafford playing on the record player in our house as well as the radio.

  • boxerlph,

The American big band era of the 30's, 40's, & the early 50's, produced such a vast gold seam of singing talent. Those singers are richly embedded in the psyche of my generation - to our immeasurable pleasure.

And Jo Stafford is one of my special favourites, Her voice evokes so many memories...
