IF your having problems with importing fraps into vegas make sure you have fraps installed on the same computer.

  • OMG~~ ive watched TONS of vids on how to fix this and ur the only one who has done it

    Thank u so much <3

  • ugghh, why did sony make vegas so complicated. when i had vegas 4.0 movie studio or watever its called, my avi's worked so fine & now their all ugly & look like digital cable .

  • THANK YOU! OH GOD, THANK YOU! I've been spending weeks watching countless videos telling me to install this and that. In the end all it took was you telling me to check the "Use MS DV Codecs" box. XD

    Thank you again!! :D

  • Thank u it really worked ..

  • what if it tells you that you need flash/sorenson and the status is undetermined?

  • what if it tells you that you need flash/sorenson and the status is undetermined?

  • IN vegas 8, I converted my files to mpg with Any Video Converter, It works pretty well :)

  • still not working?

  • why does sony have to be such assholes??? i swear they deserve to be pirated whats so hard trying to make a program use avi....

  • doesnt work..... both ways..

  • i have 2 codecs showed by g-spot butt still doesn't work. what else can i do?

  • This shit only happened right after I downloaded and installed google chrome. In addition, When I switched back to IE8, I lost my youtube comment visibility. I love my Vegas software but now, it is rendered useless. My camera output file is .avi and altho moviemaker can handle the conversion (wmv) file, I am limited in the special effects that I can use. I tried restoring the system but it would not fix the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated but I've tried more than a few...

  • All my avi files that I uploaded in Gspot say I have the right codecs installed. I have Vegas set to read 3rd party codec and I still can't get video. What the hell is wrong!? I have vegas 9 pro.

  • god, nothing works for me. not even the name change.

  • I got sony vegas 9, and windows 7, but avi files only show me the picture, i cant watch at all and make video, please help me, i tried for days and just wanna cry cause it seems imposible x3 please help!

  • @xLightGuardian i have exacly the same problem :S vegas 9 windows 7 64 bits

been searching forever but nothing works :( and converting the videos make them look like crap

  • for those who cant get it working on windows7 64bit,you can try downloading ffdshow and Haali_Matroska_Splitter....install it and it should work

  • @boyman301 thx for te effort but i just figured out the prob :P gspot told me i needed a fraps codec so i installed fraps and t works :D

  • @boyman301 Thanks dude! That really worked. :D

  • thank you very much

  • Sorry, I use Vegas 7 and have not worked with later versions. Did you guys try changing the .avi ending to .mpg ? Make a copy of your video (so you can keep your original video intact) and try changing the ending. 1st you need to tell Windows to show the extension of the file (.avi, .mpg, .mp4). Go to START > Control Panel > Folder Options > View Start> UNcheck box that says "Hide Extensions for File Types" > Apply. Now, rename the ending/extension as instructed at the end of this video.

  • @Chikes33 Thanks for the great video! But the "Use Microsoft DV codecs" check box in my general tab is no where to be found. I even went through the help menu of the general tab where it explains what every check box does. It's not in there. I'm using Vegas Pro 9. Is there anything I can do?

  • @KToews93 I got the same problem, im freaking out on this shit! help plz!

  • ok, I downloaded this k-lite mega codec pack a while ago and it didn't work so I did what it said in this video and it said I already had the codec needed for my AVI but when I import the file to Vegas pro 9 the audio works but the screen for the video is completely black, just like it was before I did any of this. Should I try some other software or is my comp just screwed up?

  • sony vegas pro 9 isnt working on windows 7, i try to import .avi files, no go why?

  • i dont have microsoft dv codecs on vegas to check it :(

  • @korgpadude me too

  • I love you. Thankyou so much, this saves me so much trouble!

  • Thanks a tons! :D...

  • thanks dude helped me a lot

  • @Chikes33

I cannot upload my MP4 files onto Vegas that were recoreded from my iPod Nano. I first took the file off of the iPod folder and into the "My Pictures" folder.

