how do i load backtrack? how did you open it?

The method that gives you the best performace, is putting the BT3 or BT4 folder from the disk onto the root directory of your drive. if you're using windows, this is usually your c: drive. Make sure you actually burn the image to the disk..not just put the iso on the disk. Put it in your optical drive and set the bios to boot from cd. You can also boot from a USB drive if you know how to do that and your board supports it.

hay im having some trouble when i put in iwconfig i only see lo and eth0 dose this mean that my wifi card dosen't show up or dose it mean that i need a wifi adapter not a wifi card

You're wifi card is probably not compatible. either try to find the drivers, try using the latest version of Backtrack, or get a cheap little wifi adapter.

i dont have ath0 but wlan0, and i dont have wifi but wmaster0, and my mode is in managed......ioctl(SIOCSIFFLAG­S) failed after i do anythig....please help me

I've only seen ath0 on laptop wireless adapters. just replace all the wifi0 and ath0 with Wlan0 or whatever your wireless adapter shows up as.

Wow sry for the delay. Just exchange the "ath0" and "wifi0" with whatever your adapter is showing up as...you can check what they are with iwconfig

eth0 and eth1 are wired connections usually. You want wireless, so wifi0 wmaster0....etc w/e you have.

WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy. Its and old (but still commonly used) algorithm used to secure 802.11 wireless networks
