Everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over this "Greek" yogurt thing. If you would actually take the time to read the article they state that the Owner of the company would've called the yogurt Turkish, but yogurt had already been created in this niche in the US under the category of Greek yogurt. It's simply a matter of competition people.
"Chobani" What a scam on so many levels!!! Yogurt like Baklava has nothing to do with anything Greek! Yogurt comes from the Turkish word yogurmak, to manually work or thicken...Coban is Turkish word for shepard and the owners of this company are from Turkey as is the master yogurt maker as listed on their site..I guess the reason they call it "Greek Yogurt" is because the owners are Kurds with Turkish names and are manifesting their anti-Turkish political backlash!
@Cellat1071 We're sorry you feel that way! The founder of our company is indeed Turkish, and "Greek" simply refers to the origin of the centuries-old straining technique we use. No hidden meanings here! Just plain, nothing but good yogurt. Feel free to email us at fans@chobani.com if you have any further, direct questions. Thanks!
@ChobaniYogurt Thanks for reply, unfortunately no feelings involved, just facts that lead to a major cultural misrepresentation of false information to the public. There is nothing Greek in origin of yogurt further there is absolutely no nothing Greek in relation to the word Coban the root of your corporate name. The centuries old straining technique that you refer to is actually called yogmak or yogurmak from the Turkish word to strain learned by the Greeks under 5 centuries of Ottoman rule.
@ChobaniYogurt It is even more humorous that the head master yogurt maker of your company is Mustafa Dogan...not greek ..but, yes, A TURK...why would you have a Turk make Greek giaourti?
My question is for your CEO, if he has the courage to answer is? Did he really not have the courage to be original and honest to the American public in misrepresenting this product?
@Cellat1071 You're just blubbering about some senseless bullshit. They just make yogurt, they are creating much needed jobs in the area, and I doubt no one really gives a crap where the owners are from. Turks making Greek yogurt isn't a legal issue being that it's an alternative name for STRAINED YOGURT...
@flybikes90 Get lost you annoying idiot! Number of jobs would be same if it were called Turkish yogurt, and thousands care about a bitch who sells out a nation with its national product originated by his own people naming for falsely for advertising purposes. Greeks didnt know what hell strained yogurt was or half of the food they eat now prior to Ottoman Turks..So shut the fuck up and go troll YouTube for even comments to annoy someone esle.
@flybikes90 There is nothing Greek about yogurt, strained or unstrained! Greeks need to stop stealing other peoples things and trying sell it off as if they originated it.They run around fucking patenting shit thats not theirs trying to lay a legal claim to it. They hate Turks so they steal from us.
@ChobaniYogurt Even the Greek word for yogurt, "γιαούρτι "is written phonetically as "giaoúrti" which is pronounce ya'or'ti in Greek....sounds a lot like the Turkish word "yogurt",,,which looks exactly like the American English word "Yogurt" doesnt it?? Any way you slice it the word Greek on you box has nothing to do with yogurt and is a falsification of fact, a misrepresentation...you have legal vulnarability here!
I drive by the Chobani plant several times a week, and it looks nothing like the plant in this video. In fact, I'm pretty sure it only says AgroFarma on the side of the building, and doesn't have any indication that it makes Chobani...

That is indeed our plant- promise! The milk silo says Chobani, as pictured, but you're right- the front of our plant says Agro Farma.

@zakrevskya
Strange. I just drove by the plant and this is exactly what it looks like (minus the "Chobani" sign).
Are you sure you're driving past the plant in South Edmeston and not the corporate campus in Norwich?
