  • soo fat :D :D D :D

  • the flip fall looks uncomfortable

  • Thanks for the post man, it's a common misperception that you have to be in good shape to do martial arts I weigh around 290 300 or so and have been taking Shotokan Karate for 8 years or so. I attained my green brown and black belt all after a major knee and ankle injury which required two operations. Diving rolls and break falls can be done by anyone who takes the time to learn correctly. Great video. Oss

  • AWESOME I LOVE IT

  • not ending up in a stable kamae after a dive roll (kaiten ukemi) is a failed roll/ukemi. Your a big guy but you had really nice ukemi, except for loss of balance at the end. Nice slow motion though, i liked it :)

  • Hi. me and my friends do parkour without true professional guidance. and we were wondering for the dive roll. should we come out of it with our off leg tucked in like that or should we come out of it on both feet?

  • @CerealMunchkin I would advise you come up on your feet and not the way I demonstrated it because that is a tatami mat I'm doing it on. You dive on concrete. Hope this helps.

  • @CerealMunchkin i do alittle parkour. mostly tricking and freerunning, check out my videos =D

  • nice roll, only thing i can say is your right foot flopped on the ground very hard, to fix that you have to bend your ankle up on your right foot when dive rolling, what that does is lets you get up right away, and on cement itll hurt less, helped me when i had the "dead fish" leg

  • im a black belt too, and i cant do it even half as good as u bro! -thumbs up!-

  • Awesome ive never seen a fat guy do a dive roll ( no offense at all cuz i cant even do one)

  • @RichardD124 Well to be honest...I wasn't always fat. LOL.

  • That's some good skill there!

    Nice video.

  • @westernys Thanks.

  • kool!!!!!!!!

    practice well

  • dude EPIC DIVE ROLL!!!!

  • Thanks for the comment. You are too kind.

  • DUDE THAT WAS AN AWSOME DIVEROLL!!!

  • Thanks for the comment and thanks for viewing my vids.

  • I'd love to see a step by step on the roll. Thank you! I have practiced some in my LR with the front roll starting from kneeling position. Falling does not concern me much. I have been given Ukemi many times by the horses I train. but still it would be useful to know how to do it in a more controlled manner.

I also have issues with gaining my feet after a back roll... any tips on that? I have knee issues that make it that much harder to accomplish. But I'm still having a blast with Aikido.

  • Thank you so much for posting the vids! I am about 270 and just getting started in Aikido. I'm loving it already but those front rolls worry me a bit. It helps seeing someone bigger than me doing them so well.

  • Hello Cherie. In this video above I was about 330 lbs. I had been taking Aikido at that time for about 5 yrs. I'm glad my video helps you. I now weigh about 284 lbs now and am slowy bringing it down more. If you like I can make you a video step by step on doing the front rolls, falls, back rolls, etc. When I first started Aikido I was 370 lbs and when I learned that you did not have to be in great shape to do this martial arts I thought it was perfect for me. Thank you for viewing my vids

  • i can jump over 6 sheilds but im amazed that a black belt is fat...can he run the 2 mile?

  • Black belt? Who? Me? Nah I guess the quality of the video makes it look black but I am just a green belt in the video. Fat? Well...yes...I had injured both my knees & ankles while serving in the military overseas so I could not do many things as I use to. Since I could not run at all like when I was an infantry soldier the weight just packed on. I actually weighed 370 lbs at my heaviest and am currently weighing in at 284 lbs. I use to do 2 miles in 15 minutes at best before my injuries.

  • I did this 3 times on friday over 8 people :D but on the fourth time of doing it i broke my left collar bone and it sure does hurt now D: pain killers help though :) nice video dude but should show people how to jump distance

  • I guess I would show people how to jump distance...but I could never do that. This dive roll I only use if I have to either get out of the line of fire and duck behind something, use to close the gap between me and an assailant, or to pick up a weapon off the ground to use in the fight, like a knife, stick or gun. Besides...I weigh too much to make any good distance...lol. Take care of your injury and thanks for your comments.