I've even played the video on "VLC" and "Media Player Classic" (codec finder) and still cannot upload the video (MP4) to Vegas,

    Anyone, please help.

  • I did it but it says that it's already installed.

    =[

    UGH! I hate this.

  • mine alll say there already isntalled to!! HELP!!!

  • THANKYOU

  • omg! omg! omg! omg! thank you so much!!!!!!! :'( I ALMOST CRIED 7 HOURS FOR A 20 SECOND INTRO!! and i couldint find it now after this video!! i got it!! i LOVE U!

  • When I import it now, instead of just audio showing, a red circle with a line through it thing pops up

  • please steps :( i download it but i cant use it

  • SAME HERE!?!

It doesn't work because its in zip?

  • If you have attempted everything, try this. CHANGE the .avi file to .mpg file. EXAMPLE: Right mouse click over the file > LEFT click on Rename > erase "My video name.avi" and type "My video name.mpg". Now try importing the file as an .mpg. Works on some files. Hope it works for you.

  • @Chikes33 I tried it but when I putted the file on sony vegas it closed itself

  • @Chikes33 DOESNT WORK!!!

  • mine says it is MP42, do you know of a good codec 4 that and how 2 use it bc i cant find 1

  • Odd thing happened. I have this file and I thought that I diden't have the codec so I got the thing above, and it said that I already had the codec, and when I import the video file it just shows up as a audio file and there is no video there. Could someone help me?

  • same with me!!!!

  • I don't have this option in Vegas 9.0

This is really annoying :( avi files were working fine in vegas 6.0, but I decided to upgrade because 6.0 was very slow.

  • Thank you ...

  • Download SUPER. It's a very good program. With this program you can convert an AVI file to any other file you wanted. I prefer MPG. Sony Vegas will accept MPG files without any problem. Than you can start editing!

  • hey i just downloaded super but its looks too difficult to use!! i cant seem to figure out how to convert avi to mpg...can you help me out?! thnks!

  • Okies thank you! =D

  • I have a problem too D= before Sony was able to read my avi file now it says media offline T_T I did what your video said and GSpot says it's fine =( I don't get it X_X help please T_T

  • "Media Offline" sometimes means that your original file was moved - did you move your file to another folder? If you have not moved your file, it can also mean that your computer is taking longer to access the file.

  • @Mikiasie I have the same problem! Did you ever learn how to fix it?

  • my problem is that Vegas will only see the video, no audio, even if Vegas rendered it WITH audio. I can't figure this one out, so i don't think the FourCC program fix will help out here. If you know how to fix this lemme know please

  • So Vegas can render it WITH audio??? wow, .. never have heard of your problem. TRY THIS: If Vegas sees the audio, render your project as MP3, then re-import the fresh MP3 back into Vegas and align it with your video, mute original audio, then RENDER as VIDEO. Hope it helps.

  • @Chikes33 i have the problem: sound, but no picture :(

  • or you can download the combined community codec pack (cccp). its free and it worked for me (:

  • Where's download the Use Microsoft DV codecs?

  • jus tgoogle it

  • "Microsoft DV codecs" is NOT something you download - it is a setting under the "options" tab in Vegas. So, open Vegas, go to the OPTIONS tab and click on PREFERENCES, then click on "GENERAL" tab, then check "Use Microsoft DV codecs". This tells Vegas to actually USE DV codecs.

  • I'm sick to death of the crap editing programs that release every whizz bang movie effect and filter under the sun but can't be assed including basic codecs in their packages. If it's avi, mp4 or mkv forget Vegas!!! I guess it's true what they say that the big editing software companies are conspiring with the New World Order to make media harder to access manipulate and share as the NWO seeks to implement NET 2 a new controlled restricted internet, to control information.

  • what if it says ready? Cuz when it searched it said ready on the side.

  • what if when I get to were it shows the name the status says they are installed but Its on a avi file that only gives me audio when I put it in SV.

  • Sometimes the only alternative is to convert your video to another format.

Youtube has some suggestions for programs that will convert: simply enter "Free Video converter".

