Easier way to learn skills is ctrl+skill key so for example ctrl+q.

one I always noticed when binding keys to the mouse was that I was always slower in triggering them. Not sure why that is, but tapping alt+w or whatever was just faster for me than clicking the side mouse button. Does that happen to anyone else?

I'm a league of legends player I just got invited into dota 2 beta and was just wondering if there was a way to make it so that you can set skills to smartcast? Like have skills casted right away wherever your mouse is pointed on without having to left click.

when you started playing dota warkeys have been already popular, so I don't really know why you remembered all the skills instead of using hotkeys ;)

I use QWER as I am too use now from playing HoN after Dota ^^

Then I use 123456 for the Items, and I use F2,F3,F4 so on for the controll group.

And I use F1 for the Courier ^^ faster so i feel... Hero Select G and Hero Center X2g

There's no need for the Ability learn key Purge, holding CTRL while pressing the ability's hotkey levels up the ability, it works extremely fast. For me at least.

It's an interesting thing... you're a competitive gamer. I'd think people like you would realize that, despite a period of frustrating re-learning, the QWER hotkey setup is miles more efficient than the crab-girl hotkey orientations of many legacy setups. Do it, my man. It's gonna suck a dick for a bit, but it's a matter of fractions of seconds that you can gain by minimizing the distance between your hotkeys.

I still playing dota 1 , and i got a hotkey program and is Q W E R spells and for item's i use only this first two one's F and G for blink and stuff

And every here is like Q W E R and the courier the same Q W E R for the first spells.

It's simple and yeah it's fast.

Having the same hotkeys for every hero feels very weird to me. That was one of the reasons I quit HoN pretty fast and it is the reason why I will use Legacy hotkeys in Dota 2.

2 questions though: What are the "Control Group Tab" and "Hold Position" hotkeys used for?

@MordecaiWalfish Hold position will tell your hero to hold its position he/she will do nothing but stand there if you give them this command control group tab is well here is a example Im playing chen and i control 3 creeps name 1,2 and 3 if i push what ever key control group tab is binded to it will select creep 1 if i press it again it will select creep 2 then 3 then my hero if you push it again it will select creep 1 see what im saying? hope this help

For the short time I played HoN QWER messed up my performance considerably. It confused me all the time. It got a little better after I set it to Earthshakers hotkeys except for R for the third skill, so basicly Clockwerks hotkeys with a twist.

Regarding the hero thing, you have to set a hero select hotkey I have mine as 'C', then the hero center thing means whatever that hotkey you set as hero select will center if you double tap it (mine shows up as X2- C)

@Horatiification u can change the key from every hero go to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota\cfg now open the dotakeys file with your editor then search for the hero keys "AbilityPrimary1" { "Key" "R" } "AbilityPrimary2" { "Key" "B" } "AbilityPrimary3" { "Key" "D" } "AbilitySecondary1" { "Key" "" } "AbilitySecondary2" { "Key" "" } "AbilityUltimate" { "Key" "V"} and there you can change keys if you want to change the ulti key delte V and write E or something else.

Moving camera with keyboard feels really nice! I use tfgh buttons for this. And there is another dozen of easily accessed keys around. I also binded three courier actions (grab, fetch, speedboost) to a single button for convenience.

I use my G for glyph. And regarding leveling up ability, you can use Ctrl+skill hotkey to level them. Sticky is useful to buy TP scroll really fast at side shop for escaping or juking.

@Kevin61973 I dont know how many buttons are on your mouse or how it's set up, but if windows recognizes them, you will be able to bind them in the dota2 options.

If for some reason this is not working you can always use Autohotkey and that may work for you.

@MrKrawlin If you look in the video under the button hotkey squares, there are small rectangles called "subtitles" those are used to toggle auto casts. Default are alt+q alt+w alt+e... etc.

Setting a hotkey there will then autocast whichever ability it is under(I personally wish you could set all autocasts to the same button, like alt+r or something like that).

great guide, although to new players as you mentioned its not a good layout. I personally put my hero select on F1, and courier on F2, the rest of the control groups on F3 and so on, so I can place items on the 12345 keys. I also use my Space bar for the top left item, so i can use tangos and blink dagger easily. I'm new to dota but the hotkey customization is really important imo since numpad default for items is really hard.

chuffsoner is right, all you need to do is to reconfigure Hero Select as "Hero Center" is 2 TIMES the hotkey to "Hero Select" at around the 9:40 mark.

On a sidenote, I play QWER and if you Control + QWER you level up the respective skill. So, in your level 6 tower dive example, it's just Control + Ult key. Dunno if it works for legacy or would be good with your hand position, but works for me easily. (Only O->U for stat gains. Might change to Y->U on good suggestion).

like at btm rune there's probably 4/5 famous spots to ward to have vision of the rune

i find it hard to decide on choosing which spot to ward at many times.

cause im hoping it would do more rather than just to have vision of the rune

Hey Purge what you could do instead of binding your hero to 1 every time is bind "Hero Select" to 1, this would have exactly the same effect without having to remember to bind your hero.