  • Start off with doing forward rolls first. Once you perfect that, slowly increase the distance you go forward when doing the forward roll until you start jumping forward as a dive. Form is important because you sure don't want to do a headplant into the ground and break your kneck. I hope this helps. Thank you for viewing my vids.

  • i practice parkour and im pretty good at a lot of different things in parkour (tricks, vaults, rolls) and the way we do i is rolling on your shoulder, not over your head how do you do it?

  • Parkour huh? Wow now that is amazing stuff. If you watch the dive roll closely in slow motion you will see that it may look like I am going over my head but there is a slight turn of the body so I do go on a diagonal from shoulder to hip...but just a little. I am more concerned with protecting my head & kneck first, then I worry about my fall. So you can see it is not too much different to what you already do. Thanks for viewing my vids.

  • o ya i do see it and its pretty smart to be concerned about your head and neck but basically me and most people i see that do parkour practice it so much that it becomes and instinct to do a roll and that it doesnt hurt so we can just focus on our landing

  • Imagine if that guy did a flip fall on your melon. Probably get a stress fracture. Don't get on this guys bad side. I'm gonna practice the dive roll for basic training it will be handy lol.

  • You are joining the military? Good Luck. I am an Army Vet so I know what you will be going through. This dive roll does help if you know how to use it to pick up knives, firearms, or even batons to use to defend yourself. Don't worry...the military will teach you how to roll. Thanks for the funny comments and come home safe and thanks for your choice to protect our country.

  • good flipfall..!!

  • I saw some of the videos of yours and a comment coming from you, is a great compliment. Thanks. Oh yeah your vids were pretty awesome.

  • you are probably way better than me at many things but one note:

when doing your dive roll, I noticed your right leg hits the ground rather hard, followed by your left. Try and tuck as you finish the roll so you finish with the platforms of your feet on the ground, in stead of your ankles. this makes it easier to continue the roll and stand up quickly afterwards.

loved the flip falls though! good job

  • Thanks for the comments. Point taken. I will do my best next time to tuck more when doing a dive roll. Merry Christmas!

  • Out of interest. Whats the advantage of doing that say in a fight?

  • Hmm maybe when you get thrown, trying to kick someone, or when you lose balance

  • Yea I suppose, like how to brace urself incase it happens.

  • Very good insight on this technique...are you a martial artist as well? The technique can be used as a flying axe kick. Only difference would be to leave your right leg straight as you come over for a leg strike to a downed opponent. Of course hitting a man when he is down should only be done when no other option remains and not as means of satisfaction. Thanks again for viewing my vids.

  • Thanks for the reply "thedayisnotlost" to his question. So sorry for such a late reply. This technique is for falling practice. In the event that your balance is taken and there is no stopping the throw, you have the ability to control how and where you land. For example if someone gets you in a hip throw, his intent is to slam you infront of him. Instead of fighting the throw turn away and do this technique to fall behind him instead of infront of him where you still can defend yourself.

  • Thanks for replying man.

  • Cool. Good technique :)

  • Thank you for you positive comment. God Bless.

  • Not bad

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • PLEASE post a tutorial on the roll. I've been trying to teach myself in my living room, but it's scary to dive head first at the ground.

  • I guess I could do that...but until then...unless your living room has a good padded floor...don't practice on hard surfaces just yet. You have to first build the confidence to trust your body and the technique before doing the dive roll. If you have any martial arts mats or any other type of padding you could use it will help you learn even more better with less injury to your body. I'll try and put that tuturial together as soon as I can...thanks for viewing my video...plse see other vids.

  • I've tried in my back yard, but it seems even harder with the grass.I have little to none martial arts experience, except for Karate about 10 years ago. I'll look for some makeshift padding. Thanks!

  • you need to learn how to do basic breakfalls first, get really good until its painless on concrete (or close), then start moving up to dive rolls.

  • Hm... That might work... I can sort of do it on grass now, but not very high or far.

  • yeah you should work on your roll first, after that you pretty much make peace with the ground. by that i mean you arent afraid to fall at almost any angle. i can just jump in the air and pretend i was diving in water. my reflex would just make me roll. painlessly.

  • Try learning a Parkour roll- they are similar

  • I know how to parkour roll... This is the reason why I want to learn this lol