  • it plays in media player BUT still same problem in Sony Vegas.. video won't load. in fact I even get the message "an exception has occurred" please help

  • OMG thx man that worked !

  • how do you restart vegas?

  • you turn exit out of it then open it up again. ^^

  • Thanks yo, turns out i had the codec installed, it just wasnt set to be used in vegas

  • i have the same thing but how do i "set it" so AVI could be used in vegas ?

  • how did u change it to be set in Sony Vegas

  • it works but my videos are really blurry why is that, i did everything write but my videos are blurry

  • Comment removed

  • thank you. so much.

  • Thanks dude Your A life Saver ! .

    :) subbed u ledge

  • i have a problem!

sometimes i got only the video not the sound what i need then? :D

    please reply!

  • If it's AVI. dont know, if it's .mpeg you need codecs, i have avi with full audio and video, mpge with only video tou,

DOWNLOAD THE NIMO CODEC PACK AND IT WILL SOLVE IT FOR AVI.

  • I found a different solution...

I had a dozen or more codecs installed and the solution for me was to click the "ignore third party DV codecs" shown under Prefecence/general tab.

  • i dont understand how 2 use the programme can u pls help me i have 2 make avi files work i just have 2 :(

  • Just click on the link to go to G-Spot page. There, you will find instructions how to use it. Basically, 1.)Open the program, 2.)Drag and drop your avi file, 3.)See what codec G-Spot tells you that you need, 4.) Search for the codec on Google, download and install the codec.

If that doesn't work, you may consider converting your avi to mpeg.

  • ITS CALLED G SPOT?!

    LOL????

  • :PPPPPPP

  • Thanks for this buddy.

  • Could you please help me?

I'm having this problem: when i import an avi file into vegas, it shows up blurry and pixelated...

this only happens to certain avi files...

i would be very grateful if you could help me, thank you...

  • Did you run the file through G-Spot?

Did G-Spot provide you with the name of a codec?

Have you attempted playing the avi file in a media player? if so, does the file also show blurry and pixelated in the media player?

  • The codec is DX50.

I tried to change it with AviC, but it has the same problem...

When I play it with any media player it works fine...

  • Google "DX50".

I came up with at least 2 links to download a codec for DX50. I'm not sure what you mean by "I tried to change it with AviC". Unfortunately, sometimes the only thing left to do is convert the file to another format e.g., AVI to MPEG (lots of free converters out there on the web).

  • Thank you very much for your kind help!

(That AviC is some program that can change an avi file's codec, but it doesn't always work)

    Thanks once again!

  • Thank you so much i just had to apply it that was all xD

  • I tried it with an *avi file that doesn't have sound on Vegas... but it tells me the codec is ok... what else can be the problem? thanks BTW!

  • the way i do it, is import the file into wmm, then publish it to wmv. (it works really well, but the quality does suffer a bit =/)

  • Sorry but i have a question ...

My codecs are already installed but Vegas is still not opening AVI ! so what can i do ?

please i need an answer T-T

  • incredibly helpful. Gspot is an awesome program. thank you.

  • My avi file doesn't have a codec but it still won't play on Vegas.

  • thank you very much for the info. Though I need the codec "S-Mpeg4 version 2" and I can't find it. Either it's a fake one, or it doesn't work... Please can you help me?

  • thats what i need too, and ive searched around the internet everywhere, and can't find it :(

  • Sorry, I kinda solved the problem but I don't know how bcz I did lots of things that people told me. Though I still can't import another kind of avi on my SonyVegas. I odn't know what to do. Is there a converter that ACTUALLY works?

  • i downloaded the program gspot and it says i have all codecs but when i put it on vegas all i can see or hear is the audio.

  • I've ran into that same problem with some AVI files - and am sorry to say that the only solution I've found is to convert the AVI file to MPG to make it work with Vegas.

  • b4 i download this, do you have windows XP, cause so do i, and i wan2 know if it works on XP

  • Yes, ... I use Windows XP and it works fine.

