So, I was riding on 5160 the other day on the 17 headed to Fresh Meadows because my friend was going all out for a recently released movie on DVD and the first thing that comes into my mind as the bus takes off, "This bus sounds funny" and as I see this video it's kind of like the same sound. Very nice.
Wow that is a great sound most of our DDOT Detroit Department of Transportation RTS Coaches have this sound is sad no company picked up the RTS because to me thats what big city transportation should be but we do have the 2001-2002 Nova Bus RTS those were the last great buses we got our new New Fyler D40LF's are quiet and dont gain my attention at all thre must be better buses for transit agencies to purchase
Ok. I see what you're sayin'. Unfortunately, though, there's no hope. The era of REAL buses is over for the most part. There aren't really many options now either with the ADA insisting that buses be compliant for the disabled, i.e., low floors and the EPA insisting on ever-greener tech. There is no future for hardcore buses anymore. Here in NYC, they're scrapping perfectly decent TMC RTS's for money. It's very sad actually.
@StopRequested I wanted to give you 10 thumbs up but I you tube would only allow me one!. I saw some videos of the Eastchester Yard and OMG!!...near brand new TMC RTS's from Jamaica Bus fleet going to the grave yard!! Not to mention MCI Classics that look as if they were given fresh MTA color paint jobs then all of a sudden thrown into the scrap pile!. I'm only 27 man but I think these are great driver training and emergency buses to keep on hand if we really need them!!
The sound pressure density and pitch of these S50 RTS exhausts is striking, along with the unique overlays that the V-731 give it. I really can't stop listening to RTS's with this sort of raw sound. Please keep up with this kind of work!

Man all this time I thought me and my bro liked the way buses sound!! I agree with Yankee5004 those buses sound so cool! The 5thousands sound better then the 8 and 9thousands bcuz the motors r louder. I remember the first time I heard them, I fell in love with the sound