PLEASE BE ADVISED OF 2 THINGS:

    1. Run your avi file through G-Spot several times - it may give you video codecs first then audio codecs.

    2. New avi codecs are made all the time and G-Spot may not recognize the very new ones.

Good luck. Hope it works for you as it has worked for many.

  • what program do you recommend for converting?

  • the program works but telling me that i have all the codecs installed but sony vegas dont work! =( help? =)

  • does it work for u know? getting the vid onto vegas?

  • doesnt work....

  • The program works just fine.

Can you be more specific about what exactly didn't work?

Did Gspot not give you the name of the missing codec(s)?

Or did you install a codec that didn't work?

  • g spot didnt give me the name of the codec i need

  • It depends what version of Windows.I've got Vista, and the last codec I tried didn't work,I'll try yours.

  • Wow that works!!!!!!!!!!Thank u sooooooo much!!!

  • it said i have everything but it sitll doesn't work...

  • the file is bad

  • Just downloaded the ZIP file and it works.

NOTE: It is a ZIP file so you will need a program to open ZIP files such as WinZip.

Please try again and thank you for watching.

  • Dude it worked your the best ever..XD

  • hi do u know that if u uninstall all ur divx codecs.....it actually does work!

  • Wow lol vinchenz7 saying to someoneelse your the ebst ever Lol just jokin Btw it worked :) Awesome dude and vince ifu wouldnt mind can u make more tutorials? Like for advanced effects and masking or somin i can mask and do effects but after seeing your amvs i am a nnob :l Lol i made this account for cuz itachikurursaki is spelt wrong :p itachikurosaki

  • For those people who still has this problem, please check out my video and see if that helps instead.

  • fucking thank you dude didn't even need to download anything just check that codecs thing something that pissed me off so much just required a few clicks

  • Somebody do it for vegas 8!

  • i downloaded the codecs, i checked the 'use microsoft dv codec', i restarted sony vegas but my video still just has the sound

    pleaseeee help me,

  • YES!

    thank you sososo much.

i can't believe it actually worked.

you don't know how grateful i am. :)

i was getting so frustrated and...well, thank you. :)

    you made my day.

  • Sorry it didn't work for you.

You can always just convert your AVI file to another format (mpeg, etc).

Google search "Total Video Converter". There are several free versions out on the web.

  • It doesn't work =(

    I'm desperate...

  • Why did they name it that?

  • Thanks for the help, now I can use the AVI files that I had without having to go through the hassle of finding a programme to convert them to accepted files.

  • Yeah Video work for me no sound=(

  • SUGGESTION:

Since GSpot has space to show only ONE missing codec, you may want to have GSpot re-analyze the avi file. Since you already installed the codec needed for video, GSpot may yield another missing codec that will fix the audio.

  • should i restrat when installed the codec

  • dude plz help me

the results for my avi file said tht the codecs were installed but even after i checked "use microsoft dv codecs" on vegas, my vid still wont play=[

    any suggestions?

  • Someone had a similar situation. Here was my suggestion;

Some codecs of the same name get updated, then someone rips a video using the updated codec which doesn't play with your older version of the codec.

So, even if GSpot says you have the codec installed, do a web search of that codec anyway and install the codec you find on the web. If there are different versions of the same codec, intall the latest version.

  • Thanks Man! Worked like a charm! Nice Tip! Thanks

  • but i cant still in put the video into the vegas only the audio is comming in

my codec is mpeg and GSpot says that it is installed.

  • Make sure you checked "Use Microsoft DV codecs".

  • Glad it worked for your video.

Sorry, I don't have links to "audio codecs".

    SUGGESTION:

Since GSpot has space to show only ONE missing codec, you may want to have GSpot re-analyze the avi file. Since you already installed the codec needed for video, GSpot may yield another missing codec that will fix the audio.

  • Awesome bro it works!!! Having the original downloaded avi file is better than to re-convert it down and it aint as great as the original, many thanks bro!!!

  • Awesome worked for my video but no sound :( do you have links to sound codecs or maybe im missing something? Cheers
